Pasir Pinji out to extend winning streak at Selangor

New Zealand-bred Pasir Pinji won the recent G1 Selangor Gold Cup.

Thriving seven-year-old gelding PASIR PINJI is on track to achieve four successive victories in the Supreme C contest over 1775m at Selangor on Saturday.

PASIR PINJI arrived in Malaysia as a one-time winner and three-time place-getter in Singapore, but he has quickly established himself as a horse on the rise under the training of Simon Dunderdale. He made a winning debut in September of last year. Competing a total of nine times in Kuala Lumpur, PASIR PINJI has triumphed on seven occasions while finishing as the runner-up twice.

PASIR PINJI kicked off his most recent winning streak in early May and secured back-to-back victories later that same month. However, he was then given a three-month break before returning as a winner on August 6th. On Saturday, PASIR PINJI will be stretching to the extended 1700m trip for the first time in his career. Nonetheless, given his current impressive form, he gives the impression that he will successfully see out the distance and continue his winning ways.

Life’s a Beach in Simlong

SIMLONG BEACH has not looked back since recording her maiden win at Penang in March, posting four impressive victories on the trot. The Sharee Hamilton-trained talent has dominated from start to finish in each of her victories and tried to repeat the dose last time when rising to Class 4 for the first time. However, she was collared late and had to settle for second place.

With her last race 42 days ago, SIMLONG BEACH has trialled ideally in between runs and looks ready to bounce back in a big way fresh up on Saturday. Standing out as the clear leader, the speedy mare appears hard to run down back in trip.

Ride out the Storm in KL

Highly-rated galloper AWESOME STORM returned to the winner’s list last start and looks hard to beat off that in Saturday’s Metro A race over 1275m at Selangor.

The six-year-old, whose previous success was in early February, went five runs without a win thereafter but still performed well, including a narrow defeat in the Group 1 Tunku Gold Cup (1200m) three starts ago in late May.

Reverting to his role as the leader last start, it was the winning ingredient required for six-year-old to secure his ninth Malaysia win at start number 17, cruising away for a soft 2.25-length victory. Maintaining form with a quiet barrier trial win in between tuns, AWESOME STORM enters Saturday’s race with a spring in his step.
