RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: KENILWORTH@2024.06.18
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R135.000, 12:15GMT+2
Race Summary: Well-bred ROCCAPINA was fancied on debut and ran accordingly to finish a promising 2nd over track and trip. She would’ve come on appreciably with the benefit of that experience and it should pay to follow her progress. STU’S GIRL has shown enough to play a role in the finish, though a bigger threat could come from one of the newcomers – the market should provide a guide to their chances. Before any betting clues, LOVE STORY and LOTUS ISLAND are worth keeping an eye on given their attractive pedigrees.
Selections:
#12 Roccapina, #10 Love Story, #11 Stu’s Girl, #6 Lotus Island
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R135.000, 12:50GMT+2
Race Summary: Good race. SUMMER SNOW and BILLY COOL are improving sorts likely to play leading roles if building on their encouraging last starts. IKO IKO is open to improvement on his return from a rest/gelding so shouldn’t be underestimated either. Both NOBLE HERO and RHYTHM KING showed enough on debut to suggest they could also have a say in the finish with that experience to count on. Newcomers UMHLANGA, PINOT GRIGIO and CITY OF PORT LOUIS are worth monitoring and must be respected, especially if the market speaks in their favour.
Selections:
#9 Summer Snow, #10 Billy Cool, #6 Umhlanga, #12 Iko Iko
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R135.000, 13:25GMT+2
Race Summary: Tricky. CORAL BLAZE went forward and PENTOLINA was dropped out from their wide draws over this trip last time when both finished behind GREENLIGHT SKYE, who enjoyed the run of the race from an inside starting stall. They’re closely matched on that form and there shouldn’t be much separating the trio in this rematch. Well-bred rivals GREENLITEALLTHEWAY and ONE GIANT LEAP should improve with the step up in trip, so could make their presence felt.
Selections:
#3 Pentolina, #6 Greenlight Skye, #4 Coral Blaze, #11 One Giant Leap
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 14:00GMT+2
Race Summary: SONG TO THE MOON has run 2 eye-catching races since returning from a rest/gelding. He finished a good 2nd over this trip last time, despite legitimate excuses, and need only repeat that performance to open his account. Fillies FUTURE STAR, GIMMETHELIMELIGHT and LOOK FORWARD receive chunks of weight from that rival and possess the form and experience to pose a threat. TERMINATOR and BLAME IT ON ME complete the shortlist.
Selections:
#6 Song To The Moon, #5 Gimmethelimelight, #13 Look Forward, #8 Terminator
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1950m, Turf, R85.000, 14:35GMT+2
Race Summary: Wide open. JACK IN THE GREEN and AMANCIO have improved to finish 2nd recently and are likely to play leading roles once more if building on that progress. STATE CAPITOL and ETOILEFILLANTE also filled the runners-up berth in their recent outings, so have obvious claims too. FRENCH TRIP, GOLDEN GREY, POINTDEXTER and MIDWAY have shown enough to be competitive under these conditions and shouldn’t be discounted. JOVIAL and KWITE A KING aren’t without chances either. Tricky!
Selections:
#8 Jack In The Green, #2 French Trip, #9 Amancio, #7 Golden Grey
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R120.000, 15:10GMT+2
Race Summary: COULDITBE beat 8 re-opposing rivals when winning a similar contest from the front last time and she ought to remain competitive, despite a resultant 4-point penalty. PLUM PUDDING, BASIC MANEUVERS and HELIOTROPE are better off at the weights so they could turn the tables on these revised terms. GREEN ISLE, LICKETY SPLIT and SUMMER NIGHT CITY are also weighted to pose more of a threat. ETERNAL OPTIMIST acquitted herself well against male opposition last time so is dangerous to discount back against her own sex.
Selections:
#9 Plum Pudding, #6 Basic Maneuvers, #5 Coulditbe, #10 Heliotrope
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 15:45GMT+2
Race Summary: LIKETHECLAPPERS, SPIRIT’S UNITE and GOLD INDEX renew rivalry having finished in that order over this trip in a similar contest last month. They are closely matched on that form and there shouldn’t be much separating the trio on these identical weight terms. Improving last-start winner BANK STREET is a 2yo with the most scope for improvement, especially over this extended trip that he’s bred to enjoy. HANG OUT THE STARS, class-dropper JUST VAR and hard-knocker FLY TO RIO are others to consider for exotic-bet purposes. Go wide!
Selections:
#5 Spirit’s Unite, #12 Liketheclappers, #6 Gold Index, #13 Bank Street
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 16:25GMT+2
Race Summary: Good race for a field this size. Last-start winners CHARLENE and LITTLE MISS PINK ought to remain competitive but will need to improve to follow up. QHAWEKAZI is unbeaten over this distance and, even under top-weight of 61.5kg, ought to play a leading role dropped in class. GLEE CLUB and GO LIKE FLO are consistent fillies who have proven competitive off their current marks – they’re closely matched on recent form. Both should have a say in the outcome, though the value in the race may lie with MIA’S HARPER who has dropped to a dangerous mark in the ratings and could be looking for this distance.
Selections:
#6 Mia’s Harper, #4 Go Like Flo, #8 Qhawekazi, #1 Glee Club
Kenilworth, 18.06.2024, Race 9, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R120.000, 17:00GMT+2
Race Summary: Another tricky Class 4. ESCARPMENT confirmed the improvement of his previous outing by winning a similar contest over track and trip last time, and a 4-point penalty may not be enough to halt his momentum. Re-opposing rivals MIGHTY MAC (1.5kg) and ALL ABOUT AL (2.5kg) are weighted to pose more of a threat. BEERENBERG caught the eye with an improved last start at a higher level so must be respected off a reduced mark. GO IT ALONE, TRIPPI’S SILK, SOOTY and HOODIA are capable of getting involved too. Returning stablemates LUNCH MONEY and COUNTER ATTACK shouldn’t be underestimated either. Go wide!
Selections:
#9 Escarpment, #10 Mighty Mac, #2 All About Al, #13 Beerenberg
Best Win: #6 SONG TO THE MOON
Best Value Bet: #6 MIA’S HARPER
Best Longshot: #6 MIA’S HARPER
