1. GIVE ME GOLD –
2. GIRAFFE – In full possession of her means and thrives on heavy ground, which she confirmed by finishing 2nd in a 2000m Quinte+ on the turf at Marseille-Borely on 27 February.
3. BEAUTIFUL MEMORY – Consistent performer with sound references, including a victory at this level. Finished 9th in a 2150m Quinte+ at Cagnes on 29 January on her comeback after an absence of three months – can do better.
4. SEA BREAKER – Caught the eye on her reappearance when finishing 2nd over 2200m at Fontainebleau on 2 March after a three-month absence. Will have a role to play having already proven herself on heavy ground.
5. LOFSONGUR ISLANDE – Has made six consecutive appearances in Quinte+ races and resurfaced with an encouraging 4th over 2500m on PSF at Deauville on 26 January. Must confirm on turf after a subsequent break.
6. DEEP SEA – Last-start winner of a 1900m PSF handicap at Deauville on 29 November and carries a 3kg penalty in her comeback outing on turf. For another day.
7. LEGEND – Has already proven her efficiency and competitiveness on heavy ground and at Quinte+ level. Hasn’t been seen since finishing 6th on a 2400m turf Listed race at Toulouse on 26 November.
8. RODAINAH – Progressive filly whose limits remain unknown. Won consecutive conditions races last year, on turf at Evereux in September winning her latest outing on PSF over 2400m at Pornichet on 2 October.
9. BRANDYWINE – Consistent for the most part and has sound references, including a good 3rd in her only appearance at this level. Finished 3rd on her comeback over 2100m at MarseilleBorély on 13 February.
10. BUMBLE BEE – Consistent, lightly raced mare whose references include a last-start 6th in a 1900m Quinte+ on PSF at Deauville against males on 3 February. Dark horse.
11. SPEEDY ANGEL – Lightly raced mare plagued by soundness issues – has run just 5 times but already reveled serious means. Caught the eye on her reappearance when 5th over 1800m on PSF at Chantilly on 1 March.
12. KIMINA – Inconsistent mare whose last success was achieved in November 2021. Confirmed on heavy ground but will be stretched by this distance, so can be ruled out – finished 7th over 1600m at Fontainebleau last time out (2 March).
13. LIGHTED GLORY – Returned to form with a last-start success in a 2150m claimer at Cagnes with Australian blinders for the first time on 7 February. Needs to confirm.
14. HADYA – Last-start winner of a 2100m PSF handicap at Chantilly on 1 March in her first outing beyond 1950m. Carries a 2,5kg penalty back on the turf and in her Quinte+ debut.
15. DREAM WUKAIR – Inconsistent filly whose best references have been achieved at a lower level. Finished 13th in a 2500m turf handicap at cagnes on 21 February and races off an unchanged mark – watch for now.
16. MORISOT – Consistent mare with sound references in the Quinté+ category off a higher mark. Hasn’t been seen since finishing 5th in a 2500m PSF handicap at Deauville on 5 December.
Summary: SPEEDY ANGEL (11) made an encouraging reappearance on her return from a lengthy 406-day absence when running on to finish an eye-catching 5th on PSF at Chantilly recently. She ought to have tightened up with the benefit of that comeback run so, with improved fitness on her side, should find herself fighting for victory if effective on heavy ground. GIRAFFE (2), on the other hand, has serious references on such going and is likely to pose a threat, as is ‘mud-lark’ LEGEND (7), who has a habit of running well under similar conditions. BEAUTIFUL MEMORY (3) also caught the eye on her seasonal reappearance at Cagnes and the booking of Stéphane Pasquier bodes well for her chances too, so must also be considered for the leading positions. SEA BREAKER (4), RODAINAH (8), and BRANDYWINE (9) complete the shortlist.
