AFRICAN PRIDE bounced back to form when a good second over track and trip last time, and on that form should have the measure of KARATE KID. Stablemates ECHO CHECK and CATFISH are distance suited and remain competitive under penalties after career-best last-start victories. The latter was a wide-margin winner over 1200m but is even more effective over the shorter trip. East Cape raider MASTER MTOTO will enjoy reverting to turf so must be respected. KAALVOET, ESPINOZA, THE SPECIALIST and UMZINGELI WENYATHI can also earn a cheque.

GOOD DAY SUNSHINE and GRISELDA are closely matched on the form of a recent 1200m meeting and, on pedigree, both could be better suited to this extended trip. ALICE B TOKLAS, SECRETARY BIRD, WITHIN REACH and DOESYOURMOTHERKNOW were well-performed juveniles and are open to any amount of improvement. Highveld newcomer IN HOT WATER fits a similar profile so is another to consider for larger perms.

Race Summary: Grade 2 winner FISH TALES makes his debut for the De Kock yard and could improve sufficiently to remain unbeaten on his reappearance. Familiar foe BISOU BISOU is 2kg better off, drawn better and has a fitness advantage so should pose a threat as a result. Runaway debut winner KINGS MOUNTAIN could be anything so warrants respect. Fellow last-start scorers GONE COLD, FIERCENESS and GIMME A FIREBALL could have more to offer over this extended trip so are also best kept onside. Other recent winners BANGKOK MAGIC, NOBLE SAINT, SHERIFF BILL BROWN and RAPTOR KING add further intrigue. A must watch.

Race Summary: Oaks heroine LITTLEMISSMILLION sets a lofty standard but is worth opposing under 62kg following a 7-month layoff. INDIAN OCEAN was caught late in a 2200m feature on the Inside track last time. She’s weighted to turn the tables on conqueror INTO DANCING, though the latter continues to improve and could do so sufficiently to confirm her superiority. FIRST WISH is better off at the weights with that rival on their 10 September clash and a 2-point penalty for beating male opposition recently shouldn’t prevent another bold bid. TOMYRIS, RAHHABBA and KUBU also have the means to get into the picture.

CHOISAANADA is closely matched with the selection on that form so has to be respected. ZEITZ is at the top of his game and will be competitive with this track and its long run-in likely to suit. CALLA LAGOON, GRAND EMPIRE and SPLITTHEEIGHTS aren’t taken lightly. Go wide.

BELLEROPHON, POSITIVE ATTITUDE and CORRUPT are proven stayers with the means to trouble the selection. UTSAAH has found her niche over staying distances but must raise her game to be competitive at this level. BEST CANDIDATE has performed well over 2000m but is an unknown quantity over this trip. There is stamina on his dam’s side so he can’t be ignored.

Versatile PLEASE BE TRUE is at the top of his game and a 4-point penalty for winning last time isn’t likely to halt his momentum.
