R1 – PRIX DU CARREFOUR DU CLOS-LA-BARRE – 1600m (a1m) – ALL WEATHER – Maiden – Flat – EUR € 27,000
1. VEXILLOID – Unplaced (9th) in both starts on this surface at Deuaville, the latest over 1500m
on 26 January. Others preferred
2. MIA GRANDE – Placed once in three starts, finishing 3rd over 1900m at Deauville two starts
back. Was only 6th there over the same distance last time on 19 January
3. ROUDOUDOU – Improved to finish 3rd over 1500m at Deauville on 26 January but will have
difficulty turning the tables on EN PLEIN AIR (6). Place chance
4. KING PATH – Caught the eye on debut when finishing 2nd over 1700m at Pornichet on 18
January, when beaten by a rival (Holy See) who has since franked that form with a subsequent 2nd
5. FINIMONDO – Finished a modest 12th on debut at Deauville over 1500m on 26 January. Ought
to improve with the benefit of that experience
6. EN PLEIN AIR – Improved for the step up in distance to finish 2nd over 1500m at Deauville on
26 January and ought to be competitive over the extra 100m
7. AMERICAN LAWYER – American Pharoah gelding trained by Alessandro & Giuseppe Botti and
to be ridden on debut by Rosario Mangione
Summary: KING PATH (4) finished an encouraging 2nd on debut behind an exciting prospect, who
subsequently finished 2nd here in a Class 1 event, so needn’t improve a great deal to go one better
in this opening event. Improving EN PLEIN AIR (6) is the one most likely to pose a threat, although
ROUDOUDOU (3) should also have a role to play. MIA GRANDE (2) completes the shortlist.

1. CARAMELITO – Progressive last-start winner of a Class 1 race on turf over 1600m at
ParisLongchamp on 30 September. Warrants serious respect on his reappearance
2. HARPER – Consistent performer with sound references. Finished a creditable 5th over 1900m
at Deauville over 1900m on 18 November
3. A TASTE OF HONEY – Blotted her copybook when only 8th over 1600m at Cagnes-sur-Mer on
21 January but did win on her return at Pau over 1400m in November. Has leading claims here on
that form
4. ARCANDI – Debut winner at Berlin in September 2022 but raced just once last year, finishing
2nd in a good race at Krefeld over 1700m back in April. Watch for now
5. MEMENTO MORI – Progressive, lightly raced sort with impressive form figures. Bidding for a
hat-trick on his reappearance having won over 1600m at Deauville on 27 August
6. LIE HIGH – Veteran of 100 appearances but has references at a lower level and was soundly
beaten (11th) in his last start at Amiens over 2200m on 13 November
7. IT’S ALL A DREAM – Had a lot of weight to carry (65,5kg) when finishing 14th in a Quinte+ PSF
handicap at Pau last time (31 January). Capable of better
8. SHINNING OCEAN – Gets along wonderfully well with his rider Delphine Santiago but needs to
bounce back from a modest 14th in a Quinte+ PSF handicap at Deauville on 19 January
9. SULEYMAN – Confirmed the promise of his debut 4th at Deauville over 1500m by winning over
that track and trip on 19 January. Not taken lightly
10. ELLE AMOUR – Soundly beaten in both starts last year and unlikely to make her presence felt
on her reappearance. Was a modest 11th over 2400m at Wissembourg on 24 June
Summary: A TASTE OF HONEY (3) fluffed her lines at Cagnes-sur-Mer last time but, on the
evidence of her winning reappearance at Pau in her previous, has a great opportunity to redeem
herself here. However, both MEMENTO MORI (5) and CARAMELITO (1) are likely to fight for
victory on their returns to action. HARPER (2), the highest-rated runner in the race, ought to be
competitive too on these weights terms.

