SELANGOR RACE PREVIEW SAT 13 APRIL

The Saturday card of racing at Selangor Turf Club contains no features, with three Class 4 events highlighting the seven-race program. An interesting clash is expected in the 1400m Class 4B contest as in-form performers RS DIAGO (2) and FLAMING PHOENIX (4) target the winning hat-trick in Race 6.

RS DIAGO, rising 5kg following his third Class 4 win here a month ago with a decisive 3.75L victory, will face FLAMING PHOENIX (4), coming off successive Class 5 wins culminating in an impressive effort from barrier 10. The mare has previously won at Class 4 level and drops 3kg from that performance.

TYPHOON (10) rises to Class 4 for the first time after pulling up lame when finishing 5th (beaten 5L) behind handy mare Ahtims Klis last start.

Despite the setback, the 4yo is capable of scoring on the upgrade and cannot be taken lightly. ORDOS LEGEND (6), also recovering from a lameness issue, is expected to improve.

RACE 6 SELECTIONS: (4) FLAMING PHOENIX, (2) RS DIAGO, (10) TYPHOON, (6) ORDOS LEGEND

BALIN (7), a 7yo prepared by current leading trainer Simon Dunderdale, could be the value selection in another division of the Class 4 (Race 4). The gelding will be freshened, and he showed promise when finishing well under a good hold in a trial here on Tuesday.

Despite no wins from numerous tries at Class 4 level, BALIN achieved a hat trick of wins towards the end of last year, suggesting the break might be advantageous.

VILLAGE STAR (3) and GOLD SKY BILLION (2) are both resuming since December and are worthy contenders on their respective race track returns. Veteran campaigner, TERMS OF REFERENCE (1), experienced misfortune last start but remains competitive as he drops back to the “B” division in the grade.

STRAIGHT N ARROW (10) is still seeking a local victory but is a trifecta chance with the light weight.

RACE 4 SELECTIONS: (7) BALIN, (3) VILLAGE STAR, (2) GOLD SKY BILLION, (1) TERMS OF REFERENCE

ROCK N ROLL (2) will aim for back-to-back wins in the 1400m Class 5 (Race 2). The 7yo, a distance specialist with 6 wins from 12 starts over the journey, faces an increase of 3kg but is capable of securing another Class 5 contest.

SHANgHAI CAPTAIN (6) returns to home territory after an unplaced effort at Ipoh last Sunday and can strike back at his third start back in the grade.

ELITE SAINT (4) should perform better on the downgrade, while NEVERTHELESS (1) has been descending in the ratings for a while now and was placed behind ROCK N ROLL (2) last start.

RACE 2 SELECTIONS: (2) ROCK N ROLL, (6) SHANHAI CAPTAIN, (4) ELITE SAINT, (1) NEVERTHELESS
