RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: GREYVILLE@2024.03.31
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 1, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R100,000, 12:30GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: APEX PREDATOR (8) has drawn wide but has been a beaten favourite at his last two. Richard Fourie stays with the ride which is always a good pointer. PLETTENBERG (2) has a better draw and was a close-up second last run. His two best efforts have been over this distance. RED MOUNTAIN (1) has been rested. He could possibly prefer further but has shown some promise over course and distance. SUMMER SHADE (3) drops back to a sprint with first time blinkers and has a money chance.
Selections:
#8 APEX PREDATOR, #2 PLETTENBERG, #1 RED MOUNTAIN, #3 SUMMER SHADE
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 2, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R100,000, 13:05GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: TAMBALA (7) made a promising debut when running on late and the step up in trip should suit. He meets some modest opposition. POWER STAR (8) has shown some improvement of late but is a long-time maiden. He was staying on in a hard-run race last start and a repeat will see him close. BASIE RAAKVAT (1) has shown signs of coming to hand and although well beaten last start he can feature here. TORIX NIGHT (6) has not been far back over shorter and he may now prefer this trip.
Selections:
#7 TAMBALA, #8 POWER STAR, #1 BASIE RAAKVAT, #6 TORIX NIGHT
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 3, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R100,000, 13:40GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Open handicap. MASTER JOSH (1) has run two forward races since returning from a break. He should be at his peak now and has the best of the draw. NELSON BAY (8) took on a strong field in a Pinnacle Stakes last time out. He may prefer it a touch further but he is smart on his day. MUSIC IS LIFE (5) took on a lot stronger when touched off at his last start. Down in class with a 4kg claimer up should make him competitive. ENSUING (4) is way better than his last effort and is best ignored. That was his first run back from a lengthy beak and he is sure to have come on from that run.
Selections:
#1 MASTER JOSH, #8 NELSON BAY, #5 MUSIC IS LIFE, #4 ENSUING
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 4, Gallops, 1200m, Turf, R100,000, 14:15GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: DONQUERARI (1) seldom runs a bad race and was up against much stronger last run. He is back in more suitable company and from a good draw he should be in the firing line. DIANI (4) is back over his best course and distance. He showed up well on the poly from a wide draw last run and can do better here. PLAZA ACCORD (9) has his first local outing after showing some fair Cape form. He may just need it but he does look progressive. SHAMPOMPO SHAMPIZI (8) tried further last run but does seem better over the shorter trips. This is his third run after a lengthy break and he should strip at his peak.
Selections:
#1 DONQUERARI, #4 DIANI, #9 PLAZA ACCORD, #8 SHAMPOMPO SHAMPIZI
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 5, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R135,000, 14:50GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Visiting BALTIC SECERT (6) makes her local debut and has some smart Cape form to her name. She goes well this trip and her last win was around the Hollywoodbets Durbanville turn. If fir and well she will go close. MOONSHININGTHROUGH (3) seldom misses the money and is over her best trip. She should make her presence felt. NO FILTER (4) has had two outings for Tienie Prinsloo and she won a smart race over course and distance last time out. She meets a smart field here but has a light weight. WAR EMPRESS (1) was second best behind No Filter last run but now has the best of the draw and is better off in the handicap.
Selections:
#6 BALTIC SECRET, #3 MOONSHININGTHROUGH, #4 NO FILTER, #1 WAR EMPRESS
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 6, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R200,000, 15:25GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Justin Snaith could get his feature race campaign off to a winning start when he sends out DOUBLE GRAND SLAM (5). She gave notice of her ability when finishing third behind Princess Calla in the Majorca Stakes when stepped up to a mile for the first time and following up with a facile victory in the Vasco Prix du Cap over the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth 1400m where she came in for a ton of market support. A big danger is Glen Kotzen’s filly RASCOVA (6). She finished ahead of Double Grand Slam in the Majorca Stakes where she had the worst of the draw and although soundly beaten next time out in the Vasco Pix du Cap she was giving her rival 2kg for a three-length beating. MIA MOO (4) has only once been out of the money and that was in the Gr2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas. MAURITANIA (3) could battle at these weights but is progressive and may be the pick of Wendy Whitehead’s pair.
Selections:
#5 DOUBLE GRAND SLAM, #6 RASCOVA, #4 MIA MOO, #3 MAURITANIA
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 7, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R200,000, 16:00GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Cape Guineas winner SNOW PILOT (6) was thrown in the deep end when taking on the country’s best milers in the Gr1 L’Ormarins Kings Plate. He was not disgraced behind Charles Dickens. He boast smart Cape form but given these weights he could struggle against Mike de Kock’s runner GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE (4) who has been up against the cream of the Highveld sophomores. Given the merit ratings and the turnover in the weights, Gimmeanotherchance could just have the measure of Snow Pilot. UNDERWORLD (1) give Snaith a second string to his bow. He was a close-up second two older horses at his last two outings and from the best of the draw he could upset the two more fancied runners. RED BOMBER (3) boast consistent Highveld form but could find this a tough ask.
Selections:
#4 GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE, #6 SNOW PILOT, #1 UNDERWORLD, #3 RED BOMBER
HOLLYWOODBETS GREYVILLE, 31.03.2024, Race 8, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R100,000, 16:35GMT+2
Race Summary: Summary: Open handicap. BOM (4) did not get the best of passages from a tough draw last time out. He has shown up well in two starts prior after returning from a break. The cheek pieces go on along with Richard Fourie. Stable companion RUGGER BUGGER (1) finished just ahead when last they met in what was his first run back from a break. LAKE COMO (5) goes well over course and distance and with Rachel Venniker’s allowance he must have a good winning chance. LOU LOU THE LEGEND (6) is up in class but is consistent and has a light weight.
Selections:
#4 BOM BOM, #1 RUGGER BUGGER, #5 LAKE COMO, #6 LOU LOU THE LEGEND
Best Win: #5 DOUBLE GRAND SLAM
Best Value Bet: #4 GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE
Best Longshot: #9 PLAZA ACCORD
