Korean racing, more importantly the Korean Racing Association (KRA), have long been associated with racing in KwaZulu-Natal and the KRA Cup (Listed) heads the card at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday night where punters are faced with a competitive card.
The KRA Cup over 1600m, formerly known as the Off To Stud Stakes, has attracted a competitive field, the hallmark of the evening’s racing.
But Mike and Mathew de Kock could have the answer in the Rafeef filly Drumnadrochit in the KRA Cup that I doubt will be headed for the breeding paddocks anytime soon. She got a hefty shunt up the ratings after finishing an unplaced seventh in the Gr 2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas and was a distant third in the SA Oaks. She is back down to what looks to be a more suitable trip and has room to improve.
Sean Tarry sends out That’s My Baby, the six-year-old who may be headed for retirement, but has run two smart recent races on this course in useful company and must have a strong winning chance of earning more black type.
Miss Twinkle is lightly raced but never far back. She has had three runs since a break and showed up well in good company last time put. From the best of the draw she should be a contender. Swiatek has the widest draw and makes her local debut for Justin Snaith who’s string is due back in Cape Town soon. She has steady Cape form over the distance and any market support must be taken seriously.
One of the better bets on a tricky card could come in the last where Steamy Windows looks the part for Mike Miller. The gelding was a beaten favourite over shorter last time but had smart form in strong company over this trip prior to that. He gets first time blinkers from a handy draw and could prove hard to beat.
If there is a danger it could come from Next Of Kin who is never far behind and goes well this trip. Blue Steel is not the easiest ride and his best recent form has been on the poly. He also has a big weight but on his best form he should be a contender while Tam’s Knight is better off at the weights with Blue Steel but the latter does appear to have more to offer and can beat the handicapper.
