Race Preview

R1 – PRIX DU CERFOUILLET – 2400m (a1m1/2) – TURF – Handicap – Flat – EUR € 25,000

1. MANDARB – Made a winning reappearance over 1950m at Le Mans on 11 March in his first start
on turf. Could prove a lot better than his opening handicap mark with improvement on the cards
2. CALON LAN – A relatively consistent performer with the most experience of the runners in this
lineup and that will stand him in good stead. Runner-up in a 1900m PSF claimer at Deauville on 9
April – not taken lightly on his handicap debut
3. ATRANI – Won on debut over 1600m at La Teste-de-Buch in her only two-year-old appearance
(2 September) and finished 4th in consecutive comeback outings before a last-start 12th in a 1900m
PSF Quinte+ here on 28 March. Can’t be written off
4. QUE BELLA – Made a successful trip to Argentan on 11 April, winning over 2500m on yielding
ground. Should have a role to play here on her handicap debut
5. MIA MAN – Caught the eye in back-to-back PSF outings recently over 2150m at Lyon-La Soie,
the latest on 6 April when finishing a good 2nd. Lacks references on turf but warrants respect all
the same
6. VAMOS LUIGI – An improving last-start winner at Senonnes on his handicap debut over 2100m
on 14 April. Should remain competitive under a resultant 3kg penalty
7. EL KALBITO – Runner-up in consecutive 2000m PSF outings at Pau late last year but unplaced
in both comeback appearances on turf this year – the latest (6th) in a 2100m conditions race at
Toulouse on 8 April. Could do better pitched into a handicap
8. ADORABLE – Finished an encouraging 3rd over 2000m on his handicap debut at Saint-Cloud
early last month but failed to confirm that form/improvement when only 7th in a 2500m handicap at
Evereux on 24 April. Needs to reaffirm
9. VAL DE SEINE – Has placed once in six outings and achieved that (2nd) in the claiming category
over 1900m on the PSF. Was soundly beaten (9th) on handicap debut over 2150m on the turf at
Cagnes on 25 February – can be ruled out

Summary: VAMOS LUIGI (6) was an encouraging winner of his handicap debut and, on the
evidence of that performance, seems capable of defying his 3kg penalty by following up in this
opening event. QUE BELLA (4), herself a last-start winner, and MANDARB (1), who ought to benefit
from his rider’s 2,5kg weight allowance, could pose a threat in their first handicap appearances.
CALON LAN (2), another handicap newcomer, is also likely to acquit himself competitively.

SELECTIONS
VAMOS LUIGI (6) – QUE BELLA (4) – MANDARB (1) – CALON LAN (2)

R2 – PRIX DE LA COMPAGNIE EQUESTRE – 1600m (a1m) – ALL WEATHER – Class 3 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 22,000

