RACE BY RACE PREVIEWS: DURBANVILLE@2023.10.10
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 1, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R110.000, 12:10GMT+2
Race Summary: A competitive opener, though it could pay to follow the progress of STAR PERFORMER on local debut, having relocated and switched stables. He showed promise in both KZN outings, including finishing 2nd to an exciting undefeated 3yo over this trip last time. Both WILLIAM WEST and BARNBOUGLE, who were 2nd over this track and trip last time out, are battle-hardened and have track experience too, so could pose a threat. COUNTER ATTACK, HARD WINTER and GREAT CAT (reserve) have plenty scope to improve and must also be respected. Newcomers PEANUT POPS and DINA AROBI are worth a market check.
Selections:
#4 Star Performer, #2 William West, #6 Dina Arobi, #7 Barnbougle
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 2, Gallops, 1600m, Turf, R135.000, 12:40GMT+2
Race Summary: Good race. Lightly raced MY FLOWER FATE remains unexposed and while she does have a bit to find under the conditions, is probably better than rated. She could well prove up to this rise in class in her peak outing. RED SASH is consistent and won her only start over this distance. She is better off at the weights with QUEEN OF SPARTA and should turn the tables. Stable companions SUPREME DREAM and LADY SILVANO are closely matched on the evidence of a recent course-and-distance meeting and both should be competitive on that form. FUN ZONE is versatile and is not without a chance either.
Selections:
#1 My Flower Fate, #8 Lady Silvano, #2 Red Sash, #5 Fun Zone
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 3, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 13:10GMT+2
Race Summary: Stablemates SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL and LOOK FORWARD are likely to be competitive given their form and experience but have had numerous chances to breakthrough so are vulnerable to less exposed rivals. VIX PRINCESS and LOVE SHACK fall into that category and have shown enough to suggest they can fight for victory, especially as both are likely to improve over this trip – which also applies to well-bred ESSENTIAL who warrants respect. JET GREEN, CAMARADERIE and LADY LOXTON are capable of getting into the picture.
Selections:
#10 Vix Princess, #11 Love Shack, #12 Look Forward, #1 Simply Beautiful
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 4, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 13:45GMT+2
Race Summary: A big field but there are few with winning chances. TAMBOURINE MAN has improved in the two starts after he was gelded and with blinkers fitted. He should have more to offer over this distance and is taken to edge out 3yo KING VISERYS, runner-up over track and trip recently, who concedes 4kg to his older rival. ETOILEFILLANTE and RAINBOW COLOURS have, on occasion, displayed sufficient means to have a say in this line-up but are unreliable. Reserves COSMIC RHYTHM and LORD SAYE return from lengthy absences but both are likely to improve after pleasing introductions, so are worth keeping an eye on.
Selections:
#5 Tambourine Man, #9 King Viserys, #14 Rainbow Colours, #8 Etoilefillante
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 5, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 14:20GMT+2
Race Summary: FIRU STAR has relocated/switched stables after winning a Polytrack maiden in KZN and has scope to improve. WINTER PEARL caught the eye last time when running on from a long way back (wide draw) over 1250m and has won over this distance, so could represent the value in the race from a favourable inside gate. Both CAPTIVE MOON and MR FROSTIE are closely matched with that rival and are weighted to pose a threat. Similarly, there is little to choose between KELP FOREST, LIKETHECLAPPERS and NUMZAAN who clashed over course and distance last time and should be competitive. WHISKEY BRAVO has claims too.
Selections:
#2 Winter Pearl, #4 Kelp Forest, #10 Liketheclappers, #11 Numzaan
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 6, Gallops, 2000m, Turf, R105.000, 14:55GMT+2
Race Summary: Tricky. MISS NEW YORK outran big odds by gamely staying on to finish 2nd in her first start at 1800m, finishing ahead of both LUCY THE PINK (1kg better off) and reserve runner REWRITE THE STARS (2kg better off), and is likely to improve further tried over this trip so could defy the revised weight terms. GENTLEMAN JOE will strip fitter after a pleasing comeback run (1600m) and is effective over this trip, so ought to be competitive. KATSU edged that rival last time and is another open to improvement over this distance. KEEP SHINING, TWICE THE MASTER and BIG POPPA can get into the picture too.
Selections:
#1 Miss New York, #6 Katsu, #3 Keep Shining, #12 Gentleman Joe
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 7, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R120.000, 15:30GMT+2
Race Summary: Competitive. DOUBLE GRAND SLAM was an impressive winner of her maiden at this course but has been absent since, though is highly rated and reported to be doing well at home (fully fit). Well-bred debut winner LA DIVINA could be anything and is entitled to improve for that experience and this step up in distance. GLEE CLUB, who opened her account over this track and trip, is improving and likely to play a leading role from gate No 1. Fellow 3yo fillies NORDIC QUEST and MIA’S HARPER are unexposed sorts who on pedigree should have more to offer going this trip. Others could get involved too.
Selections:
#1 Glee Club, #11 Nordic Quest, #4 Mia’s Harper, #12 Busy Lizzie
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 8, Gallops, 1400m, Turf, R85.000, 16:05GMT+2
Race Summary: Another fascinating fillies’ and mares’ event. Both RAINBOW LORIKEET and RED MOON RISING finished behind the former’s stable companion CALLMEGETRIX before winning their next starts. They’re closely matched on that previous meeting and ought to be competitive given the benefit of those recent runs. However, it could pay to follow the progress of the exciting and unexposed latter despite a wide draw. Maturing last-start winner YOU WIN AGAIN, promising 3yo AMONG THE CLOUDS and consistent MISTY CLIFFS are all capable of having a say in the finish. GREEN VALKYRIE is not without a chance either.
Selections:
#13 Callmegetrix, #5 Rainbow Lorikeet, #11 Red Moon Rising, #9 Misty Cliffs
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 9, Gallops, 1000m, Turf, R120.000, 16:40GMT+2
Race Summary: Another humdinger featuring a host of talented 3yo fillies with bright futures. CANDY TOWN finished 3rd on debut behind WINTER RAINFALL, who had the benefit of experience, and renews rivalry 0.5kg worse off at the weights after winning both subsequent outings. However, such was the manner of her course-and-distance success last time, she could be up to defying a 7-point penalty and a hefty 62kg by turning the tables on her familiar foe. PALO QUEEN should make her presence felt on these terms, while MONTELENA, HIGHLYCONFIDENTIAL and LADY LOOK ALIKE are promising sorts who could also have a say.
Selections:
#6 Candy Town, #9 Winter Rainfall, #2 Palo Queen, #7 Lady Look Alike
Durbanville, 10.10.2023, Race 10, Gallops, 1250m, Turf, R120.000, 17:15GMT+2
Race Summary: Another crack contest. TEFLON MAN was a smart 2yo and did not go unnoticed on his 3yo debut/seasonal reappearance when staying on well over 1000m from the widest draw, and he should confirm the form of that meeting with JEWEL CAT. The former ought to strip fitter and should have more to offer with the extra 250m also likely to suit. ORIENTAL CHARM was a big-priced winner on debut but did beat experienced form rivals, so could confirm that promise. Both ALL ABOUT AL and FORT RED are hard-knockers, competitive at this level off their current marks. GRAND BAY and LINES CROSSED are others to note.
Selections:
#9 Teflon Man, #6 Oriental Charm, #7 Masked Vigilante, #1 Lines Crossed
Best Win: #4 STAR PERFORMER
Best Value Bet: #1 MISS NEW YORK
Best Longshot: #1 MISS NEW YORK
