The Polytrack meetings continue into the new year, and it is in Race 1 and Race 8 where we might have a winner or two at Fairview on Friday 2 January.
Trainer Dean Smith has fitted well into his new role as trainer pretty nicely and the winners are flowing. He can get this meeting off to a solid start with his filly Drinking Problems. This four-year-old filly makes her local debut, but she is fit and in form.
She is also proven on the Polytrack.
Jockey Craig Zackey gets his first ride on her and from a good draw, he can get Drinking Problems home.
Rival trainer Alan Greeff has some strong runners on the card, but of them all it is possible he will get the most pleasure if Wild Fig manages to win the last race. This Fire Away gelding has become very frustrating and costly to follow recently and has been runner-up in his last three starts, the latest in a handicap over 1600m on 5 December.
He has run well over that distance, but it is worth remembering that his only win to date was over the 1400m of this race.
Jockey Richard Fourie has been aboard him for all three of those runner-up performances, and it is not often he is unable to bring home at least one of three. He will no doubt be keen to set that record straight with some winning success.
