Final Try is Baie Mooi

Trainer Alan Greeff should have another very profitable day at Fairview on Wednesday 5 November, although it’s possible that some of his winners may not come under regular jockey Richard Fourie.

The What A Winter gelding Final Try is one of three entrants for Greeff in Race 7, a MR 96 Handicap over 1400m on the Fairview Polytrack.

The four-year-old has been very impressive of late with two smart recent wins. He beat useful yardstick Honorable Member by 2 lengths over 1600m on the Polytrack on 10 September, and then thrashed stable companion and favourite King Prawn by 3.50 lengths over 1400m on the turf on 3 October.

Those two wins have seen the gelding’s merit rating rise by 12 points, and Kendall Minnie takes the ride this time.

For those who prefer to side with stable jockey Richard Fourie, he partners Wecangoallnight. This Gimmethegreenlight gelding was not disgraced on local debut when finishing fourth, trying the Polytrack for the first time.

The other Greeff-trained runner is the consistent and much-improved Dubai Hills, who has won four times this year and should also find the 1400m right up his alley.

Earlier on the card, the Greeff–Fourie combination should score with Baie Mooi in Race 5, a Graduation Plate over 1200m. The four-year-old Canford Cliffs filly was a facile winner of her first two starts this year. She returned from a break and reportedly was not striding out when a disappointing fifth over this course and distance on 23 September. That run is best forgotten, and she looks well-weighted to win — comfortably so.

If following in-form runners who keep winning is your style, then Tintamarre in Race 6, a MR 82 Handicap over 1200m, certainly fits that profile. This Fire Away four-year-old gelding has just pulled off a hat-trick of wins on this surface, with his most recent victory the easiest of the lot. He has received a five-point penalty for that win, but he’s in top form and could very well extend his winning streak.
