Race 1 (Randwick) – TAB Highway Handicap (1000m)
The lightly raced Ready To Rush is an exciting prospect returning from a spell. He has won two of his three starts, with his only defeat being a second placing, and barrier one should allow Rachel King to secure an economical position. This represents a significant rise in grade, but he carries only 54kg.
Nevermista has finished in the first three in 13 of his 20 starts. He won first-up over 900m before finishing second at Scone and appears suited at 1000m. Move She Can has an excellent first-up record of two wins, two seconds and a third from five attempts. Her recent Dubbo second suggests she returned in good order. Lady Olenna brings proven Highway form and has James McDonald aboard, although barrier 10 could make the task more difficult.
Race 2 (Caulfield) – The Valley @ Caulfield Handicap (1200m)
A competitive three-year-old contest opens the meeting, with several lightly raced horses showing considerable upside. Rich On Bubbles won three consecutive races during his first preparation, including the Listed St Albans Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield. His only subsequent appearance came in the Group 1 Sires’ Produce at Randwick, where he struggled on Soft 7 ground over 1400m. He returns to a more suitable distance and benefits from a two-kilogram claim.
Leopard Shark resumed with a second placing and has already won twice from six starts. Commit has a win and two placings from three appearances and draws ideally in barrier two. Last-start maiden winner Dustee is improving with racing, while Stakes has finished first and third in two starts and remains open to further development.
Race 3 (Randwick) – Precise Air Handicap (1400m)
The progressive Avista faces her first metropolitan test after winning three consecutive races. She has three wins and a third from four starts and handled Soft 7 conditions when scoring at Scone two runs ago. James McDonald takes the ride from barrier four, and the drop from 1500m to 1400m should not inconvenience her.
Persian Wonder returned with a 1200m maiden victory and will be better suited at 1400m. He finished second in the Group 3 Baillieu over this distance during his previous preparation. Blenheim Girl has won two of her three starts and should improve after a strong first-up victory at Canterbury. Nullarbor Jane has won or placed in seven of 13 appearances and arrives after a Randwick second over 1300m, but 1400m is a new test.
Race 4 (Caulfield) – Ladbrokes Big Bets Copy Now Handicap (1500m)
The consistent Celtics brings one of the strongest profiles into this Benchmark 70. He has recorded three wins and five placings from 11 starts and arrives following consecutive second placings. Barrier five should allow him to settle close enough without doing excessive work.
Stay Silent has been kept busy but continues to race well, with four wins and five placings from 15 appearances. He comes off a last-start victory and receives a two-kilogram claim, although barrier 10 could make his task more difficult. Botanical Boy has won three of his nine starts and should improve after finishing fifth when resuming. Rasp has been successful three times during his current preparation and remains competitive despite failing to win at his past two starts. Emergency Zebra Finch would warrant respect after a last-start victory if gaining a run.
Race 5 (Randwick) – MyPlates Handicap (2400m)
This staying contest centres around several horses coming through the same Rosehill 2400m race. Le Troisir won that event on a Heavy 9, defeating Masoun and Golden Century. He has now won two of his past four starts and remains attractively weighted with 56kg, although the firmer Soft 6 surface changes the conditions slightly.
Elle Hudson enters in outstanding form after consecutive victories over 2200m and 2400m. He has progressed from a Benchmark 64 to this Benchmark 78, but his recent consistency suggests he can handle the rise. Masoun finished second to Le Troisir last time and meets him 5kg worse at the weights, although the inside barrier and two-kilogram claim help. Golden Century was third in that race and gains James McDonald from barrier two.
Race 6 (Caulfield) – Sweeney Estate Agents Handicap (1000m)
Stokke returns in a fascinating short-course contest. The Patrick Ryan-trained mare has won six of her 10 starts, including three victories from four appearances during her previous preparation. She was particularly impressive winning the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes before spelling and draws favourably in barrier two with Blake Shinn aboard.
Cavalry Girl is the race-fit danger after producing two wins and two seconds from her past four appearances. She carries only 53kg and should again be prominent from barrier five. Bazaball Rewarded won a Benchmark 84 over this distance before finishing second at Caulfield and seventh at Flemington. Klabel possesses seven wins and 14 placings from 33 starts and has an excellent soft-track record of five wins from 12 attempts. His recent Group 3 ninth was better than the finishing position might suggest, with fewer than four lengths covering him and the winner.
