Class can prevail in the Speedsters Stakes

Trainer Alan Greeff 练马师格林福

A field of eight runners lines up for the feature race at Fairview this Friday, and trainer Alan Greeff saddles two of them.

Spearheading his duo in Race 6, the Speedsters Stakes over 1000m, is class act Fairy Knight. This Global View gelding has won half of his 20 starts and finished runner-up five times. The five-year-old looked just in need of his latest outing when finishing second behind stable companion Mercantour over 1200m on the Polytrack.

Fairy Knight has a powerful finish once he hits his stride, and he was unlucky not to score that day.

It is a brave choice by Greeff to target this race, given that most of Fairy Knight’s wins have come over longer distances. Notably, the only time he ran over 1000m he finished third.

Stablemate Cliff Top is very speedy and broke a long losing run when scoring in May over this same course and distance. Allowed a soft lead that day, he never looked like being caught, and his connections will be hoping for more of the same.

If he can get them to fly early, it could also set the race up for Fairy Knight.

Earlier on the card there are two maidens who look ready to strike. Trainer Leon Lotz, who operates off a limited budget and doesn’t have many winners each season, saddles filly Shori Kai.

She ran a cracker on debut when third behind Haze And Smoke over 1400m at Fairview, finishing strongly late in the race. That form has already been boosted as the runner-up won easily next time out. Shori Kai runs in Race 2, a Maiden Plate over 1400m.

A race later, the four-year-old gelding Bomber Bay could also prove a bit better than the rivals he faces and is another worth punting in this Maiden Plate over 1600m.
