From a humble start, trainer Paul Peter is now in the front line of the battle to become South African Champion Trainer.
After recently still being more than a million rand behind leading contender Justin Snaith, Peter has made good progress and with just a few months left of the season he is within range of pulling off what would be a surprise win.
Every winner counts and even a midweek meeting on Wednesday 30 March at Scottsville could make the difference.
Peter does well when raiding KwaZulu-Natal, so let us have a look at his carded runners.
First up for him is Sabrina Fairchild in Race 4. The removal of blinkers a couple of runs back has certainly seen her make good progress this year and two wins have been recorded in her last three starts. Both were over this distance and the tough 1200m course should suit her nicely.
It also helps that Warren Kennedy will be aboard her.
Blinkers may not have helped Sabrina Fairchild, but it can certainly be argued that they have worked a trick with Super Agra.
This Visionaire gelding had been running well without winning but has made marked improvement in three starts with the headgear fitted and was a game winner of his last start. That should boost his confidence and he could well follow up in Race 5, a competitive event over 1200m.
Flower Alley gelding Indus Knight has cracked pole position in Race 6, a MR 68 Handicap over 1400m and he could go close to winning.
Kennedy does duty for the yard once again and a look at his form shows that he has brought out the best in this gelding.
When the gates crash open for the last, a FM 79 Handicap over 1400m, and the thirst for a winner isn’t quite quenched, do not fear as Peter has two bang-in-form runners that are well drawn and could fight out the finish.
Belle of Belize returned from a break and was a 33-1 winner for the yard last time out. She came from a long way back to win a good race. Fitter now she has a chance to follow up.
Stable rival Mckenna Skye is a very consistent filly and Muzi Yeni gets a rare ride for the yard.