1. J’ACCLAME – Won a course-and-distance handicap in January but has finished unplaced in 3
subsequent starts, including her latest (13th) over track and trip on 30 March. Others preferred
2. LE ROCKEUR – At the top of his game and continues to push his limits, winning back-to-back
PSF handicaps including over track and trip two starts back. Penalised another 3,5kg for winning
over 1400m at Deauville on 10 April – has more to do
3. SPOTLIGHT – Won over 1500m on this course in February and his handicap debut (12th) over
1800m at Lyon-La Soie was too bad to be true. Not taken lightly
4. SEIGNEUR – Disappointed (9th) in a 1900m PSF handicap at Deauville on 9 April but will prefer
this distance and is confirmed at this venue. High on the shortlist
5. BLANC BLEU – Consistent, versatile handicapper with sound references/form credentials,
including a last-start 3rd over 1800m at Salon-de-Provence on heavy ground last month (3 April).
Dark horse
6. LA BOMBASSE – Lightly raced filly with sufficient means to stake a claim in a race of this nature
on her reappearance. Absent since finishing 3rd over 1700m at Pornichet on 10 December
7. RISING UP – Has references at this level and in the Quinte+ category off higher marks but has
lost his way, though continues to drop in the weights/ratings as a result. Finished 16th over 1600m
at ParisLongchamp on 14 April – watch for now
8. BOZZO – Has achieved his best references on this surface in the claiming category. Showed his
limitations in the handicaps recently (finished 9th over 1600m at ParisLongchamp on 14 April) and
is best watched for now
9. HARTWOOD MAN – Hard-knocking handicapper with sound references/form credentials. Didn’t
go unnoticed when finishing 6th in a 1600m turf handicap at ParisLongchamp on 14 April – keep
safe
10. AL KHAMSIN – Winner at Quinte+ level in August 2023 but has struggled (finished unplaced)
ever since. Has dropped below his last-winning mark but is best watched for now after a modest
10th in a 1200m turf handicap here on 15 April
11. KINGSFOLD – Last-start winner of a course-and-distance handicap on 30 March. Ought to
remain competitive despite a resultant 3kg penalty
12. BIG DRIFT – Consistent performer, especially on the PSF, albeit without success. Has already
proven his competitiveness in the handicaps off this mark – has to be respected after an
encouraging last-start 3rd here over 1400m on 24 February
13. DRUIDE – He has already shown his aptitude/efficiency on the PSF, especially at this venue
and represents an in-form jockey and trainer combination. Respected on handicap debut after a
pleasing 5th over 1400m at Saint-Cloud on 5 April
14. PRESOMPTION – Consistent in conditions races and debuts in the handicaps off a competitive
opening mark with the benefit of his apprentice rider’s 2,5kg allowance. Candidate for success after
finishing 6th over 1400m at this venue in February                                                                        15. NARCISSUS – Non Partant
16. ROMANTIC ROSE – Boasts references in the handicap/Quinte+ category off higher marks but
has been off the boil for some time now. Others are preferred after a last-start 9th in a course-anddistance handicap on 30 March
17. HERNAN CORTES – Returned to form with an encouraging last start (3rd) in a 1900m PSF
handicap at Deauville on 9 April. Needs to confirm that improvement to have a say here

Summary: LE ROCKEUR (2) is at the top of his game but has shot up the weights/ratings having
won back-to-back handicaps including over track and trip two starts back. He is also poorly
positioned in stall No 17, so is worth opposing under these conditions. SEIGNEUR (4) returns to
his favorite course after a lackluster performance at Deauville and is marginally preferred ahead of
PRESOMPTION (14), who should acquit himself competitively given his rider’s 2,5kg weight
allowance. BIG DRIFT (12), a regular at this level, and HARTWOOD MAN (9) complete the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
SEIGNEUR (4) – PRESOMPTION (14) – LE ROCKEUR (2) – BIG DRIFT (12)

R3 – PRIX DE SURESNES – 2000m (a1m1/4) – TURF – Listed Race – Flat – EUR € 55,000

1. SAGANTI – Revealed considerable means in four starts as a two-year-old last season (finished
2nd in a Group III) and caught the eye on his reappearance when 4th in an 1800m Group III on
heavy ground at ParisLongchamp on 7 April. Keep safe
2. WAHDAN – Confirmed the promise of his debut 2nd over 1900m on the PSF at Deauville with a
winning reappearance over 1900m on the PSF at this venue on 18 March. Open to improvement
in his first outing on turf
3. DOLLAR INDEX – Runner-up on debut on PSF over 1500m at Deauville and has built on that
promise by winning both starts this year. On his reappearance over 1900m at Deauville and in his
first outing on turf over 1900m at Bordeaux on 1 April – contender
4. WILL SCARLET – Highly rated Godolphin-owned Masar colt. Returned from a lengthy absence
to win an 1800m Class 2 conditions event from the front on this course last month (15 April) and
should have more to offer given the step up to this distance
5. FAST TRACKER – Wide-margin winner of a Class 2 conditions race over 2000m at Saint-Cloud
on 7 March. Relished the step up to this trip on that occasion so cannot be underestimated – not
taken lightly

Summary: A small but good quality field assembled for this three-year-old Listed race. Highly
regarded WILL SCARLET (4) impressed when winning on his reappearance so it could pay to
follow his progress. He gets the nod ahead of DOLLAR INDEX (3) who has already shown his class
and is unbeaten this year after two successful comeback outings. FAST TRACKER (5), one of
three runners bidding to complete a hat-trick of wins, top-rated SAGANTI (1), after an encouraging
reappearance, and last-start winner WAHDAN (2) are also capable of playing a role in the finish.

