Six-year-old sprinter LAXON shapes as a leading contender in Sunday’s RM24,000 Class 5A Handicap over 1000m at Ipoh.
A four-time winner from 36 starts, LAXON may not be the most consistent performer, but he is more than capable of dominating a Class 5 field on his day. Two starts ago, the son of Darci Brahma attracted strong late betting support and duly delivered, making every post a winning one to score comfortably by 3.25 lengths over 1100m at this track. Things did not go his way last time out, however, as he was slow to begin and failed to show his customary tactical speed before finishing a modest sixth.
Facing a moderate field this week, LAXON looks capable of securing his fifth career win if he can begin cleanly and adopt his preferred on-speed racing pattern.
Five-year-old galloper MAVERICK appears to have recaptured the form he showed twelve months ago and looks well placed to return to the winner’s list in Sunday’s 1600m Class 5B contest at Ipoh.
Trained by Peter Lee, MAVERICK has not won since recording successive victories in July and August last year, but he has shown marked improvement in recent weeks. The gelding comes into this assignment off three consecutive placings over the mile, the latest coming as a beaten favourite two weeks ago after attempting to lead throughout.
With his natural early speed likely to see him race prominently again, MAVERICK looks capable of securing his fourth win over this track and distance.
