Tuesday’s Hollywoodbets Kenilworth meeting features a competitive card, with reigning South African champion jockey Gavin Lerena making a rare Cape Town appearance to partner Give It Laldy in Race 8 over 1100m.
Give It Laldy looks one of the standout runners on the programme. The lightly raced sprinter has produced quality performances in all but one of his six starts, the exception coming over an unsuitable mile. His latest victory was particularly impressive as he quickened clear of Objet D’Art, who he meets again despite being 2kg worse off at the weights. With only five starts yielding two wins and two placings, Give It Laldy remains open to further improvement. Trainer Lucinda Woodruff’s stable is enjoying a rich vein of form, adding confidence to his prospects.
Objet D’Art remains a major danger. Like Give It Laldy, he is lightly raced and progressive, with little separating the pair on form. Craig Zackey takes the ride, while consistent performer Flying Finley also warrants respect after a string of strong sprint performances. Although rising in the ratings, he remains difficult to overlook.
Earlier on the card, Another Hero appears ready to break his maiden in Race 1 over 1200m. His form continues to improve, progressing from fourth to third and then second against useful opposition. He sets the benchmark among the raced runners.
Race 2 could fall to a first-time starter, although Catch Me has some experience and should improve. Well-bred newcomers Waiting Game, Bolero and Gentian are worth monitoring in the betting market.
Jack A Dandy caught the eye on debut and rates a strong chance in Race 3. He finished third behind Sing Forevermore despite still showing signs of inexperience and should improve significantly with that run behind him.
In Race 4, Miss Smiley looks capable of ending a frustrating maiden run. She was narrowly beaten over course and distance last time and may have found a suitable opportunity despite being a 10-start maiden.
Superhero is expected to be hard to beat in Race 5 over 1500m. He has finished runner-up at his last two starts and performed admirably against highly regarded opposition on his return from a lengthy absence. With improved fitness, he looks ready to score.
Woodruff could enjoy another success in Race 6 with Katsu, who drops sharply in class after competing against stronger company, including several Hollywoodbets Durban July contenders. Carrying top weight, he is aided by Mickaelle Michel’s 1.5kg claim.
Race 7 sees promising three-year-olds Backinthefastlane and Trip To Camelot clash over 1950m. Both won their maidens recently and look capable of progressing through the grades, with the extra distance expected to suit Trip To Camelot particularly well.
Overall, Give It Laldy, Superhero and Katsu look among the strongest prospects on an intriguing Kenilworth programme.
