Firing on all cylinders in the Golden Rose

Cylinder aims for G1 glory in the Golden Rose on Saturday.

Group 1 racing returns to Rosehill Racecourse in Australia this Saturday, with the $1 million G1 Golden Rose (1400m) for three-year-olds highlighting the program.

Godolphin’s highly-promising colt, CYLINDER, leads the market in the fiercely competitive race after securing victories in both the Vain Stakes and the Run To The Rose this spring. Nash Rawiller will continue to partner with CYLINDER, while superstar jockey Ryan Moore is making the trip to Sydney to reunite with the Golden Slipper champion, SHINZO.

Similarly, Joao Moreira is also returning to ride MILITARIZE, the same horse he guided to victory in the ATC Sires and Champagne Stakes in April.

CYLINDER’S trainer, James Cummings, is pursuing his third Golden Rose victory, with his previous champions Bivouac (2019) and Hallowed Crown (2014) both having won the Run To The Rose as their final preparatory race.

Al Aabir primed fourth-up

Five-year-old stayer AL AABIR looks set to peak fourth-up in Saturday’s $250,000 Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality Handicap over 2400m at Rosehill Racecourse, Australia.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding is fourth-up into his current preparation and has been running well without winning or placing in three runs back. The five-time winner and four-time runner-up from 17 starts he been building to a more favorable distance after resuming over 1350m before rising to the mile second-up and 2000m third-up.

Al Abbir (centre) will have the services of Joao Moreira on Saturday.

With champion jockey Joao Moreira in the saddle, and relishing the rise to 2400m, AL AABIR looks on track to pick up another win.
