South Africa Racing – Load up with Renaissance Man

Recent results have been largely unkind to most punters and that trend could continue at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Monday where a string of race confined to apprentices could make things even more tricky.

So it may be prudent to use your ammunition in the first couple of races where there look to be some opportunity.

In the card opener, some useful young fillies’ line-up but Mike de Kock has nominated Ready To Fly for the Gr1 on Gold Cup day next Saturday so she must have shown enough to warrant an entry. She was a beaten favourite in her first two starts, although narrowly, but ran out a comfortable winner in her poly debut. She is on the same surface and looks capable of further improvement. Glen Kotzen has a smart string of two-year-olds and Lady Heist will be a threat even though she steps up to this trip for the first time and her two best efforts have been on the poly. Bright Star looks the best of Nathan Kotzen’s pair and although still a maiden she does show some promise.

Best bet could come in the second where Michael Roberts saddles Renaissance Man.

The gelding is lightly raced but ran a cracker first up out of the maidens so has earned top weight but he does rate the horse to beat.

Best of the balance could be Vasilikos who makes his poly debut but has consistent form and if he takes to the poly, he could be a threat.

From here on things get trickier.

In the third Let’s Get Together has shown some ability in some useful company and does have the best of the draw and although making his poly debut, he should enjoy this trip. I’ve Got Wings takes on males but has shown good recent improvement on the poly and with a 4kg claimer up she will be a big runner. Cannatonic has run his best race over course and distance and although he does have a wide draw to contend with, he should be right there.

Freedom’s Fire is in a tough handicap in the fourth where she takes on males but has been narrowly beaten at her last two from wide draws. The blinkers go on from a much better draw. Count Marsh won a smart sprint last outing from a useful Father’s Frost. This trip should be right up his street. Valencia and Charge Down could fill the shallow end of the purse.

Lady Yusra has been costly to follow but may be worth another chance in the fifth. She must have a change of fortune soon and should put in another forward showing and get it right this time around. Oh So Squishy could start at decent odds and has come on nicely at her last two. She looks primed for this event while Crazy Blue is down in class but gets a corresponding rise in weight. She won well enough to rate a strong chance again.

Weiho Marwing has been in town for the past few weeks and has two lively chances on the day. Gin And Tonic scored narrowly from a difficult draw but did get a four-point penalty for that win. However, she has a smart claimer up and can follow up in the sixth, a tough handicap. Magic In Motion won well first up on the poly and is down in class and with 4kg relief from the saddle should be competitive. Our Emily has been disappointing but has tumbled down the ratings and could now prove competitive.

In the last Marwing saddles Pashals Samore whose Highveld form is nothing to write home about. However, she has shown some recent improvement and the switch to the poly could see major improvement.

Lady Tiptree has good form on the poly and is down in class. With a good draw has much in her favour. Roy’s Rocker is over her preferred course and distance and with a light weight she can make a bold bid.

The seventh is another minefield of a handicap but Lady Macbeth is down in class. She tried a mile last time but appears more effective over this trip. Rock On Captain has made steady improvement and was narrowly beaten over course and distance last time and she can still come on from that effort. It’s best to ignore Kileigh’s Fate’s last two efforts where she had excuses. She goes very well this course and distance and will go close in spite of the wide draw. Twiceasfast either wins or runs unplaced. She has not been out since February but is capable.
