Kenilworth Preview – 3 August

RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: KENILWORTH@2024.08.03

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 12:25GMT+2

Race Summary: LA PULGA showed promise in both starts up the straight as a 2yo and, on pedigree, this extended trip should be more to his liking. Lightly raced older rival TERMINATOR got his career back on track with an encouraging last start over track and trip, so should play a leading role with further improvement. MIND MAP, EXPRESS YOURSELF and COSMIC RHYTHM are also likely to make progress stepping up to this distance. GIVETHATMANABELLS is awkwardly positioned in the starting stalls but has the form and experience to make his presence felt.

Selections:

#3 La Pulga, #9 Terminator, #4 Mind Map, #14 Givethatmanabells

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R135.000, 13:00GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race for a field this size. ENEMY TERRITORY won a similar contest over this course and distance last time out, beating FUN ZONE, MONASHADA, SCHOOL POLICY as well as stablemate PRINCESS IZZY, all of whom are weighted to turn the tables on these revised terms. KNOCKOUT has scope to improve in her first go at this distance and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Selections:

#3 Princess Izzy, #6 Enemy Territory, #5 Knockout, #7 Monashada

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1100m, Turf, R165.000, 13:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. Highly regarded FUTURE VARIETY has taken his game/form to another level after gelding. He has won once, finished 3rd twice and 2nd three times – including a 1200m Grade 2 last time – in 6 starts since he was ‘cut’ and, with the likelihood of further improvement on his return from a 161-day absence, could make a winning reappearance under favourable conditions. RIVERSTONE is relatively unexposed and is another with scope for improvement on his comeback from a 5-month rest so could also prove better than rated. WE’RE JAMMING, SILVER FALCON and SPEED MACHINE will keep them honest.

Selections:

#8 Future Variety, #1 Riverstone, #7 King Regent, #4 We’Re Jamming

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R135.000, 14:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. FUTURE PRINCE bounced back to form with an encouraging 3rd in a minor feature over 1600m in his last start when fitted with a tongue-tie for the first time. He needs only to confirm the form and improvement of that performance, off an unchanged mark, to fight for victory dropped to this grade. Justin Snaith holds a strong hand with a 4-pronged attack headed by last-start winner INNAMORARE (a course-and-distance specialist). Stablemate MAGIC VERSE has regained form/momentum after a break (and gelding) and should be competitive, while CHARLIE CROKER and SOLAR POWER are also respected.

Selections:

#3 Future Prince, #4 Innamorare, #8 Magic Verse, #10 Solar Power

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R200.000, 14:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky, go wide in the exotics. AUGUSTA BLUE could be in the right place at the right time, drawn well after a drop in the ratings. SPIRIT’S UNITE is in good order and will be rewarded for his consistency sooner rather than later. GOLD INDEX won isn’t incapable of following up if he makes the right moves from a wide gate, while UNSOLVED RIDDLE showed signs last time that he could have a say too. LIKETHECLAPPERS didn’t shape with a tongue-tie fitted last time and shouldn’t be hastily condemned. VERONIQUE and CATTALEYA renew rivalry with the former likely to turn the tables on these terms. Open!

Selections:

#3 Liketheclappers, #9 Spirit’s Unite, #1 Veronique, #12 Cattaleya

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R200.000, 15:20GMT+2

Race Summary: ROYAL LYTHAM showed good pace when winning fluently last time and seems capable of following up under a penalty. TRES CHIC didn’t go unnoticed when running on well to finish on the heels of that rival and could pose a threat if confirming/building on that improvement. ON BOARD is also capable of a better showing with blinkers refitted. TRIED AND TRUE, RED MOON RISING, GRUE OF ICE, as well as WHY NOT JACKIE are all livewires with upset potential. Go wide!

Selections:

#7 Royal Lytham, #9 Tres Chic, #13 On Board, #15 Grue Of Ice

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R200.000, 15:55GMT+2

Race Summary: The Winter Country Championship Finals are wide-open contests and bets like Trifectas, Quartets and even Exactas look attractive betting propositions. SOOTY has every chance of revisiting the No 1 box if confirming/building on the improvement of an encouraging last start (when an unlucky, close-up 3rd over track and trip). Hard-knocker ALL ABOUT AL (headgear removed), capable MIGHTY MAC, and LUNCH MONEY, who will strip fitter after a pleasing comeback outing, also have legitimate ambitions. NIGHT BOMBER, NIGHT TIGER, SHIFTING PATH and GREAT CAT will have their supporters too. Doesn’t end there!

Selections:

#2 Sooty, #12 Lunch Money, #1 All About Al, #8 Night Tiger

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R200.000, 16:30GMT+2

Race Summary: ICE RAIN is in the race as the best-weighted runner so needs to be respected, especially over this extended trip with the blinkers removed. NAUSHON has drawn widest but that suits his running style – he will be on the scene late. OZARK and KING PELLES showed encouraging signs last time and ought to make their presence felt. BATON ROUGE is dangerous from the front and will be hard to peg back if allowed to lead without pressure. PRIME VENTURE, however, is progressive and impressed last time with a last-to-first win over 1600m. He’ll be better suited to this distance so is good value to follow up.

Selections:

#8 Prime Venture, #5 Ozark, #2 King Pelles, #10 Naushon

Kenilworth, 03.08.2024, Race 9, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R120.000, 17:05GMT+2

Race Summary: RADICCHIO, MY BESTIE, DIAMOND ROCK and FLY FUTURA are all engaged to run at an earlier meeting so their inclusion/participation could be in doubt – if taking their place, they could fight out the finish. If not, BARDOLINO could take advantage of their absence from gate No 1, after failing to land a blow from a wide draw last time. HOLDING THUMBS, KWITE A KING and AZZURRI are lightly raced 4yo’s with scope to improve so shouldn’t be underestimated. GREENLAND and ROYAL WATCH have place prospects.

Selections:

#12 Fly Futura, #3 My Bestie, #2 Radicchio, #1 Bardolino

Best Win: #8 PRIME VENTURE

Best Value Bet: #7 ROYAL LYTHAM

Best Longshot: #7 ROYAL LYTHAM
