Seoul Race 1: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(8) GEUMBIT YEONGUNG has run 4th in both starts so far over this distance, most recently as favourite on April 11th when he got a long way back before running on. He enters fresh after nine weeks off and with a good apprentice claiming 2kg, he can win. (1) DONGBAEK was an improved 3rd at this distance on May 10th, coming from off the pace. She comes into a much better gate today so can sit a bit further forward and can be a danger. (7) MISS CHRISTIE similarly draws better than she did at her latest and with a 4kg claim today, she can be much closer. (5) JEONGMUN KINGDOM and debut-maker (10) SAVERS are others who can be in the hunt.

Seoul Race 2: Class 6 (1300M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(1) ILGEUP BISUL returned from eight months off to run a fair 5th over this distance on May 16th, settling back and passing a couple late. Before the layoff she had a 3rd place to her name and stripping fitter today, she has as good a chance as any. (9) ECLIPSE SUNNY ran a solid 3rd on debut in March but was lackluster on her second appearance and was later found to have bled. She was stood down the obligatory month and came through a May trial without issue so is well worth another chance here. (8) MEGA WIND hasn’t been far away across his four outings to date and can be around the placings here. (7) NAEGEROWAJWO and (4) DIABIT among other chances.

Selections

Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

(8) BABEL FOLGORE has made progress across three starts so far, culminating in 2nd place over 1200M on May 10th when on pace and beaten by a good winner. She stretches out to 1400M for the first time but in this small field, she should be on the speed again, and she can win. (6) DIA KINGDOM has a 3rd and a 2nd among three outings to date. He has been a huge price on all three occasions but can start to be taken a bit more seriously here. (1) OASIS HWANHUI ran 2nd at start number two all the way back last October. He hasn’t raced since but he looked well in a May trial and can be a danger first up. (3) RED KING and (2) YEONGGWANGUI GREEN others in the frame.

Seoul Race 3: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 45 Million

Fillies only in this maiden. (1) FLYING SMART has been a beaten favourite in all three of her races so far, getting a long way back and registering a 2nd, a 4th and a 3rd. If she can get out of gates a bit smarter and find a better position she can be given another chance as once out of kickback, she looks to have a bit of pace. If she finds problems again then (3) CLAIR FREEDOM is a decent alternative. She made it to the speed from the widest gate over this distance on May 24th and ran on for 2nd ahead of a couple of today’s rivals and from a much better draw, she won’t need to improve much on that to win here. (5) DELTA DAECHEON looks to be figuring things out with a 3rd and a 2nd from her latest two, both over 1300M and the slight step up in trip today can suit (9) ÉCLAIR WIND and (6) BLACK SUN – who beat Flying Smart when 2nd in April – others to look out for.

Busan Race 2: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Small but competitive field. (8) DOCTOR HUNTER has won two of his last three, most recently at this class and distance on May 15th racing, as he always does, handy throughout and beating a couple of today’s rivals. He is up 2.5kg in weight but looks to have more potential and can win. (1) BORYEONG ONE ROAD enters off a very smart 2nd place in a quick race over this class and distance on May 3rd. That was her second consecutive runner-up finish and from the inside gate and under a light weight, she is a big danger. (3) TAEYANG EUTTEUM was 3rd behind Doctor Hunter two outings back and was then 4th from the widest hate on May 31st and she should be there or thereabouts today. (5) DALBITWIE and (6) CALM FAST are others who can compete for the minors.

(6) YUKWAEHAN SEUNGJA ran four times at the end of last year and the beginning of this, breaking through in January over 1200M when settling behind the speed and running on. She hasn’t run since but has been back in work since April and looked well enough in a May trial to suggest she can be a danger first-up under a light weight. (8) RAON KINGSMAN got his maiden win at start six over 1300M on May 9th, racing handy throughout. He is up in class but down 2.5kg in weight and he can measure up. (9) IKKEULIM is yet to win but ran a solid 3rd place on his first try at this class on May 17th and can match or better that here. Veteran (1) JURING SKY along with (4) HAKSAN TAEPUNG are among other contenders.

