Golden Rose Preview: Tempted Takes on the Boys in Group 1 Showdown

Tempted

This Saturday at Rosehill, the spotlight is firmly on the Group 1 Golden Rose, and all eyes are on Tempted, the Golden Slipper placegetter, ready to take on the colts.

The Godolphin-owned, Ciaron Maher-trained filly has already proven she’s a class above. After finishing third in the world’s richest two-year-old race, Tempted claimed the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes and returned in emphatic fashion two weeks ago, taking out the Group 2 Run to the Rose first-up. Now rated as one of the top three-year-old’s in the country, she comes into Saturday’s feature as the one to beat.

But she won’t have it all her own way. The Chris Waller-trained Autumn Boy brings a strong resume of two wins and a second from three starts and is building a reputation this spring. The colt who beat him last time out, Sixties, looks the likely leader again and retains the services of Rachel King, who controlled the race tempo beautifully last start. Will she attempt the same tactics with added pressure?

Also lining up is Wodeton, another Waller colt and a Golden Slipper runner-up. He reunites with world-class jockey James McDonald and will be looking to turn the tables on Tempted in what shapes as a blockbuster contest.
