January 21 Selangor Preview by Mark Lydeamore

The 1100m Supreme B race (Race 7) will headline the ten race card on Sunday and features a couple of up and coming types which have made rapid progress through the grades in recent months.

TITAN PEGASUS (7) and DABBLE (9) will be lining up against some more experienced and seasoned campaigners in the high grade contest. TITAN PEGASUS (7) won at his local debut eleven months ago at Penang in a Class 4 race and hasn’t looked back with a return of four wins and three placings from eight Malaysian starts. The 6yo has been freshened since his third in a Metro A event on December 2 but has maintained form with a couple of impressive trials this year. DABBLE (9) is a slick beginner coming off successive wins on the inner track and was sharpened in winning a 400m jumpout trial at the track on Tuesday. THE MAREEBA MANGO (6) also trialled well last month and resumes from a three month spell. The 7yo experienced an interrupted preparation with only the four starts last year but on best form, he is capable of winning at this level. VIOLET (1) wasn’t disgraced finishing just outside the placings in a Metro A contest when resuming here on December 23. The 8yo has a good second up record and is a proven weight carrier. BIG DOCTOR (3) had no trouble in accounting for a three horse lineup in Penang on Gold Cup day when leading throughout but strikes harder opposition this time around and will have to overcome the wide barrier.

The first of two Class 3 events (Race 8) will see the return of promising 5yo KONG FU PANDA (2) which resumes from a two month break. Not seen since his unplaced effort in the 1600m G1 Coronation Cup on November 5, the KC Tiang trained gelding has a good first up record but hasn’t won for nearly one and a half years. He will be up against the race fit MISTY SWIFT (1) who was denied a Class 3 victory when beaten a head over 1300m a month ago. The 5yo has scored on the A course twice from four starts and will take some beating again. HIGH WATER (7) will appreciate dropping back to Class 3 competition and can improve. SKYLIGHT (8) failed to handle the wet track and the 1400m trip last start and the drop to 1200m should suit the mare. SPEEDY MISSILE (3) has closed off well at his past two outings as he searches for his first Malaysian win this weekend.

Race 8 Selections: (1) Misty Swift   (2) Kong Fu Panda   (7) High Water   (8) Skylight

SUPER HAPPY (5) returned from a seven month break in impressive fashion when scoring over 1100m here on December 24 and is on track for back to back victories in the other Class 3 event (Race 9). The 5yo is building a good record with four wins and five placings from ten Malaysian starts and will adapt quickly as he rises to Class 3 level for the first time. GOLDEN PEACH (3) battled gamely in the Penang Gold Cup to finish 8th, 5.75 lengths behind the winner after showing early speed from the wide draw. The 7yo is versatile and cannot be left out of calculations with the distance drop. EMPEROR TAIZONG (1) recorded the fastest time when winning a trial here Tuesday week ago and is one to watch first up. MALAYSIA CAPTAIN (2) drops in class and is a proven performer at this level. XAR (4) can not be underestimated in this lineup either judging by his win two starts ago.

Race 9 selections: (5) Super Happy   (3) Golden Peach   (1) Emperor Taizong   (2) Malaysia Captain