Race 7 (Randwick) – MM Electrical Handicap (1600m)
One of the most competitive races on the card. Perfect Justice has been remarkably consistent, finishing in the first four at each of his past five starts. His sequence includes a Randwick 1600m victory and a last-start second over 1800m. Returning to the mile should suit, and the claim reduces his weight to 56.5kg.
Leovanni is chasing a fourth consecutive victory after progressing from a country maiden to two Highway wins at Randwick. The drop from 1800m to 1600m is unlikely to trouble her, while 52.5kg gives her another opportunity to measure up. The Creator has five victories from 18 starts at the distance and was excellent when third in stronger Benchmark 88 company last time. Kenmare Bay has finished in the first three in 16 of 22 starts and should enjoy a favourable run from barrier five.
Race 8 (Caulfield) – Drummond Golf Handicap (1600m)
This fillies and mares contest contains several progressive runners stepping up to the mile. Bronte Beach has found form with two thirds and a victory from her past three starts. She rises in weight after her latest success, but her recent consistency suggests she is ready for the 1600m assignment.
Jenni Multabella has missed the top three only once in six starts, recording three victories and two placings. She won impressively last time and remains lightly raced enough to improve again. Hi Val also enters as a last-start winner and receives a two-kilogram claim, reducing her weight to 54.5kg. Street Lark has finished in the first three at four of her past five appearances and draws to receive an economical run from barrier two. Cat Noir has placed at her past three starts and should appreciate returning to 1600m.
Race 9 (Randwick) – Ranvet Handicap (1000m)
There should be genuine speed throughout this Benchmark 88 sprint. Durova has built an outstanding record of eight victories from 15 starts, including four wins from six first-up appearances. She returned with a victory in the Kirby Handicap at Grafton and draws ideally in barrier three.
Prima Bella has won six of her 13 starts and produced a strong performance to score over 1000m at Flemington. The three-kilogram claim brings her weight down to 52.5kg, giving her an important advantage against the higher-rated sprinters. Beast Mode has seven wins and 12 placings from 25 attempts at 1000m. His Group 3 failure can be forgiven, but 61kg remains a challenge. Zouripper has won and placed twice in four recent starts and receives the inside barrier with only 53.5kg.
Race 10 (Caulfield) – Sungold Milk Handicap (1100m)
The speed should be genuine in a deep Benchmark 74 sprint. Mainmankash has developed an excellent record of four victories and a second placing from seven starts. He resumed with a win and should take further improvement from that performance, although barrier 10 leaves some early work to do.
Next Step Iowa has finished in the first three in seven of nine appearances. His current preparation has produced consecutive victories followed by two thirds, making him one of the most dependable runners in the field. Nordic Strike has recorded two wins and six placings from nine starts and narrowly missed last time. Behaviour is building towards another victory after finishing third and second at his latest two outings. Beautiful Bevy faces a rise in class but receives only 53kg after placing at each of her past three starts. The first-up High On The Hill also possesses a strong record, with three wins from six appearances.
Race 11 (Randwick) – Premier’s Cup Prelude (1800m)
Tazima is the clear form runner after winning his past three races at Randwick. He has six wins and four placings from only 14 starts and has handled everything from good to heavy conditions. His latest victory came over this course and distance while carrying 58.5kg after the claim. James McDonald takes over, but the gelding must now carry 56.5kg without an apprentice allowance.
Fortune returned with an encouraging second in the South Grafton Cup and has an excellent second-up record of two wins and a placing from five starts. Boniface has finished second in consecutive Randwick races over 1800m and carries only 52kg if he gains a start. Belvedere Boys has contested stronger staying races, including a Group 3 second over 2000m, but barrier 13 and the drop in distance create complications.
Race 12 (Caulfield) – MSC Signs Handicap (1200m)
A strong Benchmark 88 featuring several horses in winning form. Piastri returned to his best with an impressive Flemington victory over this distance. He carries three kilograms more but draws barrier one and has previously performed well on rain-affected ground.