2. IBERIA – Didn’t go unnoticed when finishing 7th over 1500m at Deauville on 5 December but
needs to improve to have a say here
3. MY DESERT QUEEN – Finished a well-beaten 10th on debut at Leicester over 1400m on 12
September, so is best watched for now in her first start on French soil
4. GOA – Runner-up on debut over 1500m on PSF at Deauville and confirmed that promise, despite
finishing 5th over the same course and distance on 26 January. Not taken lightly
5. WALENCIA – Improved from run one to run two, finishing 6th at Nancy over 1400m on 21
October, but will ned to raise her game to have a say here
6. AVENUE MONTAIGNE – Absent since finishing 3rd on debut at Chantilly on turf over 1400m.
Would’ve strengthened/improved since, so must be respected on her reappearance
7. LA VUELTA – Unplaced in both outings and is hard to make a case for here having finished a
modest 13th last time over 1500m at Deauville on 26 January
8. MATERANA – Was soundly beaten in both starts over 1500m at Deuaville – the latest of which
was on 26 January. Needs to show more
9. FAMILY SILVER – Caught the eye on debut when finishing 2nd over 1500m on turf at SaintCloud on 30 October. Should have improved since
10. RUE DU SAHEL – Unplaced in her two outings, finished 7th in both starts, the latest of which
was in a claiming race over 1500m at Deauville on 2 February. Others preferred
11. EXCEEDING QUEEN – Well-bred Exceed And Excel debutante with classic entries to her
name. Clément Lecoeuvre rides for trainer Andreas Schutz
12. STABAT MATER – Bamiyan debutante trained by Maurizio Guarnieri, who has engaged Frida
Valle Skar to ride with the aid of a 1,5kg allowance
Summary: Well-bred newcomer EXCEEDING QUEEN (11), who is closely related to a Listed
winner, holds entries in the Poule d’Essai and Prix de Diane so could be worth siding with to make
a winning debut. L’ARDECHOISE (1) has made a good start to her career and is likely to mount a
serious challenge, with the benefit of experience on her side. AVENUE MONTAIGNE (6) will have
more to offer on her reappearance after a promising debut, so could join that fight for victory. GOA
(4) and FAMILY SILVER (9) complete the shortlist.

Would’ve preferred a heavy track but should acquit himself competitively once more
2. KAPANI – Won a 3200m Quinte+ handicap on PSF at Chantilly on 14 December and proved his
competitiveness off this mark (3kg penalty) by finishing 2nd in a 2500m turf handicap at Cagnes
on 15 January
3. INDIAN SUNSET – Consistent at a lower level in Germany and was soundly beaten when only
9th in a 2400m claimer at Lyon-La Soie on 11 January. Others preferred
4. LAUGHINGOF FEAR – Guillaume Trolley de Prevaux rides this Lope De Vega gelding on debut
for trainer Tim Donworth. Best watched for now
5. GAIDAR – Confirmed the encouragement of his comeback 5th over 1900m at Deauville by
winning over 2500m at that venue on 19 January, beating HASTY SAILOR (6). Will be a factor off
an unchanged mark
6. HASTY SAILOR – Arrived from England with sound references and has run well in both starts
on French soil recently. Was 2nd in a 2500m PSF race behind GAIDAR (5) on 19 January
7. SWEET AUTHOR – Stays the trip well but has references at a much lower level. Finished 5th
over 1800m on 24 January at Chantilly but has no more than a place chance here
8. ZARIR – Lightly raced, maturing stayer who revealed serious means last year, winning twice.
Finished 4th over 2400m on turf at Clairefontaine on 18 August but will have more to offer returning
after a gelding
9. MIDSUMMER DANCE – Showed promise in England, albeit without success, but has raised her
game in 2 starts on French soil. Won over 3100m at Pornichet on 18 January and ought to remain
competitive here
Summary: ZARIR (8) revealed serious potential as a three-year-old and is likely to be better still
at four and as a gelding, so it will pay to his follow progress, especially with Stéphane Pasquier
engaged to ride on his reappearance. He gets the nod ahead of reliable veteran BELGIAN PRINCE
(1) and last-start winner GAIDAR (5), who is closely matched with HASTY SAILOR (6). Good race!

1. LOST IN MUSIC – Won consecutive claiming races in his first two starts on French soil but went
off the boil late last year. Finished 8th in a similar contest over 1900m at Deauville on 28 December
2. DOMIZIA SWEETY – Consistent Italian filly throughout 2023. Finished 6th at Naples on 28
December so is one to keep an eye on in her first start on French soil
3. MOONWALKER – Has improved in two starts this year and was a reassuring 4th off her current
mark over 1500m at Deauville on 2 February. Place chance
4. DSCHINGIS GOLD – Finished 4th on debut at Le Mans in October but has regressed in
subsequent outings and was only 6th over 2000m at Durtal on 17 December
5. ASHKENAZIM – Was only 10th on debut over 1900m at Deauville on 19 January but that was
in a strong race. Could be anything in this grade and could be worth siding with at odds
6. AMALYA – Has finished 7th in both outings this year, including once at this level and in a PSF
handicap at Deauville over 1900m on 26 January. Warrants respect
7. ST BRIAC – Finished 3rd twice at this level and was 4th in his last appearance in this grade.
Finished 10th in a PSF handicap at Deauville over 1500m on 26 January but should do better
reverting to a claimer
8. COLT PILOT – Has finished unplaced in each of his eight outings and was a modest 6th over
2150m at Lyon-La Soie on 8 February. Others preferred

