Punters have been set a stiff task at Fairview on Tuesday when they race on the Polytrack, so it might be best to use a different tactic and take some place bets in the early races.
Trainer Gavin Smith has probably had his best season for some time, and he could have a few runners in the early races with chances.
More was expected of Stay The Course in his early starts but he tired late in both of those races and it is probably best to try different tactics when he lines up in Race 1, a Maiden Plate over 1300m, this time.
He is probably better on the turf but from a good draw and with log-leading jockey Warren Kennedy in the irons he should fight out the finish once again. He may well win, but a nice place bet looks the safer option.
Another Smith-trained runner, Hikaru, may be worth one last shot in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1900m, and once again the safer option – a place bet –is the way to go.
The Global View gelding ran probably his worst race to date last time out but is clearly better than that run would suggest and has run some decent races this season. It would not be much of a surprise were he to contest the finish again.
Four-year-old filly Vision On Ice looked to be progressing nicely until her last performance and once again it is probably just best to ignore that effort.
Jockey Warren Kennedy is back aboard her in Race 3, a merit rated 66 Handicap over 1800m for fillies and mares, and Vision On Ice was a wide-margin winner over a similar course and distance a few starts back.
