SLTC at the Forefront of Racing in Southeast Asia

Staying true to the vision of “Racing Towards Global Excellence,” the Selangor Turf Club embarked on bold initiatives throughout 2024 and has set the stage for greater progress in 2025.

Speaking at the Club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 26 June 2025, Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Richard Cham Hak Lim reported that, following the closure of Singapore Turf Club and Macau Jockey Club, the Club has undertaken numerous initiatives to meet the expectation of the racing fraternity and to grow the industry further, positioning the Club at the forefront of thoroughbred racing in Southeast Asia.

He informed the meeting that, among the initiatives are :-

  1. The introduction of the Racing Enhancement Fund (REF) for the 2025 season with total prize money increased from RM17.3 million in 2024 to RM31.0 million in 2025. Horse Owners, Trainers and Jockeys enjoy greater benefit with increased prize money distribution to owners from 37% to 43%, rise in trainers and jockeys take-outs from 5% to 6% while jockeys also enjoy bonus upgrade from RM300 to RM500 per race.

A key milestone in this initiative is the Club’s new collaboration with the Korea Racing Authority (KRA), with simulcast races commenced on May 16, 2025. This strategic move enhances Club’s offering by bringing world-class racing excitement to Malaysian audiences while expanding its global presence in the thoroughbred racing industry.
  3. For the safety, consistencies and competitiveness of the horse racing sports, re-turfing project will be carried out in July 2025 on the inside 10 metre of main turf track, from 450m mark to 1250m mark on the short course, measuring total area 8,000m2 (i.e. 800m x 10m).
  4. The Club received funding from Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia (LTM) to upgrade the stable facilities to meet the increasing needs of the equine population.
  5. In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint, improve operational efficiency and lower electricity consumption, the Club has embarked in launching a solar energy project. This initiative aligns with the Club’s broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, reinforcing a responsible and forward-thinking approach to its operations.
  6. The Club plans to expand its offerings by developing an integrated complex featuring pickleball courts, badminton courts, and food courts. This initiative aims to position the Club as a premier lifestyle destination, combining horse racing, sporting events, and leisure activities under one roof.
