Candice Bass-Robinson and Aldo Domeyer have been enjoying a purple patch of late in the Western Cape and, with the 2021/22 season in its final month, the in-form combination looks set to continue its dominance as it aims to end the term on a high.

Domeyer’s recent spell has seen him ride five winners across the last two Cape Town meetings, all for Bass-Robinson whose stable sent out seven winners during that period – with jockeys Greg Cheyne and Keagan de Melo also beneficiaries of her yard’s red-hot streak.

In this sort of form, bettors would be wise to side with the in-form pair when racing at Kenilworth on the Winter course resumes with an eight-event card on Wednesday 13 July.

After three consecutive second-place finishes over 1000m, Time Thief filly Country Time should open her account and get the combination off to a winning start in Race 1 over 1200m.

Creme Brulee is a potential danger among the raced runners, although all eyes will be drawn to well-related Querari newcomer Gift From Heaven who could pose a bigger threat.

The Eric Sands-trained filly is out of Halfway To Heaven, making her a half-sister to Grade 1 winners Rainbow Bridge, Golden Ducat and Hawwaam. Respect any market support for her.

A return to 1400m should suit Canford Cliffs colt Canford Lights who represents the in-form duo in Race 3. After a second and fourth from two starts over the distance, Bass-Robinson’s charge was unsighted in a sales race (for graduates of the CTS Farm Yearling Sale) over 1200m, when finishing almost 2-lengths behind re-opposing Scalini.

The tables could well be turned over 1400m and the Swinger and Exacta (Quinella) route could be the way to go.

Prominent Cape Town owner Marsh Shirtliff has seen his familiar blue, white, and pink silks achieve considerable success with the Bass family and Master Of My Fate filly Echo Of Life could be another. She has improved with every start and lines up in Race 4 over 1400m having finished second over the course and distance last time out. With further progress expected, Domeyer ought to steer Echo Of Life to victory from a favourable No 3 draw.

Rivals Betty Boop and Say Yes also finished second when last seen and are likely to give cheek to the Bass-Robinson runner. Box a Trifecta with these three to show a profit.

Consistent Ma Black, another carrying Shirtliff’s colours, should resume winning ways in Race 7 when reverting to 1000m. She was a fluent winner over this distance two starts back and lost little in defeat when third under 60,5kg to Miss Greenlight over 1200m last time out, giving the winner 3kg.
