Long time no See: disqualified Singapore jockey back a winner Down Under

Returning from disqualification, former Singapore-based jockey Joseph See is back riding on the Western Australia provincial track circuit.

Nearly two and a half years after being disqualified in Singapore, disgraced jockey Joseph See made a winning return in the saddle in Australia over the weekend.

See received an 18-month ban and a $25,000 fine over his handling of Smoke And Mirrors in Race 8 on August 22, 2021.

Despite pleading not guilty to failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that Smoke And Mirrors was given a full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing, stewards deemed otherwise.

It’s not the first (or second) time See has been disqualified. See copped a second lengthy one-year ban for a handling charge (first one was a similar one-year disqualification aboard Look At Me in 2012) aboard a horse called Perfect Challenger in a race in November 2015.

After serving his time following his third disqualification, See has been plying his trade around the provincial tracks of Western Australia since late November last year.

However, the starting prices of See’s mounts suggest that support is few and far between, with only two out of 31 rides starting in single digits.

A turn of luck for See occurred on Saturday at Geraldton, where he guided the 25/1 outsider Navy Sun to victory in a $24,000 Class 1 Handicap over 1600m.