Stylish has produced two seconds and a victory from three starts this campaign. She drops half a kilogram after narrowly missing at her latest appearance and benefits from the two-kilogram claim. Custom is another progressive runner, finishing second before winning last start, and carries only 52kg after the allowance. Thinxzo has won four of his past five starts and continues to rise through the grades. Betwitchery returned with a third placing and has won five of her 10 starts, suggesting she should improve sharply second-up. Great Maximus has placed in eight of 13 attempts over 1200m but must concede weight to several in-form rivals.
Race 13 (Randwick) – Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m)
A small but high-quality field launches several spring campaigns. Angel Capital has an exceptional first-up record of four wins from five attempts. He placed in both the Newmarket Handicap and William Reid Stakes during the autumn, giving him the strongest Group 1 sprint form in the race. Barrier three and James McDonald are further positives.
Gangsta Granny has never finished outside the first three in 12 starts, winning five races and placing seven times. Her first-up record stands at two wins, a second and a third from four attempts, and she receives 3kg from Angel Capital. Midnight Dynamite is race-fit and has won three of his past four starts, although the drop from 1500m to 1200m is significant. Ninja won the Hobartville Stakes before finishing fifth in the Randwick Guineas and has placed in both previous first-up appearances.
Race 14 (Caulfield) – Bottle Stop Handicap (1800m)
This is a deep middle-distance contest with several progressive horses opposed to more seasoned performers. Perfect Ten has won four of seven starts during his current preparation, including three of his past five. He was strong over this distance last time and draws ideally in barrier three, with the claim reducing his weight to 57.5kg.
Censori has won three of his six starts and comes into the race seeking a hat-trick. Barrier 14 presents a tactical challenge, but he appears capable of progressing beyond Benchmark 74 company. Red On Red recorded his fifth career victory last start and has won two of his past four. Taka Speed has been racing consistently without winning and produced an encouraging second at his latest appearance. Oraqua followed a recent victory with a solid third, while emergencies Zorro’s Flight and My Roca Fella would both bring strong recent form if securing starts.
Race 15 (Randwick) – Toyota Forklifts Handicap (1200m)
The fresh horses may hold the advantage in this fillies and mares contest. Scripted has compiled two wins and five placings from eight starts and has never missed the top two when resuming. She finished second in a strong Scone Wild Card over 1400m before spelling and draws well in barrier five.
Jellicious returned to form with a second over 1200m at Rosehill and has an excellent first-up profile when fresh. James McDonald stays aboard, although barrier 12 could force her to settle further back. Hellcibell has six wins from 21 appearances and arrives after a strong victory over 1280m at Muswellbrook. Ernaux produced her best performance of the preparation when second at Rosehill last start and gets another favourable draw in barrier four with 54.5kg.
Race 16 (Caulfield) – Ranvet Travis Harrison Cup (1800m)
The Travis Harrison Cup brings together an accomplished group of winter middle-distance horses. First Chorus is the runner on the rise after winning four of her past six starts, including her latest two appearances. She steps into stronger company but carries only 53.5kg after the claim and has already demonstrated that 1800m suits.
Bankers Choice has produced a victory and two seconds from his past four starts, including a narrow 1800m success at Sandown. The two-kilogram claim helps offset his 61kg allocation. Magnaspin returned to form with a second placing last time and draws favourably in barrier three. Jennivamoose resumes after winning three of her final four starts last preparation and has an excellent record of five wins from 12 appearances. Litzdeel also resumes with strong staying form and draws the inside barrier, while Boniface would be highly competitive with a light weight if gaining a start.
Race 17 (Belmont) – JJ Kelly Handicap (1600m)
The progressive Mt Shirataku steps beyond 1400m for the first time after producing a victory and a second from his past two starts. He has an excellent Belmont record of two wins and three seconds from seven appearances, while barrier two should allow Lucy Fiore to give him every opportunity to settle efficiently. The mile is the unknown, but his racing pattern suggests it should be within reach.
Ginger Green is the proven 1600m runner, recording three wins and eight placings from 20 starts at the distance. He comes off a third over 1400m and a second over the Belmont mile, and barrier one is another significant advantage.
