Porfirio can keep course and distance record intact

Trainer Kelly Mitchley 练马师米奇利

Trainer Kelly Mitchley must be very pleased with what she has got out of Porfirio, as the now ten-time winner has already struck five times this season. The seven-year-old gelding takes on nine rivals in Race 6, a Middle Stakes over 1600m on the Fairview Polytrack.

Porfirio is unbeaten in three starts over this course and distance. Jockey Muzi Yeni has won three times on him this season and the gelding was not disgraced last time out when fourth behind the useful Zinovi in a stronger race than this.

His stable companion, the filly Genovefa, also boasts a strong record on this surface, although not quite as good as Porfirio. She has won four of her six Polytrack starts, along with a runner-up finish and a third place.

This Danon Platina filly runs in Race 7, a MR 84 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m. Genovefa has a solid record over the course and distance with two wins and a third from three starts. Once again, stable jockey Yeni takes the ride, but she faces a tougher assignment this time from a poor draw in stall No 8, so front-running tactics may be employed.

Probably the most interesting race on the card is the finale, where juvenile Casperita looks to be on a confidence-boosting mission.

The Fire Away filly was an impressive wide-margin debut winner and has since been pitched into stronger company than the low-grade handicap she tackles on this occasion. From a good draw, jockey Richard Fourie really ought to be hard to beat with her.
