The Non-Black Type Allez France Stakes over 2200m tops the bill on this weekend’s nine-race Inside track card at Turffontein on Saturday when the spotlight will likely fall on jockey Muzi Yeni, whose book of eight rides on the day include several attractive betting propositions.
Yeni’s decision to ride Roy Magner-trained It’s Personal in Race 4 over 1200m speaks volumes of his mount’s chances, as he guided stablemate Super Awesome to a last-start win over 1450m but now opts for the former instead, despite conceding weight under 61kg.
Another Yeni partner to follow is Matcha Mint in Race 5 over 1600m. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight shed her maiden tag in emphatic style over this course and distance, romping home by more than five lengths under Yeni.
The form has since been franked with two subsequent winners from that race, and trainer Paul Matchett’s filly looks progressive enough to handle the rise into handicap company. She’s one to keep onside as her three-year-old season unfolds.
Consistent United Council is good value to land the spoils in the day’s main event, the 2200m Non-Black Type Allez France Stakes (Race 6), and complete a race-to-race-to-race treble for the diminutive lightweight rider.
Robbie Sage’s inmate was victorious over 2400m when last partnered by Yeni, whose five outings aboard this six-year-old mare have yielded three wins and a fourth.
Even under top-weight 60kg, United Council is weighted to be competitive and supporters of the Sage-trained mare can expect a big run for their money.
Yeni could cap a potentially lucrative afternoon when teaming up with Chronicle King in Race 7 over 1450m. This son of Vercingetorix proved his Grade 2 Golden Horseshoe victory was no fluke when finishing third in the Grade 1 Premier’s Champion Stakes. Now, returning as a three-year-old, Chronicle King is set for bigger and better things, especially with Yeni aboard, and the Dawson-trained colt appeals as a confident win bet.
