France Form Sheet – 5th February
Race Preview
R1 – PRIX JOSEPH COLLIGNON – 1500m (a7f 1/2) – TURF – Class 1 – Flat – EUR € 30,000
1. LOVERS DAY – Has proven most effective with Australian blinkers fitted, winning twice in four
starts with this headgear on (finished 3rd and 2nd in the other two). Won latest outing here on 23
January and should have a role to play
2. LAZZAT – Impressive winner on debut over course and distance on 21 January. Open to any
amount of improvement and could well remain unbeaten
3. SHOWPOWER – Runner-up on debut at Bordeaux-Le Bouscat in September but failed to confirm
that promise when finishing 9th on PSF back in November. One to note on his reappearance
4. INCA DREAM – Profitable colt, a winner of his last start, trained by respected Croatian handler
Zdeno Koplik. Outsider here
5. PRINCESSE SAPHIR – Won five consecutive starts, albeit at a lower level, from 21 September
to 14 December but had that streak ended when only 6th on PSF at Chantilly on 30 December.
Has a place chance on her return
6. MARIE MANCINI – Undefeated as a two-year-old, winning over 900m on debut in March and
over 1000m the following month. Ought to have benefitted from an encouraging 4th over course
and distance on her reappearance last month
Summary: LAZZAT (2) was an easy winner on debut over course and distance and, on the
evidence of that impressive introduction, should remain unbeaten with improvement expected
given the benefit of that experience. LOVERS DAY (1), who got back on track with a win of his own
over track and trip last time out, is most effective with headgear fitted (retained) and ought to fight
for victory. Fillies MARIE MANCINI (6), after an encouraging (4th) comeback, and PRINCESS
SAPHIR (5) have the means to stake a claim too.
SELECTIONS
LAZZAT (2) – LOVERS DAY (1) – MARIE MANCINI (6) – PRINCESSE SAPHIR (5)
R2 – PRIX DE GRASSE – 1500m (a7f 1/2) – TURF – Class 2 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 53,000
1. AMEDRAS – Consistent for the most part but unable to stand out in conditions races recently,
though has dropped to the same mark off which he won a Quinté+ at Vichy last year. Finished 6th
over 1300m on 27 January, dark horse
2. TIGRR – Enjoying a good run of form at present and recently finished 2nd on PSF over 1600m
at Cagnes-sur-Mer on 29 January. Competitive off this mark and ideally positioned in the starting
stalls, so should be a factor here
3. IN THE MOOD – Has never finished worse than 3rd in eight appearances in handicap races.
Finished 4th in a Fontainebleau Listed race over 1400m on 25 November, so should be watched
closely on her return
4. DANTES – Runner-up in a Quinte+ handicap on PSF at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 1600m on 15
January. Competitive off this mark and unlikely to be bothered by the switch to turf, so should fight
for victory
5. KHAMMA – Has demonstrated great consistency in conditions races but could do no better than
11th when returning to Quinté+ level last time on PSF over 160mm at this venue (15 January).
Can’t be written off back on turf now
6. ROSANNE DU GOUET – Made an encouraging comeback in her first outing at this venue,
finishing 3rd in a 1300m handicap last time (18 January) behind WIND OF CHANGE (10). Ought
to be competitive for the leading places
7. ETATIQUE – Unplaced in both outings on PSF recently since joining Antoine de Watrigant but
will appreciate reverting to turf off a mark which he won a Quinté+ at Saint-Cloud last year. Dark
horse
8. ACCLAM – Won consecutive handicaps but shot up 7kg as a result. Proved his competitiveness
nonetheless when 6th in a 1600m PSF Quinté+ handicap on 15 January. Not as effective on turf
but is dangerous to dismiss
9. GRIEGOS – Returned in November after an eight-month absence and has since distinguished
himself in claiming races, finishing 2nd on PSF over 1600m at this venue on 23 January. Not taken
lightly in a Quinte+ off this mark
10. WIND OF CHANGE – Bounced back to form with a good 2nd in a turf handicap over 1300m
last time, finishing ahead of ROSANNE DU GOUET (6). Has already proven his competitiveness
off this mark, so warrants serious respect here
11. IVORY SPRING – Acquitted himself well in the benchmark race, finishing 4th in a Quinté+
handicap on PSF over 1600m at this venue on 15 January, despite his slow start from a wide