King Hit won three consecutive races earlier in the year, including a Soft 5 victory over 1600m. He has improved across two runs since resuming and should be ready to peak third-up. Urquharts Bluff has won three of his past five starts and draws favourably, although he is yet to race over 1600m.
Lillian should improve considerably after resuming over an unsuitable 1200m. She won five of 13 starts during her previous campaigns, including three victories between 1800m and 2200m, but barrier 12 and a winless record on soft ground are potential concerns.
Race 18 (Belmont) – Angus Armanasco Handicap (1400m)
A competitive one-metro-win race featuring several emerging horses. Supido Express arrives after a strong 1400m victory at Belmont, taking his overall course record to two wins and five placings from eight starts. The two-kilogram claim leaves him with 55kg, and barrier four should provide a favourable run.
Refemme No Angel has two wins and a second from seven starts, with both victories coming at Belmont. She won first-up over 1200m before narrowly missing over this course and distance. Barrier 14 is the obvious difficulty, particularly if she is forced to cover ground.
Tidwell returned to winning form over the Belmont 1400m last start. The lightly raced gelding has won three of eight appearances, including two victories from four starts at the course. Cinque Stelle is another runner with considerable upside, having won two of four starts. She comes off a Soft 5 victory at Bunbury and gains William Pike from barrier two, but the rise from 1100m to 1400m is a substantial new test.
Deltason has placed at three of his past four starts and was narrowly beaten at his latest appearance. Fifth Essence carries 61kg but has won twice and placed twice from seven attempts over 1400m, including two seconds from three course-and-distance appearances.
Race 19 (Belmont) – Listed Belmont Newmarket (1200m)
The H.G. Bolton Stakes provides the key form reference for this Listed sprint. Fluro Neuro produced a powerful finish from near the rear to win that race over the same course and distance. His overall profile is remarkably consistent, with eight wins and 13 placings from 34 starts, while his Belmont 1200m record stands at two wins and two seconds from seven appearances. He rises 1.5kg but draws barrier one.
Snowdome went within 0.08 lengths of defeating Fluro Neuro in the Bolton. He has won nine races and more than $1 million in prize money, with a strong Belmont record of a win and three placings from five starts. The 1200m is also suitable, with six top-three finishes from 11 attempts.
Final Siren finished third in the same race and remains attractively weighted with 54kg. He has finished in the first three in 13 of 20 starts and boasts two wins and four placings from seven Belmont appearances. Madhi Girl finished fourth in the Bolton and again receives only 54kg. She has six victories from 19 starts and an outstanding soft-track record of four wins from five attempts.
Reposs¬ession returned with a third in the Listed Beaufine over 1000m and should improve over 1200m. He has won five of 15 starts, including two of three appearances at Belmont, although all five victories have come over 1000m. Immortal Bliss won the Beaufine before finishing fifth in the Bolton and remains another genuine chance despite drawing barrier 10.
Race 20 (Belmont) – Congratulations Michael Grantham Handicap (1200m)
The rapidly improving Common Touch is chasing a fourth consecutive victory. He progressed from a Bunbury maiden win to victories at Pinjarra and Belmont, with the latest coming over this course and distance. He has won three of 10 starts, including two from five over 1200m, and barrier two should allow him to settle close to the speed.
Zourun Run has won four of his six Belmont appearances and enters after defeating stronger opposition over 1400m. He drops back to 1200m, where he has a second and a third from three attempts. Barrier 11 is awkward, but his record of five wins and three placings from 10 starts underlines his ability.
Magical Sequence was unable to extend her winning run over 1400m last time, but the return to 1200m is an important positive. She has won four of six starts at the distance and draws well in barrier four. Her overall record of six victories from 12 appearances makes her one of the most accomplished runners in the field.
Hey Pino had been racing consistently before his latest failure, recording a second and two thirds from his previous three starts. The two-kilogram claim brings him down to 55kg. Under Influence has four wins and eight placings from 19 Belmont appearances and could improve back at 1200m, while Asif resumes with William Pike aboard after finishing in the first three in four of his final five starts last preparation.
