Apprentice jockey Z Syafifie has been disqualified for a period of one year over his handling of JAKAMA PEGASUS in Race 7 on Sunday, 29 October at Ipoh.
Syafifie was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(8), as read with Rule 44(8)(a) for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that JAKAMA PEGASUS was given a full opportunity of obtaining the best possible placing.
The particulars of the charge are that he failed to give sufficient reins on jumping, resulting in JAKAMA PEGASUS jumping awkwardly and losing considerable ground, thereby racing at the back of the field, which was contrary to his instructions, and that he failed to ride with sufficient vigour and determination from the 500m to the finish.
From the same meeting, jockey MM Firdaus, the rider of STORM TO WIN in Race 5, was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. After jumping from the 1300m, he remained in a wide position until the 600m, thereby covering unnecessary ground and thereby failed to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of six (6) months.
