France Form Sheet – 12th March

Race Preview

R1 – PRIX TEDDY – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Class 2 Divided Handicap – Flat – EUR € 53,000

1. BAILEYS BLUES – A two-time Quinté+ winner with sound references but has no more than a
place chance off his current mark, especially from stall No 16. Best watched for now after
finishing 5th (1300m PSF) at Deauville on 10 February
2. PEDRITO – Consistent, hard-knocking handicapper with solid form credentials (7 places from
12 Quinte+ appearances), though lacks references on heavy ground. Finished 3rd in a 1400m
Quinte+ (PSF) at Deauville on 19 January
3. DENVER CHOP – Highly thought of as a two-year-old when contesting Group races and
finished 3rd in a Listed race over track and trip. Down 2,5kg after finishing 7th on his
reappearance over 1300m (PSF) at Deauville on 10 February
4. APAX – Consistent performer with good form credentials in handicaps and sound references at
this level, including a last-start 6th on 7 November in a 1200m Quinte+ at Fontainebleau. Not
taken lightly on his reappearance
5. MAROON SIX – Efficient on heavy ground and competitive off his current mark with references
over 1400m. Has to improve after finishing 8th in both Quinte+ outings last year and 5th in a
1600m PSF handicap at Pau on 13 December
6. OPALUS ROAD – Lightly raced five-year-old gelding with little mileage but sound references
and form credentials at this level, including a last-start 2nd in a 1600m Quinte+ on the PSF at
Chantilly on 12 December. Has a winning chance
7. WHITE PLATIN – Unreliable but capable performer at this level – confirmed by his 1400m
ParisLongchamp Quinte+ success in September and last-start 4th in a 1200m Quinte at
Fontainebleau on 7 November. Dangerous on his return
8. AROWN – Inconsistent colt with better references at a lower level – finished 9th in his only
Quinte+ appearance (on PSF over 1500m). Was last seen on 29 December when 4th in a 1300m
PSF claimer at Deauville
9. NOLITO – Consistent sort who has already proven his competitiveness in handicaps off this
mark – was 3rd in a 1400m Quinte+ at Vichy in July. Finished 3rd in a 1400m PSF handicap at
Deauville when last seen on 16 November
10. NESR SHALGHODA – Went off the boil in the second half of last year, finishing unplaced in
four PSF outings – the most recent (9th) of those over 1300m at Chantilly on 9 December. Has
switched stables since but is best watched for now
11. HOXTON – Returned to form, with blinkers fitted for the first time, when a reassuring 2nd in a
1200m Quinte+ at Cagnes on 7 February. Will be a factor if confirming that improvement with the
headgear, unsurprisingly, retained                                                                                                12. LIGHT WAKEUP – Won five handicaps in 2023 – including a 1600m Quinte+ at Compiegne in
July – but shot up 12kg as a result. Showed his limitations off this mark when only 16th in a
1200m Quinte+ at Fontainebleau on 7 November
13. MURCIANO – Consistent sort who belatedly opened his account over 1700m on PSF at
Pornichet on his reappearance on 2 March and has placed three times in as many appearances
at Quinté+ level. Candidate for success
14. ETATIQUE – Won this race last year off the same mark value and caught the eye last time
with a reassuring 4th at Cagnes on 5 February in a 1500m Quinte+. High on the shortlist
15. SHORT FINAL – Rewarded for consistency when opening his account on handicap debut
over 1500m on this course last time out. Has been absent since that victory on 10 November and
is significantly up in class on his reappearance
16. NO LIMIT DREAM – Has been a model of consistency since joining Edouard Lyon in August
2023 and proved his competitiveness in Quinte+ handicaps off his current mark. Finished 4th in a
1500m Quinte+ at Cagnes on 7 February

Summary: Lightly raced OPALUS ROAD (6) has already established himself at this level and is
good value to make a winning reappearance, having finished 2nd at this level on PSF in his latest
outing. In a typically competitive Quinte+ handicap, MURCIANO (13) is likely to pose a threat
judged on his references in this category and advanced physical condition. ETATIQUE (14),
winner of this event last year, and HOXTON (11), whose last start with blinkers fitted (retained
here) was encouraging, are others capable of playing a leading role. APAX (4), NO LIMIT
DREAM (16) and NOLITO (9) complete the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
OPALUS ROAD (6) – MURCIANO (13) – ETATIQUE (14) – HOXTON (11)

R2 – PRIX CALANDRIA – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 27,000

1. AQUAZZURA – Caught the eye on debut when finishing 2nd over 1600m on the turf at
Deauville on 18 October. Open to any amount of improvement on her reappearance – keep safe
2. AVENUE MONTAIGNE – Confirmed the promise of her debut 3rd on turf over 1400m at
Chantilly in June last year by finishing a good 2nd over 1600m on the PSF at that venue on 16
February. Should continue to improve
3. ELEGANT FRIEND – Godolphin’s Dubawi filly finished unplaced in both outings across the
Channel last year. Debuting on French soil here having finished a modest 6th over 1400m at
Southwell on 10 October
4. FAMILY SILVER – Runner-up over 1500m on this course last year but could only finish 8th on
her reappearance over 1600m on PSF at Chantilly on 16 February. Could redeem herself back
on turf
5. NICE SPIRIT – Improved with the benefit of experience to finish 3rd over 1300m on PSF at
Deauville on 28 November after finishing 5th on debut over that track and trip. Open to any
amount of improvement on turf for the first time
6. SOUPLESSE – Wasn’t knocked about on debut over 1200m and finished an encouraging 3rd
on this course in May last year. Has to be respected on her eagerly anticipated return to action
7. MIWA – Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 3rd on debut at ParisLongchamp over 1800m on 15
October. Would have gained plenty from that experience

Summary: AVENUE MONTAIGNE (2) confirmed the promise of her debut 3rd last year with an
encouraging 2nd on her reappearance and is likely to go one better here as further progress is
expected of her. She will, however, have to thwart the challenges of returnees SOUPLESSE (6),
who caught the eye on debut when finishing 3rd on this course back in May, and AQUAZZURA
(1), runner-up on her introduction at Deauville in October. NICE SPIRIT (5) has also shown
enough to be competitive in this small field.

