Racing returns to the Fairview turf on Friday, with the Friendly Stakes (Race 7) over 1800m the highlight of the eight-race programme. The contest promises an intriguing battle between some well-matched rivals.
Justin Snaith’s Royal Aussie sets the standard. The Royal Mo gelding travelled strongly when beating My Best Shot last time out, only to be caught late by the much-improved Zinovi over 1600m on soft ground. The step up in distance should suit, and with Muzi Yeni retaining the ride, he is fancied to go close despite a slight disadvantage at the weights.
Alan Greeff, who holds a strong hand on the day, saddles both My Best Shot and Golden Peace. The former was finishing well in his latest run and should relish the extra 200m under Richard Fourie. Golden Peace, meanwhile, reeled off three turf victories earlier in the year before a disappointing effort on the Polytrack. That run is best ignored, and he looks a lively contender back on grass with S’manga Khumalo aboard.
Another to note is Lanciafiamme, an improving four-year-old who has won four of 10 starts, including three of his last four. Though stepping up in grade, his progressive profile makes him a fascinating inclusion.
Earlier on the card, Greeff unveils some exciting prospects. Unbeaten Grade 1 winner Direct Hit lines up in Race 2, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m, where she faces older opposition for the first time but is expected to extend her perfect record to five. In Race 4, the What A Winter filly Sports Fan moves into handicap company after a stylish win over Danish Dynamite and could prove well ahead of the assessor.
With established stars and rising talents on show, Friday’s Fairview meeting offers competitive and high-quality action.
