Hollywoodbets Kenilworth stages a competitive Sunday card with the Listed Somerset 1200 for juveniles headlining proceedings. James Crawford’s filly Shezaripper looks well treated at the weights and could land an important feature success after skipping the RCS Slipper in favour of Cape targets. She made an impressive debut when beating Sparkling Star over 1000m before returning from a three-month break with a strong second to Tag And Release over 1100m. Crucially, she now meets that rival on 3kg better terms. French rider Mickaelle Michel takes the mount after a winning first visit to Cape Town.
Reef Runner adds intrigue after a dominant debut success. The powerful juvenile impressed with a front-running three-length win and now jumps sharply in class, but he looks a colt with plenty of upside. Tag And Release commands respect as the only feature winner in the field after claiming the Winter Nursery, while Grapes Of Wrath, a half-sister to Charles Dickens, returns from a break after an emphatic debut victory.
Race 1 could go the way of World Of Secrets, who improved markedly from her first to second start and now looks ready to challenge over 1000m. Nadia Nerina rates the main danger, while market support for newcomers should be monitored closely.
Whirlwind appears progressive in race 2 over 1200m. She faces tougher opposition from class droppers Call Me Secret, Pink Pigeon and Wild Applause, but her natural speed and steady progression make her a leading contender with Richard Fourie aboard.
Swift Serenity is overdue after three straight runner-up finishes and may finally break through in race 3, although the 1200m trip remains a slight concern. Race 4 looks modest and provides Giddy Up Grace with a solid opportunity after encouraging recent efforts from the in-form Candice Bass yard.
My Only Weakness can turn the tables on Cutie Patootie in race 5 with a favourable swing at the weights and a better draw. Race 6 is wide open, but Girl Like Us gets the nod on consistency and the booking of Keagan de Melo.
Blue Lagoon impressed in her first run after shedding her maiden tag and could follow up in race 8 over 1200m. In the finale, Love Shack gets a narrow vote dropping back to the minimum trip, though the race looks highly competitive and open to several winning chances.