Busan Race 3: Class 4 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(5) GLOBAL PRINCE won three of his first four up to this class and distance which earned him his chance in the Korean Derby last month. He was relatively well backed for that Classic but never really featured and ended up 11th of fifteen. That was his first race for two months though so he can strip fitter this time and back in more amenable company, he can return to winning ways. (2) OASIS WINNER broke a streak of five consecutive 3rd place finishes, albeit in the wrong direction when 4th this class over 1400M on May 24th. He comes down slightly in weight here and back up to 1800M, and drawn nicely in a small field, it is not impossible that it could be the twenty-race maiden’s day. (8) SKYLAR JIYOU has won at this distance and under a light weight can go close. (4) SINCHON DOKSURI and (3) BEST BOY others to consider.

Seoul Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies and mares only. (9) TRIGONUS got her maiden win at start two over 1200 on March 29th and then ran 4th on May 9th after a slightly slow start. She looks to have plenty more progress in her and she can win here.  Ater running 3rd on debut, (3) ECLIPSE ELLY won at start number two over 1300M on March 1st when she led from gate to wire. She went lame after that but returned to work on May 20th and while match fitness must be taken on trust, she has every chance. (7) CHEONGHAE STAR broke through at start nineteen on May 9th, beating Trigonus and a couple more of today’s rivals with a much handier than usual effort. She only comes up 1.5kg in weight and while Trigonus might have more scope for development, she shouldn’t be far away. (10) HAKSAN DAESE and the returning (11) LUCKY DAY others firmly in the frame.

(10) POWERFUL THUNDER got his maiden win at start six and evidently enjoyed it as he followed up immediately on May 15th with an on pace score at this class and distance, beating three of today’s rivals in the process. He comes up 2.5kg in weight, but given the form he is in, he can win again. (1) SWORN QUEEN was a maiden winner over this distance just before Christmas and after a couple of goes to figure out this level, she ran 2nd over 1300M on May 10th when ridden a little closer a bit earlier than usual. She stays under a light weight, CC Wong opts for a day at Busan instead of Seoul and rides for the first time, and she is a danger. (4) SUCCESS COW has been in the top four in each of his latest three and can be there or thereabouts again. (2) BURUI SINJEON and (7) CARAT KING other place chances.

Seoul Race 6: Class 3 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

After a very cold run of form, (1) CHEONJANGSA returned to the winner’s circle in good fashion at this class and distance on May 16th, coming from off the pace. He is up 2kg in weight, but this race is weaker and he should really be winning again. (6) SUPER BLUEMOON ran 3rd in that May 16th race, closing from midfield. That continued a run of fair form, and he should be aiming to get closer today. (3) PURGE STEP was an also ran in the Donga Ilbo on the Queens’ Tour two starts back before weakening having been on pace at this class and distance in a different race to the aforementioned two on May 16th She stays under a light weight, she should lead as there is no other early speed, and against this lot, she should be in it a long way. (10) MK Lee and (4) SUMMER PARTY (the latter who will probably take off in the back straight) are others to look out for.

Selections

(1) Cheonjangsa (6) Super Bluemoon (3) Purge Step (10) MK Lee

Busan Race 5: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies (and one mare) only here. (10) CHAMPUI SARANG led for most of the way around over 1200M on debut on May 15th and scored by a dismissive six-lengths. He is up in class as well as slightly in trip and also has to deal with much wider gate, but none of those should be a deal-breaker and on the evidence of that debut, he can win again. (3) NORTHERN QUEEN is yet to win in six, but she comes up in class following two runner-up finishes from her last three at 1200M and at this distance. She likes to race on pace, so she is drawn well and under a light weight and with CC on, she can measure up. It’s been a long time since (2) SUCCESS GOLD got her sole win, but she has a 2nd and a 3rd among her latest three and well-drawn and with an apprentice claim, she can be close. (4) GLOBAL HEROINE and (9) BULBIT YEONGMA are the other main chances.

Seoul Race 7: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

It’s hard to go far past (2) UNJU PRINCE here. He won back-to-back races over 1400M and 1300M in January and March, leading all the way both times, before finishing 3rd on his first try at this level on April 11th when he couldn’t get to the lead from gate eight. He comes in fresh after nine weeks off, he draws better, and he can return to winning ways. (9) BEOLGYO LAVA is a two-time winner over this distance and enters off a 3rd and a 4th from his latest two, most recently beating a couple of today’s rivals on May 9th. She stays under a fair weight, and she can be finishing strongly. One of those was (8) SAENAE FIGHTER who put in a below par effort that day, using up a lot of energy to get to the front from gate ten and knocking up quickly. He was a winner at class and distance two starts back though and with an easier route to the lead today, warrants another chance. (4) WHIZ PERFECT and (1) MATTERHORN K are other chances.