SELECTIONS
WILL SCARLET (4) – DOLLAR INDEX (3) – FAST TRACKER (5) – SAGANTI (1)

R4 – PRIX DU MUSEE VIVANT DU CHEVAL – 1600m (a1m) – ALL WEATHER – Class 3 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 27,000

1. ALVA – Capable filly with sound references and is ideally positioned in gate No 1, though has a
big weight to carry. Didn’t go unnoticed when 8th in a 1400m Quinte+ handicap on the turf at
Fontainebleau on 2 April – dark horse
2. LAMENTO – Made an encouraging reappearance (3rd) over 1800m on the turf at this venue on
4 April. has references on PSF so is one to keep an eye on
3. CENTRAL PARK WEST – A model of consistency and particularly appreciates this PSF track.
Showed his form and well-being by finishing 3rd over track and trip in a handicap on 30 March –
keep safe
4. NORDESTE – Versatile veteran with sound references/form credentials, including a last-start 4th
over 1600m on turf at Toulouse on 8 April. Candidate for success
5. MOUTARDE – Has demonstrated commendable consistency for several weeks now in
handicaps at this level and is candidate for success here after an encouraging last-start 2nd over
1900m on the PSF at Deauville on 9 April
6. CALAS – Consistent performer in conditions races on this surface but failed to make any
impression in Quinte+ handicaps recently, the latest (11th) over 1900m on the PSF at Deauville on
9 April. Can do better at this level – don’t discount
7. ZOFFWALTZ – Last-start winner of a 1600m turf handicap at Toulouse on 8 April. Has references
on this surface carries a 3kg penalty
8. TERREDEGUERRE – A model of consistency with sound references/form credentials on both
surfaces. Showed her form and well-being by finishing 3rd in a 1400m Quinte+ on turf at
Fontainebleau on 2 April – will go close of overcoming a wide draw
9. HOLLYHOCK – Acquitted himself better than his finishing position (8th) suggests in a courseand-distance handicap on 30 March. Not taken lightly
10. NO LIMIT DREAM – Consistent for the most part but has shown his limitations in Quinte+
handicaps recently, the latest over 1600m at ParisLongchamp on 14 April. Can do better at this
level but for another day, perhaps
11. CHIAREGGIO – Runner-up in consecutive Quinte+ handicap on this course over 1900m late
last year but soundly beaten in both comeback appearances on turf at that level, the latest (14th)
over 2000m at Saint-Cloud on 1 April. Capable on PSF
12. CHOP VAL – Consistent and versatile veteran with sound references/form credentials on both
surfaces, which include an encouraging last-start 4th in a course-and-distance handicap on 30
March. Not taken lightly
13. ABELARD F – Last-start winner of a 1400m PSF handicap at Deauville on 10 April. Races off
a career-high mark under a resultant 2,5kg penalty
14. GOLDENSIM – Didn’t go unnoticed despite finishing 10th in a 1900m Quinté+ at Bordeaux last
time (22 April). Has already proved his competitiveness on this track and seems well placed in the
weights to play a leading role                                                                                                        15. AUCOEURDELANUIT – Soundly beaten (17th) in a course-and-distance handicap on 30 March
off his current mark. Capable of better but is best watched for now
16. O’SSITOT – Won a 1900m claimer on this course in October last year but has lost his way since
and is best watched for now. Finished 14th in a 1900m PSF handicap at Deauville on 9 April
17. APOLLON – Proved her competitiveness off this mark (3kg penalty) by finishing 3rd in a 1900m
PSF handicap at Deauville in her last start on 9 April. Place chance

Summary: Wide open. It could, however, pay to side with GOLDENSIM (14) who is competitively
weighted in this handicap on a course he enjoys. Consistent TERREDEGUERRE (8) is undeniably
capable of playing a leading role but is awkwardly positioned in stall No 15, which also applies to
MOUTARDE (5), another model of consistency unfavourably stationed alongside that rival in gate
No 14. NORDESTE (4), who appreciates this PSF track, CENTRAL PARK WEST (3) are also
candidates for success. HOLLYHOCK (9) is a lively outsider Tricky!

