There are several attractive betting propositions at the midweek Vaal fixture on Tuesday 2 September, including a handful of last-start winners whose progress it could pay to follow on the eight-race card.
Tony Peter-trained filly Paris Fun is the first of the recent scorers likely to follow up on her reappearance in Race 2 over 1400m, the same course and distance over which she opened her account as a two-year-old nine weeks ago. This improving daughter of Futura beat older rivals in her final outing as a juvenile and she remains open to any amount of further progress on her seasonal (handicap) debut.
Mano Pandaram’s lightly raced Western Wishes was an authoritative winner over 1160m on the Standside track at Turffontein last month and the six-year-old mare, even under a three-point penalty, is well placed to follow up in Race 4 over 1600m.
She tries the extended trip for the first time in her career but this daughter of What A Winter could have more to offer stretching out to this distance, especially with the aid of her apprentice rider’s 4kg weight allowance.
Consistent Futurewolff returns to the scene (course and distance) of his last-start success in Race 5 over 1800m and Heather Adamson’s hard-knocking Futura gelding will likely make another bold bid for victory under a three-point penalty with Raymond Danielson again in the irons.
Promising three-year-old Step Into It is an exciting prospect from the Mike and Mathew de Kock stable and the Elusive Fort gelding could have bigger targets on his agenda should he emerge from Race 7 with the win on his handicap debut over 2000m.
Step Into It confirmed the promise of his debut fourth over 1600m by running on strongly to shed his maiden tag over the same distance 16 days ago. On the evidence of that performance, the extra 400m will hold no fears for the De Kock charge who has most scope for improvement of the 11 runners in the race.
Thriving Teo Torriatte has been transformed by the addition of cheekpieces, winning four of her five starts with the headgear fitted. Corrie Lensley’s runner completed a hat-trick of wins when successful over 2000m on the Standside track at Turffontein last month off a career-high mark, and another five-point rise for that victory is unlikely to halt her momentum in Race 8 over the same distance.