barrier. Leading light
12. TILL WE DIE – Has only run once over such a long distance and finished 7th on that occasion.
Finished 11th in a 1300m turf handicap at Cagnes on 18 January, so is best watched for now
13. SASSICA – Proved her form and competitiveness off her current mark on several occasions
during 2023. Finished 10th at Deauville on PSF over 1400m on 4 November and is drawn wide on
her return, but isn’t underestimated 14. MORSAN – Has been impeccable in recent months and was rewarded for his consistency with
a last-start victory over 2150m at this venue on 23 January. Up 2,5kg for that win, though, so has
no more than a place chance
15. LARNO – Won four handicap races in 2023 and jumped 9kg in the weights/ratings as a result.
Has finished 8th in both outings this year, the latest on PSF over 1600m at Chantilly – for another
day
16. LEPARD – Lightly raced sort but has already won a handicap off a slightly lower mark. Finished
6th at Toulouse on 26 November and is jumping on his return, so is best watched for now in his
first start at this level
Summary: DANTES (4) was only narrowly beaten in a Quinte+ event on PSF last time and, with
the change of surface not likely to pose any threats, is a serious candidate for success. IVORY
SPRING (11) finished 4th in that reference race despite a wide stall and should mount a serious
challenge from a more favourable starting berth. IN THE MOOD (3) has a good record in handicap
races but has not been seen since finishing 4th in a Listed race back in November. She ought to
be competitive on her reappearance given the strength of that form. TIGRR (2), ROSANNE DU
GOUET (6) and WIND OF CHANGE (10) also have the means to play a leading role, while
GRIEGOS (9) has three comeback races in his legs now and returns to this category with legitimate
ambitions too
SELECTIONS
DANTES (4) – IVORY SPRING (11) – IN THE MOOD (3) – TIGRR (2)
R3 – PRIX DU DOCTEUR GAZAGNAIRE – 2150m (a1m 1/4) – TURF – Class 1 – Flat – EUR € 38,000
1. ALMIRO – Up significantly in class after an effortless last-start maiden victory over course and
distance on 20 January. Remains unexposed and could be anything, so would be dangerous to
discount
2. BACK TO BLACK – Consistent performer with sound form credentials, including a creditable 5th
in the reference race over track and trip behind SPLENDINO (5) and HARRY WAY (3) on 15
January. Money chance again
3. HARRY WAY – Won three of his first nine outings, finishing 2nd in the other six starts. Returned
from a five-month layoff to finish 2nd behind SPLENDINO (5) over track and trip on 15 January and
is good value to avenge that defeat
4. CELEB – Has improved his form and consistency in recent outings, although without success.
Remains a maiden after 13 starts and has no more than a place chance here
5. SPLENDINO – Last-start winner over course and distance under Christophe Soumillon, beating
HARRY WAY (3) to the post on 15 January. Will play a leading role once more
6. LAGUNA BEACH – Inconsistent performer last year but boasts a respectable record of a win
and three places from nine starts. That win, however, was in a considerably weaker contest at
Cologne in May – has more to do here
Summary: After a well-deserved rest following an excellent first half of last year, HARRY WAY (3)
made a very encouraging start to 2024 with a good 2nd to SPLENDINO (5) over course and
distance last month. The Nicolas Perret-trained former is, however, good value to avenge that
defeat with improved fitness on his side. BACK TO BLACK (2) has both the form and experience
to join that fight for victory, while unexposed last-start ALMIRO (1) is open to any amount of
improvement and could be good enough to play a role.
SELECTIONS
HARRY WAY (3) – SPLENDINO (5) – BACK TO BLACK (2) – ALMIRO (1)
R4 – PRIX DE SORMIOU – 2000m (a1m 1/4) – ALL WEATHER – Class 3 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 21,000
1. KANE ORE – Showed considerable promise in 2021 but flattered to deceive throughout 2022
and lost her way in 2023. Made no impression in handicap races recently, lastest here (16th) on
23 January, but is capable of better
2. ASLAN SENORA – Acquitted himself well in consecutive outings on the PSF at Chantilly before
finishing 10th in a handicap on turf last time at this venue over 2150m. Has a big chance back on
this surface
3. BALAGAN – Capable but inconsistent mare whose record suggests she’s more effective at a
lower level. Finished 8th in a 1600m claimer on PSF at this venue last month and has no more than
a place chance here
4. BINT AL JNOB – Made no impression in each of her three starts in the second half of last year
following a three-month break. Has not been seen since November when 11th over 1800m on PSF
at Lyon-La Soie
5. SUCCUBA – Revealed some means in two outings (5th on both occasions) at Dax in September,
but has failed to build on that in three unplaced subsequent starts on turf and PSF. Was 11th over
2500m at this venue on 18 January
6. SOLVEIG FURY – Showed some signs of improvement when reverting to this distance and PSF