12. EXCESSIVENESS – Has made no impression in each of her three starts, including a modest
9th over 1500m at Deauville on 2 February. Can be ruled out
13. SUMMER FLIRT – Unplaced in each of her four starts, including a modest 9th over 1900m at

14. PADDY WHITE HEART – Returned to form by finishing 5th in a claimer over 1500m at Deauville
on 2 February. Will be fitted with headgear for the first time in his career
Summary: An open event in which it could pay to side with ASHKENAZIM (5), who finished
unplaced on debut but in a competitive field. ST BRIAC (7) made a discreet comeback but ought
to have improved with the benefit of that outing and should be a factor back in this category. Judged
on her best references, AMALYA (6) is likely to make her presence felt too, along with SOLTANA
BELIEVE (10) who was unlucky not to have finished closer last time (5th).

at this level but has been off the boil recently. Finished 11th over 2500m at Deauville on 26 January
4. ELYT OF GOLD – Continues to blow hot and cold but but is seldom far off the mark on a going
day. Needs to improve after a disappointing 11th over 3100m at Pornichet on 27 January
5. NAMAR – Unreliable veteran mare with references at this level but has been off the boil for some
time now. Was 11th over 2500m on 29 December so can be ruled out
6. ATREUS – Unplaced in each of his four starts last year a fter a lengthy absence and is best
watched for now after finishing 11th over 3000m on this course on 22 December
7. CHONBURI – Proved she’s competitive at this level of the handicap by finishing 2nd over course
and distance before finishing 3rd last time at Deauville over 2500m on 29 December. Keep safe
8. LORD SPIRIT – Unreliable veteran seldom far off the mark on a going day with references at this
level but has been off the boil recently. Not likely to trouble the judge after a last-start 11th at
Deauville on 29 December
9. MORNING SPIRIT – Consistent for the most and capable of a lot better than her disappointing
last start (12th) over 2500m at Deauville on 26 January, especially back at the course her last
success
10. HACKLE SETTER – Continues to blow hot and cold but but is seldom far off the mark on a
going day. Needs to improve after a disappointing 9th over 2400m at Lyon on 24 January
11. PARFAITE MERILL – Consistent veteran mare with sound form references. Finished 5th over
1900m at Deauville from a wide draw on 3 February and should go well from a better barrier here
12. CHARLES LEGEND – Consistent for the most and is capable of playing a leading role here,
having regained freshness since his 4th over 3000m on this course on 22 December. Not taken
lightly
13. WALDENON – Unreliable veteran with sound references at this level back in the day but went
off the boil late last year and is unlikely to trouble the judge despite finishing 5th over 2500m at
Deauville on 29 December
14. ANIMA ERAT – Modest mare with nothing to her name to warrant consideration here. Finished
7th in a claiming race at Lyon-La Soie over 2150m on 24 January
15. ABORIGENE – Will benefit from the 1,5kg allowance granted to Marie Vélon and is capable of
getting into the picture, despite a disappointing last start (9th) over 2500m at Deauville on 5 January 16. BAILEYS SANS DOUTE – Inconsistent veteran mare with no wins to her name from 27 starts.
Was 8th over course and distance on 14 December and can be ruled out here
Summary: PARFAITE MERILL (11) has proven on several occasions in recent weeks that she is
capable of winning a race of this nature so she gets the nod ahead of in-form FEEDESREVES (1),
who is likely to fight for victory. MYKAN (2), judged on the form of his penultimate start, should also
have a role to play here. CHARLES LEGEND (12), proven over long distances, CHONBURI (7),
and MORNING SPIRIT (9) also have references at this level so are not without a chance either.

6. ALMIRA – Finished a well-beaten 10th on her handicap debut over 3200m at Lyon-La Soie on
24 January. Races off a 2kg lower mark but needs to improve – watch for now
7. GOLD PALACE – Inconsistent veteran back at the track of his last podium finish two starts back
(22 December). Can do better than his latest 9th over 2500m at Deauville on 26 January
8. SERIGNAN – Unplaced in each of his nine outings and is unlikely to trouble the judge here after
finishing 11th over 2900m at Clairefontaine on 16 October
9. WINGS OF FIRE – Unreliable sort with poor recent form in the book. Finished a well-beaten 9th
over 2500m at Deauville on 29 December and can be ruled out
10. TYTAN – Won a 2500m PSF handicap four starts back but has struggled in his last 2 starts
under a 2kg penalty. Could do better eased 0,5kg
11. MOMOUR – Unreliable veteran with references at this level. Has been off the boil for some time,
though, and was a modest 12th over 2100m on this course on 24 January
12. ASSONANCE – Inconsistent mare but is in good shape and won’t be far off the mark after
finishing 4th over 2500m at Deauville on 26 January
13. IDOLE MOME – Seldom far off the mark on the flat but has better references over hurdles. Was
6th in a minor event at Machecoul over 2950m on 3 February
14. FALWUKAIR LAUJAC – Lightly raced sort who has been regaining momentum recently.