SELECTIONS
AVENUE MONTAIGNE (2) – SOUPLESSE (6) – AQUAZZURA (1) – NICE SPIRIT (5)

R3 – PRIX CADET ROUSSEL – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 27,000

1. ZRYAN – Performed at a good level in three starts last year and improved with blinkers fitted to
finish 2nd over 1650m at Craon on 2 September. Has a winning chance on his reappearance
2. DJOE – Didn’t go unnoticed on debut when finishing 5th on this course over 2000m back in
September (15th). Ought to have improved since
3. SPEED HUNTER – Finished 6th on debut at Deauville over 1600m on turf and improved with
that experience to finish 3rd on PSF over 1700m at Pornichet when last seen on 16 November.
Open to further progress
4. LE RAVI – Has made all three starts on the PSF at Lyon-La Soie over 1800m and finished 6th
on each occasion, the most recent of which was on 8 February
5. KAHOOT – Was very disappointing on debut when last of 8 runners over 1600m at
ParisLongchamp on 31 August. Ought to prove himself a lot better than that display suggests
6. E BASTA LA – Fabio Carnevali-trained Kendargent colt to be ridden on debut by Axelle Nicco
who has a 1,5kg allowance

Summary: ZRYAN (1) revealed sufficient means last year to win a race of this nature so gets the
nod here on the strength and consistency of his form. KAHOOT (5) ought to be a lot better than
his debut (8th) performance suggests and cannot be underestimated with the benefit of that
experience under his belt. DJOE (2), whose debut on this course in September was encouraging,
and improving SPEED HUNTER (3) will be competitive for a spot on the podium.

SELECTIONS
ZRYAN (1) – KAHOOT (5) – DJOE (2) – SPEED HUNTER (3)

R4 – PRIX D’AIGREMONT – 1400m (a7f) – TURF – Claiming – Flat – EUR € 19,000

1. KOA – Unplaced in both outings on the PSF at Deauville earlier this year, finished 11th over
1500m on 26 in January. Could improve on turf and at this level
2. LIKING – Consistent, hard-knocking handicapper who ought to be formidable in his debut at
this level, if judged on his best references which includes a last-start 6th in a 1300m PSF
handicap at Chantilly on 24 February
3. DROMEDARIO – Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 5th on debut over 1600m on the PSF at
Chantilly in November but was a tad disappointing when only 7th over 1300m on the PSF at
Deauville on 20 December. Open to improvement
4. LOVEFORCE – François Monfort-trained Land Force filly to be ridden on debut by Antoine
Subias whose 2,5kg allowance will aid this debutante’s chances
5. BOMBEY – Consistent for the most part, especially at this level, but was disappointing last time
when finishing 11th over 1900m in a PSF claimer at Deauville on 18 November. Capable of better
on his reappearance
6. CARAJONES – Debut winner on turf at Le Lion-d’Angers in March 2023 and finished 2nd over
1000m at Lyon-Parilly in April. Unplaced in both starts on PSF this year (10th in a 1500m
handicap at Deauville on 10 Feb), back on turf now
7. VIVE LA REINE – Confirmed in this category with references on both turf and PSF, which
includes a last-start 5th over 1500m in a claimer on the turf at Cagnes on 19 February. Ought to
remain competitive
8. SCAR CHOPE – Won a 1200m claimer at Nimes in October but, on the evidence of her last
four outings, has gone off the boil since. Finished a well-beaten 11th in a 1400m claimer at
Tarbes on 23 February
9. BAZIL – Unplaced in both starts on PSF at Cagnes earlier this year – made no impression
when finishing 12th on debut over 2000m and was a well-beaten 8th over 1300m on 26 February.
Needs to improve
10. PERICALA POINT – Was soundly beaten (12th) on debut in a 1500m PSF claimer at
Deauville on 2 February. Could improve but is best watched for now
11. BELLAMORE – Unplaced in each of her four outings to date, though did run her best race in
her only appearance on turf in a minor event at Limoges in December. Could only finish 8th in a
1500m PSF claimer at Deauville on 2 February
12. SEMENOVKA – Has maintained a reasonable level of form/consistency on both surfaces in
conditions events and handicaps. Finished 6th in a 1500m PSF handicap at Deauville on 10
February but should even fare better at this level
13. LILITH – Finished unplaced in each of her three outings (all on PSF), so will need to improve
to be competitive even at this level. Was a well-beaten 9th over 1700m at Pornichet on 9
February

Summary: This claiming race is likely to go the way of either LIKING (2) or CARAJONES (6) who
have already proven their competitiveness at a higher level as well as capable of winning in this
grade, especially as the joint top-rated runners under these favourable weight terms.
SEMENOVKA (12) has the form and experience to be competitive, so ought to play a leading role
in her first appearance at this level. VIVE LA REINE (7), confirmed in this category, and returning
BOMBEY (5) appeal most of the remainder.