last time, finishing 6th in a handicap at Lyon-La Soie on 3 January. Could sneak into the picture if
building on that progress
7. HEART DREAM – Has shown nothing in four outings on PSF, including his latest start (9th) in a
claimer over 2600m last month. Others preferred
8. DRAGON LOVE – Has rediscovered his form/consistency recently racing off his current mark
and ought to play a leading role here on the evidence of his reassuring 3rd over course and distance
last time (27 January). Winning chance
9. AMERICAN JOKER – Registered her only sole career success on PSF at this venue over 2400m
in January last year but has lost her way since. Finished 9th over 2400m on 20 January on this
course
10. JUSSIFER – Unreliable veteran and probably more effective at a lower level. Finished 5th in a
PSF claimer on 23 January over 2000m
11. TAG – Has remained competitive in the 3 starts since his last victory, despite finishing unplaced
on each occasion. Didn’t go unnoticed when 6th over 1600m here on 15 January and can’t
underestimated over this trip
12. KARYNIA – Won a claimer over course and distance on 23 January and, even under a 2kg
penalty, should have a role to play. Keep safe
13. TRIPTAJIKA – Honest mare with sound references, though has proved hard to win with (one
victory in 33 starts). Has only a place chance here having finished 9th on PSF at Cagnes-Sur-Mer
over 2000m last time 14. DIWAN SENORA – Has proven his competitiveness off his current mark, finishing 3rd in
consecutive starts on PSF over 1900m at Chantilly in December. One to beat
15. LOPAS – Lightly raced seven-year-old veteran of just seven starts, finishing unplaced in each
of them including four on this surface. Was 12th over 2000m on PSF at Cagnes-sur-Mer on 17
January
16. ELLECOEUR DRALLIV – Unplaced in each of his seven starts, including his last six outings
on PSF, so can be ruled out. Finished 9th at Lyon-La Soie over 2150m on 24 January
Summary: Veteran DIWAN SENORA (14) has lost little zest for racing and, after concluding 2023
with two good performances at Chantilly on this surface, is good value to reconnect with success
back at a track on which he has already won. DRAGON LOVE (8), who was a good 3rd here
recently, and the selection’s stable companion ASLAN SENORA (2) have the means to play leading
a role, as does KARYNIA (12) whose form and well-being is beyond doubt.
SELECTIONS
DIWAN SENORA (14) – DRAGON LOVE (8) – ASLAN SENORA (2) – KARYNIA (12)
R5 – PRIX WILLIAM ALEXANDRE RUINAT – 2150m (a1m 1/4) – TURF – Class 1 – Flat – EUR € 38,000
1. ALWAYS WELCOME – Thriving veteran and last-start winner over track and trip on 17 January.
At the top of his game at present, so remains capable of winning again under a penalty
2. BAKHCHISARAY – Consistent performer with sound form references/credentials, including a
good 3rd in a competitive Listed race over 2000m on PSF last month. Equally adept on turf, so has
to be taken seriously
3. TUMBLER – Unreliable but undeniably capable sort who has been sparingly raced. Finished an
encouraging 4th over this course and distance on 27 January and could have a say in the finish if
building on that improvement
4. CARLO BIRAGHI – Inconsistent but capable veteran with references at a good/higher level. Has
won over this distance but will need to improve after finishing a well-beaten 16th over 3000m at
Fontainebleau on 25 November
5. APOLLON – Consistent for the most part, but at a lower level and has no references in races of
this class. Finished 11th in a 2000m turf handicap at Marseille on 12 November
6. CRAPS – Absent since finishing 9th in a 2400m Listed race at Craon in September but has
proven himself racing fresh and boasts an impressive record at this venue and references at a
higher level. Keep safe
7. AZOV – Has strung together a good run of results from 1600m to 2000m on PSF, dating as far
back as June last year. Finished 3rd on PSF over 1600m on 21 January but is probably not as
effective on turf
8. PARTENIT – Ultra-consistent and reliable sort with proven references/credentials. Finished 2nd
to ALWAYS WELCOME (1) in the benchmark race over track and trip on 17 January
9. ELECTORATE – Started her career across the Atlantic and didn’t go unnoticed in her first start
on French, when finishing 6th on PSF at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 1600m last month. One to keep an
eye on
10. ASTORIA – Consistent performer at a lower level in Germany. Has been found wanting in both
starts on French soil this year, finishing unplaced (7th) on each occasion – latest over 2000m on
PSF at Cagnes-sur-Mer on 27 January
Summary: Veteran ALWAYS WELCOME (1) looked better than ever when winning over track and
trip on 17 January and could defy a penalty by following up. He will, however, have to thwart toprated CRAPS (6) who hasn’t finished worse than 2nd in two outings at this venue. PARTENIT (8)
and BAKHCHISARAY (2), who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively behind the selection in the
benchmark race last month, ought to remain competitive. TUMBLER (3) completes the shortlist.

ALWAYS WELCOME (1) – CRAPS (6) – PARTENIT (8) – BAKHCHISARAY (2)
