RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: SCOTTSVILLE@2026.08.23
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R140,000, 12:07GMT+2
Race Summary: BARRY’S BOY has run three promising races on the poly since arriving in KZN. He came from a long way back when just failing to catch pacemaker Camogie last time out and the switch to turf could see him go one better. ENJOY THE RIDE was staying on doggedly behind Camogie and with only a neck separating him from Barry’s Boy, it should be close again. KIARTAY was running on late over course and distance last start and may now be coming to hand. ANNUSHKA’S PRIDE is a well-bred first timer up from the Eastern Cape and may be worth following in the betting.
Selections: #6 BARRY’S BOY, #7 ENJOY THE RIDE, #12 KIARTAY, #1 ANNUSHKA’S LIGHT
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R125,000, 12:45GMT+2
Race Summary: Highveld visitor SISTERSHIP is a late starting four-year-old but has shown up well in her two starts to date. She should run well in a wide open contest. SECRET AMBITION has not been far back in her two starts to date and the form of her last outing has not been too bad. She looks to be the pick of Mike Miller’s runners. NEW CHAPTER ran below expectations on debut but raced very green. The experience should hold her in good stead. MAD ABOUT YOU started at long odds over course and distance on debut and was not far back. Expect good improvement form MJ Odendaal’s filly.
Selections: #3 SISTERSHIP, #10 SECRET AMBITION, #13 NEW CHAPTER, #6 MAD ABOUT YOU
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R125,000, 13:20GMT+2
Race Summary: PERIWINKLE made a smart start to her career over mile finishing a good third behind Hazel Green. Given that she is likely to come on a length or two from that outing she looks the part in what is potentially a tricky maiden. PINK SKIES was most disappointing last time out after two promising previous effort. If one ignores that run, she must have a good winning chance. LADY JEROME was not far back last time out and the step up in trip should suit. VIVIEN is a well-bred first timer out of the Sean Tarry yard and one to watch in the betting.
Selections: #6 PERIWINKLE, #4 PINK SKIES, #3 LADY JEROME, #5 VIVIEN
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R125,000, 13:55GMT+2
Race Summary: LOVESCOMESKNOCKING is a lightly raced four-year-old and her best showing has been over course and distance when beaten less than a length at long odds. She goes well for this rider and she should be right there. PREDATOR’S CROWN has run three promising races to date, close-up in all three. She steps up to what could prove a more suitable trip. TEARS OF THE SUN has gone well over course and distance and rates a strong chance. CELTIC MOON has had two sprints and should much prefer this trip. One to watch in the betting.
Selections: #5 LOVECOMESKNOCKING, #4 PREDATOR’S CROWN, #1 CELTIC MOON, #2 TEARS OF THE SUN
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 5, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R175,000, 14:30GMT+2
Race Summary: COWBOY COUNTRY landed the coup when winning over course and distance last time put. Lightly raced, he showed early that he was a horse with ability and although taking on stronger he can follow up. Mike Miller has two lively runners in LICENCE TO THRILL and the filly INFINITY EDGE. Licence To Thrill is something of a Scottsville specialist. He is consistent and should put in another good shift. SOHO STAR shoulders top weight and is seldom far back. He goes very well over course and distance and should feature prominently. MASTER JOSH has done moat of his recent racing on the poly. He may prefer it a furlong shorter but is the likely pacemaker and could surprise all.
Selections: #5 COWBOY COUNTRY, #2 LICENCE TO THRILL, #7 SOHO STAR, #1 MASTER JOSH
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 6, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R145,000, 15:05GMT+2
Race Summary: Most competitive handicap. FIRE CHIEF got a hefty rating after finishing a close-up seventh in a feature. He does look promising and can confirm the handicappers rating. SCOTS WAE HAE was a recent maiden winner but sows some promise. He takes on much stronger but looks capable of making the step up. AZZURRI found Cowboy Country too strong last time out and just how Cowboy Country fares in race five could be a good indicator of his chances. SON OF RAFEEF is useful on his day and gets first time blinkers which could bring out the best. TOMMY ATKINS was a beaten favourite first run out of the maidens in useful company but he returns from a lengthy lay-off. He is down from the Highveld and has only had three starts so is one to watch.
Selections: #10 FIRE CHIEF, #6 SCOTS WAE HAE, #7 AZZURRI, #9 SON OF RAFEEF
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 7, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R175,000, 15:40GMT+2
Race Summary: UZWANO has been knocking at the door for some time now. Gavin Lerena knows him well and from a good draw he should have the run of the race. BEYOND ALL DOUBT is lightly raced but has only once been out of the money in five outings. The step up in trip should suit and he is still improving. CITY OF LOVE steps up to a mile for the first time. His sprint form is useful and if he stays the trip he will be a strong contender. GRAND OCCASION is way better than her last start. She has won over course and distance and has a handy galloping weight.
Selections: #2 UZWANO, #4 BEYOND ALL DOUBT, #8 CITY OF LOVE, #5 GRAND OCCASION
HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 23.08.2026, Race 8, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R145,000, 16:15GMT+2
Race Summary: IDEAL SUMMER has been improving with each outing since being fitted with blinkers. Calvin Habib stays with the ride and from the best of the draw he should run a forward race. CHARLIE BUCKET has his first run for his new stable with Paddy Kruyer having returned to Cape Town. The gelding has won his last two in good style since being fitted with a compression mask and he can go in again. PRESSURE POINT (8) was not far behind Wiccan Warrior when first up out of the maidens. The form of that race has worked out and with a claiming apprentice up he could be the surprise package. MASTER BOMBER was runner-up to Charlie Bucket last time out and is now 1kg better off which should see him finish a little closer.
Selections: #1 IDEAL SUMMER, #7 CHARLIE BUCKET, #8 PRESSURE POINT, #9 MASTER BOMBER
Best Win: #5 Cowboy Country
Best Value Bet: #5 Lovecomesknocking
Best Longshot: #9 Son Of Rafeef
