RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: DURBANVILLE@2024.09.10

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R110.000, 12:40GMT+2

Race Summary: FENCING CAPTAIN was denied in a close call last week. He is going about it the right way and with the champion jockey up should have every chance. But it is competitive. PEREGRINE FALCON caught the eye in his debut appearance but then had things go wrong in his next start. He has been off for a while but could be anything now. Things didn’t go to plan for GALACTUS on the Polytrack last time but his previous run was decent. He is speedy and could take full advantage from gate No 1. The two first-timers, CORK BAY and MILITARY MESSENGER, are well bred and need to be watched.

Selections:

#4 Fencing Captain, #2 Peregrine Falcon, #1 Galactus, #3 Cork Bay

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R85.000, 13:15GMT+2

Race Summary: More first-timers in the hunt including HONOR OF KINGS, a Vercingetorix half-brother to champion Princess Calla and MARINE MERCHANT, a half-brother to Gold Bracelet winner Red Palace, so if anything, this will be an exciting race to watch! MYSTIC MAJESTY has shown potential and the pace required to go all the way. He tends to over-race but this could be the right race for him. TWENTYTWENTYVISION and UNSUNG HERO have run some decent races but have not been blessed in the barrier-draw department. Still, both have earning potential.

Selections:

#6 Mystic Majesty, #9 Honor Of Kings, #8 Twentytwentyvision, #10 Unsung Hero

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R85.000, 13:50GMT+2

Race Summary: I’M SO PRITTY only found one better last time but has drawn well again and could go on to score. She rates the best of the raced runners but again there are well-bred newcomers who could make it interesting. Stablemate TAP SHOES (drawn well) is a half-sister to Graded performers and Aussie import BERRY’S BOOGIE could be the ones to attract betting support. COLD BREEZE hasn’t shown much but may have needed time to mature. She could come out stronger after a rest. BRIGHT GOLD hasn’t been far off and can get into the money.

Selections:

#3 I’m So Pritti, #6 Berry’s Boogie, #2 Tap Shoes, #5 Cold Breeze

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R110.000, 14:25GMT+2

Race Summary: TUSCAN ROMANCE showed good promise, finishing second in her two starts last season, and is the one to watch. She is racing after a rest but could go very well with improvement sure to come. CHAMPAGNE KISSES is also bred to go the distance and is getting better with each start. GOLDEN ANGEL caught the eye on debut. She finished well, giving signs she could be even better over 1400m. NIGHT IN JAPAN met winners last time and didn’t disgrace herself. DOUBLE DASH has also shown potential and could get into the money.

Selections:

#6 Champagne Kisses, #5 Golden Angel, #4 Tuscan Romance, #1 Night In Japan

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 15:03GMT+2

Race Summary: SPIRIT’S UNITE found one better in his last two and is knocking hard at the door for his second win. He switches to Durbanville and will need to get going at the right time from the widest stall. AUGUSTA BLUE came in for betting support in his last two and did hit the front before running out of steam last time. He could get closer. GOLD INDEX’s last run is best forgotten. He is patently better than that and having drawn better could get a better run in transit. UNSOLVED RIDDLE did better coming from off the pace and can be included along with CHAMPAGNE MAC and LIKETHECLAPPERS.

Selections:

#8 Spirit’s Unite, #6 Augusta Blue, #5 Gold Index, #4 Unsolved Riddle

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R135.000, 15:37GMT+2

Race Summary: With a change of tactics HOLDING THUMBS has been revitalised. He has won two on the bounce and could make it three in a row racing near the front. But another handy type, FUTURE TURN, ran a good second last time and is returning to best form. They could fight it out. INFRARED, who wasn’t far behind FUTURE TURN after a rest, could get a lot closer. He is a useful sort with wins to come. SALVATOR MUNDI appeared unlucky not to win last time. Along with NAVAL STRENGTH his merit rating has dropped and he could be dangerous.

Selections:

#8 Holding Thumbs, #7 Future Turn, #5 Infrared, #3 Salvator Mundi

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R120.000, 16:15GMT+2

Race Summary: POLYNOMIAL came from too far back last time with her rider reporting his mount felt uncomfortable. She ran a decent race and perhaps if the going comes up good she will make further improvement. MARITZBURG MEMORY wasn’t far behind when also not enjoying it and having drawn well needs to be considered. IN THE GREEN ZONE finished ahead of the pair and could confirm. She is a lot better than her last run when slow off from a wide gate. ELIZABETH GRACE and JOU LEKKER DING won their maidens without a fuss and are open to improvement. GREAT CAT is as honest as they come.

Selections:

#3 Polynomial, #4 In The Green Zone, #8 Great Cat, #7 Elizabeth Grace

Durbanville, 10.09.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R85.000, 16:48GMT+2

Race Summary: HANG OUT THE STARS has been battling to get back into the winner’s enclosure. But after a decent last effort she could get the job done as she looks well placed. JET GREEN is another that is overdue. Still a maiden, this filly has run some decent races but also needs to get her timing right. TRUE HORIZON gave signs she could be ready to open her account as well last time. BENEATH THE MOON won a nice race and with her confidence boosted could be the one to catch. Most can get into the picture in the last.

Selections:

#3 Hang Out The Stars, #2 Jet Green, #7 True Horizon, #5 Beneath The Moon

Best Win: #3 I’M SO PRITTI

Best Value Bet: #3 POLYNOMIAL

Best Longshot: #3 POLYNOMIAL