SELECTIONS
GOLDENSIM (14) – TERREDEGUERRE (8) – NORDESTE (4) – MOUTARDE (5)

R5 – PRIX DES CLOSEAUX – 1200m (a6f) – TURF – Newcomers Race – Flat – EUR € 30,000

1. ZOUZAL – Thomas Trullier rides this two-year-old Zelzal colt out of Zoutia for trainer Adelaïde
Budka. Watch the betting for clues
2. FLY HALF – Mikel Delzangles-trained No Nay Never colt out of Fact Finding. Gérald Mossé rides
this well-bred newcomer
3. ALEKSINE – A two-year-old colt by Mehmas out of Al Andalus. Tim Donworth has engaged
Guillaume Trolley de Prevaux to ride
4. NAKED MEMORIES – Two-year-old Mehmas colt out of Miss Cato. Aurélien Lemaitre rides for
Christopher Head who presented the excellent Freville in this race last year
5. DAYLIGHT – This Earthlight filly trained by Patrice Cottier is, as both her sire and dam excelled
as two-year-olds, likely to be forward enough to run well on debut. Cristian Demuro rides
6. LA SAMANA – Goken debutante out of Steel Woman. Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard won this
race last year and has engaged Maxime Guyon to ride this filly who has the genetic profile to
perform well as a youngster
7. OAXACA – Alexis Pouchin rides this daughter of Mehmas out of Orchid Gardens for trainer
Christophe Ferland. Not taken lightly
8. SLAVA OUKRAINI – Mikel Delzangles-trained Wooded debutante who ought to benefit from the
2,5kg allowance of rider Sophie Chuette
9. HONEY STAR – A two-year-old filly by Goken out of Lover’s Moon who is making her debut.
Watch the betting. She was an early foal so is bred to be precocious

Summary: This event for unraced two-year-olds may well be dominated by the fairer sex, given
their 1,5kg sex allowance. DAYLIGHT (5) has a precious pedigree and represents a stable known
for doing well with its youngsters, so she is marginally preferred ahead of well-bred HONEY STAR
(9) and LA SAMANA (6), who Maxime Guyon is engaged to ride. Christopher Head-trained NAKED
MEMORIES (4) makes most appeal of the colts.

SELECTIONS
DAYLIGHT (5) – HONEY STAR (9) – LA SAMANA (6) – NAKED MEMORIES (4)

R6 – PRIX DE LA FRANCILIENNE – 1200m (a6f) – TURF – Class 1 Race – Flat – EUR € 35,000

9 April. Can bounce back to win this shorter distance

break

in a GR.3. at Deauville over 1400m on 9 April. Should fight out the finish

this year when 8th in a Conditions race at Deauville over 1400m on 10 April. Might place
7. LA ROCHETTE – Much improved this year and was a winner last time out of a handicap at
Fontainebleau over this distance on 2 April. Tackles a lot stronger this time

a Conditions race at Moulins over 1000m on 14 April. Tougher task in this line-up

at Chantilly over 1300m on 8 March. Tries the grass but can earn some money
10. DYPTIQUE – Won twice from just four starts last year and she was not disgraced when 5th last
time out in a Conditions race at Deauville over 1400m on 5 November. Could need this run returning
from a break

Summary: Well held in the Group III Prix Djebel, TORTISAMBERT (1) probably did not enjoy the
heavy ground in what was his first attempt on turf. He is worth another chance in this lesser event.
GENTLEMAN BEAUTY (4) has run some good races over this 1200m straight course and can fight
for victory. A Listed winner last year, THE FIXER (5) makes a much-anticipated return to action.,
while lightly raced ZELASQUIN (2) is worth a market check.

up with two Group 3 victories. He is taken to make a successful return to action this season too.
Well held in both starts this term, Group 2 winner GAME RUN (6) is likely to bounce back soon or
later. TERRITORYWAR (1) showed significant progress in his last two runs and could pose a threat
up in grade. PINAFORE (9) posted a solid comeback run recently and is not out of it.
