Hollywoodbets Greyville hosts KwaZulu-Natal’s premier breeders’ meeting on Saturday, with eight of the nine races restricted to locally bred runners. The feature events are the KwaZulu-Natal Breeders Mile and the Gr 3 Lucky Fish Winter Fillies Stakes.
The Breeders Mile looks highly competitive. Palace Prince, trained, owned and bred by St John Gray, heads the ratings despite some uninspiring recent Highveld form. The son of Potala Palace is the highest-rated runner and could prove difficult to beat if returning to his best.
Golden Operator represents Sean Tarry, who has an outstanding record at this meeting. Although disappointing in feature company last time, he had won his previous two starts and remains a leading contender despite a wide draw. Amelia’s Legacy drops in class after contesting the Gr 2 WSB Fillies Guineas and should be competitive, while the consistent Cleartherunway is another with claims.
The Gr 3 Winter Fillies Stakes (2400m) sees Curious Girl attempt to bounce back after failing against males last time. The SA Oaks winner has already proven herself over the trip and sets the standard. Tarry’s improving Gerbera is a danger, while James Crawford’s pair Woman’s World and Duchess Of Paloma both have winning chances, with the latter expected to appreciate the extra distance. Plum Pudding also rates highly after a close defeat behind Gerbera.
Earlier on the card, Riff Raff Boy appeals in Race 1 after meeting stronger opposition recently, while Querari Dancer should be competitive despite a disappointing Allan Robertson run.
Fortress Of Fire looks a solid Bi-Pot anchor after encouraging efforts in stronger company. Hathighwaytothesky, Magic Surprise, and Tara Star are respected dangers.
In the Place Accumulator opener, Hat’s Queen appears well treated at the weights after finishing as a beaten favourite over course and distance. Blizzard Boy, Fine Wine, and Prince Of Troy are among the main threats.
Owner Of Creation may finally break through in Race 4 after consistent polytrack form, though concerns remain about his finishing effort. Water Hyacinth and Liz Hurley also warrant consideration.
The maiden handicap in Race 5 is open, with Queen Of The Air, America First, and Tears Of The Sun all capable of improving.
The final two races are wide open. Space Mission, The Gliding Fish, Run To Rio, War Emperor, and Frostbite all hold chances in Race 8.
In the finale, Winter In London drops in class and could capitalise despite top weight. Indecent Proposal and Tommy Greaney are key dangers.
