Race Preview
R1 – PRIX DE FONT ROUSSE – 2000m (a1m 1/4) – TURF – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 21,000
1. SHASTANA – Promising debut when fourth in a Conditions race at Pau over 2000m on 18 February. Tries the turf and should go close to winning.
2. WITH PRESENCE – Modest debut when 9th in a Conditions race at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 2000m on 27 March. Can improve trying the turf this time. Place chance.
3. COUPE D’EUROPE – Did not show much on debut but did a lot better last time out when runner-up in a Conditions race at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 2150m on 20 January. Can go one better this time.
4. NADYROSE – A three-year-old filly by Saônois out of Melirose who is making her debut. Watch the betting.
5. SISTERLAND – A three-year-old filly by Shalaa out of South Sister who is making her debut. Watch the betting.
6. BELSIANA – A three-year-old filly by Camelot out of Requirement who is making her debut. Watch the betting.
7. ZANIAH – A three-year-old filly by Lawman out of Zardaka who is making her debut. Watch the betting.
Summary: SHASTANA (1) was not disgraced on debt which was on the PSF. The switch to the grass this time could see a winning performance. COUPE D’EUROPE (3) showed some improvement when runner-up last time out and can fight out the finish once again. SISTERLAND (5) makes her debut and could be a threat. BELSIANA (6) is another to consider having her first run.

R2 – PRIX PIERRE MAUREL – 1700m (a1m 1/8) – TURF – Class 2 – Flat – EUR € 22,000
1. WE RIDE THE WORLD – In fair form and was fourth last time out in a Conditions race at Chantilly over 1400m on 21 November. Returns from a break but could earn some minor money.
2. PIENSA EN MI – Disappointing last two runs on the PSF and was 6th last time out in a Conditions race at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 1600m on 21 January. Better on the turf and can bounce back to score.
3. AZOV – In very good form with three wins in last five starts including a handicap win last time out at this course over 2000m on 27 February. Go close.
4. MON OURAGAN – Continues to improve and was a winner last time out in Conditions race at Pau over 2000m on 26 January. Tackles stronger but is not out of it.
5. IZASTEP – Returned to his best with a win in a Conditions race last time out at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 1500m on 19 February. Unreliable but is not out of it.
Summary: PIENSA EN MI (2) clearly prefers the turf so it could pay to ignore the last two runs and she can bounce back to score. IZASTEP (5) returned to form with a solid win last time out and would not be a surprise winner. MON OURAGAN (4) continues to improve and deserves respect tackling stronger. AZOV (3) is in good form and proven at this track so is clearly not out of it.

R3 – PRIX DU MASSIF DE L’ETOILE – 1200m (a6f) – TURF – Class 4 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 16,000
1. SHOWMAN – Clearly prefers the turf and was fourth last time out in a handicap at Toulouse over 1200m on 11 March. Not out of it.
2. I DARE – Unreliable but did show her best when scoring in a Conditions race at Nimes over this distance on 18 February. Capable of following up if in the mood.
3. WHY CHOPE – Already twice a winner this year and was runner-up last time out in a handicap at Nancy over 1400m on 10 March. Can go one better.
4. BADASS – A winner of two of his last four starts but was 7th last time out in a Conditions race at Nimes over this distance on 18 February. More is needed to win this race.
5. OPPORTUN – Holding his form well and was third last time out in a handicap at Deauville over 1300m on 2 February. Clearly not out of it.
6. IL RITORNO – On a very long losing streak and was well beaten last time out in a handicap at Fontainebleau over 1100m on 6 March. Ran well in penultimate start and deserves some respect.
7. NOBLE AMBER – Last win was 1800m but is holding form and was third last time out in a handicap at Cagnes-sur-Mer over 1500m on 5 February. Can contest the finish this shorter distance.
8. YAKAMETTE KOUKEBAK – On a long losing run and was 11th last time out in a handicap at Fontainebleau over 1100m on 6 March. Needs to do more to win this race.
9. SANTI DEL MARE – Battling to regain best form and was 10th last time out in a handicap at Fontainebleau over 1100m on 6 March. Others are much preferred.
10. NIGHT OF THE OPERA – Unreliable and was 6th last time out in a handicap at Marseille Vivaux over 1500m on 14 March. Capable of a surprise on best form.
11. EXPLORAR – Disappointing last run when 11th in a handicap at Chantilly over 1300m on 29 February. Back on the turf and can contest the finish.
12. FLYLEYF – Struggling of late and was 10th last time out in a handicap at Bordeaux-Le Bouscat over 1400m on 22 February. Others are preferred.
Summary: WHY CHOPE (3) has already won twice this year and was not disgraced when only finding one too good last time out. She should make a bold bid last time out. NOBLE AMBER (7) has been better over further but is not out of it. OPPORTUN (5) is holding form and can contest the finish yet again. IL RITORNO (6) ran well in his penultimate start and is not out of it.
