Trainer Kelly Mitchley has her runners in fine form and her talented filly, Bonjour La Ville, could follow up on a nice win over Danish Dynamite and take out Race 4, a MR 86 Handicap for fillies and mares over 1000m on the turf track at Fairview on Friday.
This William Longsword filly has won three of her nine starts and looked better than ever when slamming the Gavin Smith-trained Danish Dynamite by 1.50 lengths over Fairview’s 1200m on 5 September. That form has held up very well as Danish Dynamite had won her previous start and went on to win her next outing after that defeat.
Bonjour La Ville quickened up very nicely that day and is clearly improving. That was only the second time Muzi Yeni had ridden her and he is getting to know her better. It was also her second attempt over that distance, and being dropped off the pace clearly suited her.
A five-point penalty may not be enough to stop another victory but she does face some decent rivals. Gavin Smith-trained Instaworthy was two lengths ahead of Bonjour La Ville when they met over this course and distance back in March and she showed she has regained some of her sparkle with a good win on the Polytrack last month.
The Alan Greeff–Richard Fourie combination is represented by the consistent filly Kings Again. This One World filly has been taking on older males recently, has won over this distance, and will not go down without a fight.
Trainer Juan Nel is also enjoying a good run of form and his filly, Priscilla Maisey, must be respected. This four-year-old has hit the board in all four of her local runs.
Earlier on the card, Race 2, a MR 84 Handicap over 1200m, sees only six runners go to post but includes some promising types. Gavin Smith-trained Pop Chart has had only two starts so far but was impressive when winning his second outing.
He had found only one better on debut earlier in the year, and the break, during which he was gelded, has clearly worked wonders.
Pop Chart thrashed Away With Red by 6.75 lengths, and that runner has since come out and won easily. He may not have it all his own way, though, as Roman Agent brings proven form to the race.
This Vercingetorix gelding has won two of his 15 starts in the Western Cape and has finished runner-up in both outings since the addition of blinkers.
