Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R90.000, 12:00GMT+2

Race Summary: Youngster OXALIS GOLD has finished 2nd in both outings over shorter distances and needn’t improve a great deal over this extended trip to open her account. Fellow 2yo MESSALINA has both the form and experience to acquit herself competitively. However, a bigger threat is likely to come from older rivals RAINBOW RIVER and THE CROWN who have shown enough to play leading roles. CITY LIGHTS completes the shortlist.

Selections:

#7 Oxalis Gold, #1 Rainbow River, #5 The Crown, #6 Messalina

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R90.000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. KAROO GOLD fluffed his lines over 2000m last time but is capable of a forward showing over this distance on the strength and consistency of his earlier form. AMERICAN REBEL and 2yo rival PANNING GOLD improved to finish 2nd when stepping up to this trip last time and are likely to fight out the finish if building on that progress. Both TROMBETTISTA and GIMMEACHOICE could make similar improvement over this distance to make their presence felt.

Selections:

#2 American Rebel, #9 Panning Gold, #1 Karoo Gold, #8 Gimmeachoice

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R80.000, 13:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Open. MASTERSHIP finished behind GOLDEN PAVILION in a 1450m maiden but has improved since gelded so could avenge that defeat. The latter is, however, better off on these weight terms. MOCHA FRAPPE improved in first-time blinkers to open his account over 1400m and should on pedigree, have more to offer over this extended trip. Debut winner MISS SCALETTA won’t start 75-1 again and with the benefit of that experience, could confirm the promise of her introduction with a competitive showing against older male rivals despite her tricky No 10 draw. MOUNT DARWIN and IRISH LOVE have claims.

Selections:

#4 Mastership, #6 Golden Pavilion, #9 Mocha Frappe, #11 Miss Scaletta

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R120.000, 13:45GMT+2

Race Summary: BINGWA returned to winning ways in a similar contest over this distance on the Standside track last time and on the evidence of that impressive victory, could break his duck on the Inside track. LADY OF POWER is the best-weighted runner in the race and should be competitive on these terms, though a bigger threat is likely to be posed by FOREVER MINE after an encouraging return to form in his last start. EYE OF THE PROPHET and MUJBAR are held on that form. SCALLYWAG has thrived since moving to the Highveld to join Tony Peter’s stable and could improve to make his presence felt too.

Selections:

#1 Bingwa, #3 Forever Mine, #7 Scallywag, #6 Lady Of Power

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R100.000, 14:20GMT+2

Race Summary: Tricky. Stablemates SPECIAL CHARM and I AM REGAL are consistent at this level and closely matched on recent form. There is also collateral form with ROSY LEMON, who carries a penalty for a last-start success. A PLACE IN THE SUN won a shallow staying event last time but has improved fitted with cheekpieces and should remain competitive under her penalty. KADIZORA wasn’t disgraced in the Listed Oaks Trial and is open to improvement after a freshen-up. SAY IT WITH ROSES benefited from the fitting of a tongue-tie to open her account last time. It could pay to follow her progress on that evidence.

Selections:

#10 Say It With Roses, #4 Special Charm, #7 A Place In The Sun, #5 I Am Regal

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1800m, Turf, R80.000, 14:55GMT+2

Race Summary: DIMAKO’S JET caught the eye when staying on to finish 3rd in a handicap at a higher level over this distance on the Standside track and could be hard to beat off a reduced mark and eased in grade with Richard Fourie engaged. CRIMSON FOREST has also been eased in the ratings having maintained form and consistency recently, so ought to acquit herself competitively too. Last-start course-and-distance winner PASCHALS SAMORE is 1.5kg worse off with 3rd-place finisher DAMOVA (for 1.60 lengths) and is drawn wide but does have the gate speed to overcome it. RED KNOT and SUMMERLAND are others to note.

Selections:

#1 Dimako’s Jet, #3 Crimson Forest, #5 Paschals Samore, #6 Damova

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1450m, Turf, R200.000, 15:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Wide-open Listed race. PRESLEY will appreciate this shorter trip after trying his luck in the Grade 1 SA Derby over 2450m. He is, however, unfavourably drawn which also applies to PLATINA PRINCESS and returning COMMAND PILOT. A return to this distance should also suit both EMPORIUM and MAX THE MAGICIAN, who shouldn’t be discounted after a recent gelding operation. Debut winner SABRE STRIKE finished an eye-catching 2nd on his reappearance and ought to progress having tightened up since. WARHAWK BOMBER has obvious claims on form, while THAT’S MY BABY isn’t without a chance on her reappearance.

Selections:

#7 Sabre Strike, #1 Presley, #12 Two Miles West, #6 Warhawk Bomber

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1450m, Turf, R100.000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Good race. Mike de Kock is doubly represented and, while GOOD QUEEN BESS is an obvious contender under top weight with Richard Fourie aboard, preference is for stablemate WOMAN OF POWER whose pedigree suggests this extended trip will be more to her liking. ALABAMA ANNA boasts solid recent form over this distance and at this level, so she ought to be competitive along with VIX PRINCESS who has made an encouraging start to life on the Highveld. JUST BE LEKKER and CAPE LIGHTS are better at the weights with that rival so are capable of getting into the picture too.

Selections:

#5 Woman Of Power, #6 Alabama Anna, #2 Vix Princess, #4 Cape Lights

Turffontein Inside, 12.05.2024, Race 9, Gallops, 1450m, Turf, R80.000, 16:40GMT+2

Race Summary: SOUND MACHINE shouldn’t be written off after a disappointing last start, having won impressively over track and trip in her previous outing. ALPHABETTY is favourably drawn and could surprise off a reduced mark with blinkers refitted. POMOZELOUS returns from a lengthy absence but did show promise before the layoff, so cannot be underestimated. CEUTA, a wide-margin maiden winner over 1600m, is likely to improve with experience so ought to remain competitive over this shorter distance despite a wide draw. SAHARA DAWN, another 3yo filly likely to improve, and consistent COURAGEOUS have roles to play.

Selections:

#4 Ceuta, #9 Sahara Dawn, #3 Pomozelous, #7 Courageous

Best Win: #1 DIMAKO’S JET

Best Value Bet: #10 SAY IT WITH ROSES

Best Longshot: #10 SAY IT WITH ROSES
