It is turf racing at Fairview on Friday and it is an interesting clash between trainers Gavin Smith and Alan Greeff throughout the meeting.
Smith can start the meeting with a victory, as his colt Ready has improved with each run. The speedy Red Ray gelding found only one too good on debut and was quick to get off the mark with a first success, achieved in his second start when he slammed stable companion Supreme Judge by 4.25 lengths. That runner has since gone on to win a race, and the form is holding up well.
Ready was next seen in a decent field and was not disgraced when finishing fourth behind unbeaten star Anotherdanceforme. His experience could be the telling factor this time as his main rival in the race, filly North Star, was impressive in her debut win.
Seven-year-old gelding Bingwa has now won nine races, including his last two starts. He returned from a break to win a Pinnacle Stakes over this course and distance (1600m), beating Mhlabeni by 0.50 lengths. He should strip fitter this time and is well weighted to win this race comfortably if running anywhere near his merit rating.
Cliff Top returned to his best and was a very easy winner on the Polytrack last time out. He could follow up and take out Race 7, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1000m. He does, however, take on a very good gelding in the form of Kingdundee.
The last race at Fairview is usually a nightmare for punters, but Coastal Path should go close to winning it this week. The Global View gelding is not an easy ride and has often found one or two better on the day. He has, however, been very good over this course and distance lately, and jockey Richard Fourie knows how to bring out the best in him.
