RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: SCOTTSVILLE@2024.04.14

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R140,000, 12:35GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: QUID PRO QUO (8) was a comfortable winner over course and distance when shedding her maiden. At her penultimate start she was narrowly beaten by Just Reckless who finished runner-up in the Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery last Saturday. However, Richard Fourie has jumped ship to ride WOZA NAWE (3) for Peter Muscutt after she made a promising debut in the soft at Hollywoodbets Greyville and can go one better. HOT LAVA (2) found good market support on debut but was well beaten. It was soft going that day and the winner, Ibhele has since franked that form. ONE PATH (11) showed up well against winners when making her debut and that form has held up well.

Selections:

#8 QUID PRO QUO, #3 WOZA NAWE, #2 HOT LAVA, #11 ONE PATH

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R115,000, 13:10GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Modest line-up but there are a number of first timers in the race so watch the betting. Of those that have run, TERIYAKI (8) has been in the money at his last three starts and with Richard Fourie taking the ride he is the obvious choice. FLYINGCOOL (5) made a promising debut at long odds for Gary Rich and is sure to come on from the experience and could be a threat. LUKHAYF (9) made no show on debut but did find some betting support and can improve with the experience. Of the first timers, FIELD MARSHAL (3) has a smart pedigree and could be one to watch.

Selections:

#8 TERIYAKI, #5 FLYINGCOOL, #9 LUKHAYF, #3 FIELD MARSHAL

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R115,000, 13:45GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Tricky maiden. RUN TO RIO (6) disappointed when taking the turn on the turf for the first time after three good runs over this course and distance. Stuart Ferrie’s runner should be in the mix come the line. The juvenile filly GLAMORZ (2) ran a cracker on the poly last run and was closing fast on the well exposed winner. She has a light weight and must have a big chance. CATS PAJAMAS (10) found some market support on debut and was a creditable third in site of racing green. That run should have brought him on for Frank Robinson. Richard Fourie rides a first timer for Glen Kotzen in MR HOTSTEPPER (7) so any market support should be taken seriously.

Selections:

#6 RUN TO RIO, #2 GLAMORZ, #10 CATS PAJAMAS, #7 MR HOTSTEPPER

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R150,000, 14:20GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Wendy Whitehead’s stable is in good form and she looks to have picked the right race for BEECHAMWOOD BOY (10). He is over his favourite course and distance with a light weight and under the weight conditions he is very well in. GOOD TRAVELLER (7) is also nicely in at the weights and Richard Fourie rides for Michael Roberts. The gelding had a tough draw around the Greyville turn last time out. TEFLON MAN (5) has some smart Cape form over the trip and with a handy galloping weight he should be competitive. CAPTAIN BOMBSHELL (6) won the Marula Sprint over course and distance and there should not be much between him and SUN BLUSHED (2).

Selections:

#10 BEECHAMWOOD BOY, #7 GOOD TRAVELLER, #5 TEFLON MAN, #6 CAPTAIN BOMBSHELL

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 2400m, Turf, R135,000, 14:55GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: CAPE EAGLE (7) has been in cracking form over shorter and Andre Nel’s gelding has been running on stoutly. The step up in trip should suit and he can have the measure of Justin Snaith’s charge ONE WAY TRAFFIC (6) who is well proven over the trip. Snaith has made a cracking start to his KZN winter season raid and One Way Traffic could well be the horse they all have to beat. CYBER TIME (1) has been confined to a mile at recent outings but has form over this trip and with a handy weight can feature. PIRATE PRINCE (5) has his third run after a break and was a close-up second last start over shorter. He stays the trip and must have a chance.

Selections:

#7 CAPE EAGLE, #6 ONE WAY TRAFFIC, #1 CYBER TIME, #5 PIRATE PRINCE

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R150,000, 15:30GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: MARY’S GREENLIGHT (10) was a narrow winner over a mile last time out but prior to that Mike de Kock’s filly had not been far back to recent Gr2 SA Oaks winner Frances Ethel. The step up in trip will suit and she will be a big runner. CELTIC BEAUTY (9) is relatively unexposed and has had the benefit of having won over course and distance and has a handy galloping weight. IVY LEAGUE (8) was not far back in her local debut after returning from a break. Her regular pilot is aboard and she can definitely finish in the money. Stable companion BALLROOM BLISS (3) is up in class but won well on this course last time out which is a bonus.

Selections:

#10 MARY’S GREENLIGHT, #9 CELTIC BEAUTY, #8 IVY LEAGUE, #3 BALLROOM BLISS

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1750m, Turf, R150,000, 16:05GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary: Algoa Cup winner FUTURE SWING (2) has strong form in feature company and although he won over a lot further last time out, Justin Snaith’s gelding is equally effective over this trip. IMILENZEYOKOUDUDUMA (6) was a beaten favourite when NARINA TROGON (3) turned the tables last time out and is now 3kg better off. Robbie Hill sent NAVAJO NATION (5) to try his luck in the Highveld features without success.  The gelding is way better than his run in the Gr1 SA Classic and can surprise here.

Selections:

#2 FUTURE SWING, #5 NAVAJO NATION, #6 IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA, #3 NARINA TROGON

HOLLYWOODBETS SCOTTSVILLE, 14.04.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R110,000, 16:40GMT+2

Race Summary: Summary:  SHONA KIRSTY IVES (9) has been a beaten favourite at her last three and is due a change of fortune. Rachell Venniker gets down to her absolute minimum weight for Michael Roberts and the inference is obvious. SHANTA’S PRIDE (12) has her issues but showed up well first time back from a break. Richard Fourie rides for Peter Muscutt which is always an encouraging sign. MAGGIE SMITH (14) is lightly raced and has been consistent of ate for Wendy Whitehead. Her last two outings on this course has seen her in the money and she has another strong chance again. DAWN SURPRISE (3) was a recent maiden winner but has made steady progress for Gary Rich. She takes on stronger here but does look progressive.

Selections:

#9 SHONA KIRSTY YVES, #12 SHANTA’S PRIDE, #14 MAGGIE SMITH, #3 DAWN SURPRISE

Best Win: Race 2 #8

Best Value Bet: Race 4 #10

Best Longshot: Race 6 #9
