ICHACHA finished 0.75 lengths adrift of that rival when 3rd on debut and should, with natural improvement, fight for victory. CHARIOT OF FIRE also acquitted himself well on debut and would’ve benefitted from that experience. HAIR TRIGGER (gelded) and well-bred Rafeef newcomer HEATHER’S BOY aren’t without chances.

THEATRE OF LIFE didn’t go unnoticed when 5th on debut as a 2yo against winners and she, too, could make her presence felt. FUTURE DATE and SHADOW OF THE MOON complete the shortlist.

Best-weighted SPECIAL CHARM and capable stayers GOOD COUNCIL and EXPLOSIVE BOND also have the means to play leading roles.

APACHE SON won his first start as a gelding over 1700m in a similar contest with this headgear fitted. He should also remain competitive under a 3-point penalty. CELTIC RUSH, FUSHIMI INARI and AMERICAN BISCUIT had excuses last time and they could pose a threat judged on their best form. Top-weight TWIN TURBO is also capable of getting involved.

Race Summary: Best-weighted DYCE is a Grade 1 winner over this distance so must be respected returning from a 15-week absence. Versatile WILLIAM ROBERTSON has been sidelined for 28 weeks but has a good record racing fresh and has Gavin Lerena in the irons. RULERSHIP is a 1000m specialist and his superior race fitness stands him in good stead. MOVER AND SHAKER, SHELDON and CLIFF HANGER are also in good form and physical condition so they ought to be competitive too. ANFIELDS ROCKET, himself a Grade 1 winner, is inconsistent although undeniably capable on his day so can’t be underestimated. Good race!

MAX THE MAGICIAN won a similar contest over 1400m on the Standside track last month but re-opposing BOB’S YOUR UNCLE, BRAVE VIKING and WARHAWK BOMBER are all better off at the weights. KING’S RANSOM wasn’t seen to best effect over 1600m last time but shouldn’t be written off reverting to this distance over which he is unbeaten in 2 starts. PRINCEOFGREEN isn’t without a chance either.

Race Summary: WE ARE THE LOGANS returned to form last time dropped to his current mark with a fast-finishing 3rd over 1200m. He was Grade 1 placed as a 2yo over 1600m so he’s good value to recapture the winning thread over the trip off an unchanged mark. Last-start winner TURBO POWER, whose 4-point penalty is negated by his rider’s 2.5kg allowance, course-and-distance suited RUN FOR COVER and rejuvenated COPPOLA could make life difficult for the top-weighted selection. Unexposed WOLF MOUNTAIN isn’t taken lightly either on his return from a rest during which he was gelded. THAMBI and TRIDENT KING can also earn.