Busan Race 6: Class 4 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

It took until her four-year-old season to debut, but it has so far been worth waiting for (9) CHEONNYEONDOR. She won on debut over 1300M in March and followed up at 1400M in filly only company on May 8th both times racing on pace. That brings her rapidly up in class and up to the mile for the first time, but she is down significantly in weight, she stays in restricted filly and mare company, and she can maintain her 100% record. The big danger is (3) THE NOMINATE. She was a good class and distance winner on May 24th, with three of today’s rivals behind her and drawn in the same gate and barely coming up in weight, she must be a chance. (5) POCKET MILLION and (2) ANN BUNNY were 3rd and 4th behind The nominate in that May 24th race, and both can be in the placing mix again. (6) WORLD TOP TIER the other one to consider.

Seoul Race 8: Class Open (2000M) Special Weight A / Gyeonggi Governor’s Cup (KOR G3) / KRW 500 Million

The final leg of the Triple Tiara and in the absence of Luna Stakes victor Clearly Winner, the filly who narrowly beat her in the Oaks, (5) CATCH RACE, will be a short price favourite. Catch Race was 3rd in the Luna but came into her own in the Oaks, racing handy and grinding down Clearly Winner. The extended trip can pose no undue problems, and she should win, but she won’t offer much value. (8) TIGER ROAR is a winner of just one from ten but came from well off the pace for 6th in the Luna at a mile and then 3rd in the Oaks at 1800M. The 2000M here should be even better. So too for (4) WILD MAGIC, who joins the Tiara trail at the final stage. She has won her latest two at 1700M and 1800M up to class 4 level leading all the way both times and looks a prospect. She can outstay fellow front-runner (2) CHIEF STAR, who may be the most talented filly of her generation but hasn’t stayed the mile of the Luna or the 1800M of the Oaks. That doesn’t bode well for 2000M, but she can make the prize money on ability alone. (10) SUNRISE, 4th from a similarly wide gate in the Oaks, another to consider.

Busan Race 7: Class 1 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 110 Million

(1) PRIME SECRET comes out of the Busan Mayor’s Cup where he was outmatched and then some having come out of the widest gate to show on pace early but be one of the first beaten. Two starts back he won at class 2 over this distance and under a light weight and from a good gate, he has every chance here. (6) UNJU GUY won over this distance at class 2 level three outings back and has a 5th and a 2nd in two subsequent class 1 efforts. He likes to race on pace and while he has his fair share of weight here, he can be close. (4) CARDINAL FORCE won the race that Unju Guy was 5th in over 2000M in April before he too had a trying time in the Busan Mayor’s Cup. Like Prime Secret, he should be much more comfortable today. (8) ONEULISUNGAN and (2) JEONGMUN COBIT, the latter second-up after a lengthy absence, are others to look out for.

Seoul Race 9: Class 2 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 90 Million

Decent race. (1) ZETTA MASTER has nine top three finishes from twelve tries at this distance with two wins among them. He comes off a 4th place in the Listed Sports Chosun over 2000M on May 17th when coming from well off the pace and while he has a big weight to carry, he is the one to beat. (2) DRAGON KILLER was an on-pace winner over this distance at class 3 level on May 16th. He has eleven top three finishes from thirteen starts, and while up in class here, he is nicely drawn to be on pace and he can be competitive. (10) TANSEONGUI BANSEOK is also up in class after a score over a mile on May 3rd when coming from off the pace. He has already won twice at 1800M and should be in this. (4) BLUE NELLO and up in class last start winner (6) SAEPARANG others in the minor money hunt.

Seoul Race 10: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Quite an unusual finale in that a previously unraced horse is going to be the pick and probable favourite. (2) PHANTOM PRINCE went through two trials, running 3rd in a very slow heat first and then winning in a quick time in the second (62.6 seconds having settled midfield on May 28th for those whose racecards the heat doesn’t appear in). If he brings that form to the races, he beats this very ordinary set of opponents. (1) MY SUPERMAN and (7) COMPLETE STEP are the best of the very ordinary experienced ones and while both their recent form is only average, they should both at least compete for a place in this race. Debut-maker (9) AMOS MAN went through three trials with the last of them being a distant 3rd behind Roshe. He should be nice and fit for this. (3) BREEDO CHAMPION is another experienced one who may improve.