15. MONJARAZ – Unreliable sort with modest recent form to his name, which includes finishing 7th
in consecutive starts in a turf claimer and a PSF handicap over course and distance on 14

16. OSER – Caught the eye with a fast-finishing 2nd over 1900m on 3 February at Deauville.
Winning chance
Summary: OSER (16) seldom finishes far off the mark and, undoubtedly, has the means to win a
race of this ilk off her current mark. She improved to finish 2nd last time and need only repeat that
performance to go one better here. Her opposition will be led by ROYAL MONARCH (2), who has
regained a competitive level of form, and JAGUARE PRECIEUSE (4) whose last-start success in
this grade gives her every chance of fighting for victory once more. GOLD PALACE (7) returns to
the track of its last podium and is also capable of staking a claim too, with the shortlist completed
by BOB LA BIDOUILLE (1).

5. WANATA – Consistent for the most part but has been hard to win with (just 1 victory from 16
starts). Finished 6th in a 2500m claimer at Deauville on 3 February
6. ATHINEOS – Inconsistent but does have sound references at this level. Out of sorts recently and
was only 12th over 2500m at Deauville last time (26 January) but is capable of better
7. KEEP AWAY – Unplaced in both starts on French soil recently having arrived in France with
consistent references at a lower level in Germany. Others preferred
8. PETITE AMADEE – Talented filly on turf, especially over obstacles but has no references on
PSF. Won a 3500m hurdle race at Cagnes on 1 January
9. REPLENISH – Unreliable veteran with sound references at this level, but continues to blow hot
and cold. Was 9th at Deauville over 2500m on 5 December
10. SCREEN SHOT – Last-start winner over 2100m on this course (24 January). Reverts to the

11. NIGHTDANCE MAN – Seldom far off the mark on a going day and was 6th on this course over

Summary: JAAFAR (1) caught the eye when finishing 3rd in good company last time and, on the
strength of that form, could make a winning handicap debut. He will, however, have to be wary of
FLATTEN THE CURVE (2), who stood out in Quinté+ races in recent weeks. WEST MARTIN (4)
disappointed last time but ought to pose more of a threat in this category, which can also be said
of SCREEN SHOT (10) and ULTRASOUND (3). The shortlist is completed by WANATA (5) off a
competitive mark.

5. AL HABISSET – Well beaten on her debut but did show vast improvement when third in a
Conditions race over this track and trip on 27 January. Go close
6. HOPEFULLY – Not disgraced when fifth on debut and did even better when fourth in a Conditions
race at Pau over 1600m when returning from a break. Tries further and is not out of it
7. NEW TOWN – Well beaten in a Conditions race over this course and distance on debut on 7
January. Can improve but others are much preferred
8. ALREADY QUEEN – Did not show much on debut when 9th in a Conditions race at tis course
over 1700m on 18 January. Can improve trying a bit further but others are preferred
9. IVORY TRAOU LAND – Well beaten in both starts and was 8th over this course and distance
last time out on 27 January. Others are preferred
10. LA NUIT – Well beaten in both starts including at Deauville over 1900m on 19 January. Needs
to find a few lengths to win
11. LAYDIVA – A three-year-old filly by Taj Mahal out of Smala Diva who is making her debut.

Summary: AL HABISSET (5) showed good improvement from debut to round two and should make
abold bid at scoring. GRAND LILI (4) ran well when fourth at Deauville and will be a treat to these
runners. SILLABUB (1) steps up in distance and is capable of more improvement. RIO (3) will be
fitter off the last run and is quite capabkle of contesting the finish yeat again.

3. DSCHINGIS VOYAGE – Unreliable of late and was only 6th in a handicap over this course and
distance on 30 January. Capable of earning some money
4. KHANWEILER – Has lost his way of late and was only 7th in a Conditions race at Lyon La Soie
over 2400m on 3 January. Capable of contesting the finish on best form
5. LOKI – Struggling of late and was only 10th in a handicap at Lyon La Soie over 1800m on 8
February. Did better last year and could earn some money
6. FELIX FELICIS – Showed some improvement when 6th in his second start which was over this
course and distance on 7 January. More needed to win and others are preferred
