Race Preview

R1 – PRIX JEAN MOUROT – 1000m (a5f) – TURF – Divised Handicap – Class 3 – Flat – EUR € 19.000

1. GAMGOOM – Comfortable at this track and should, despite his big weight, be forgiven for a
recent failure. Can do better
2. ISMAEL PAINT – Has finished 2nd in his last three starts and enjoys racing at this Vichy track.
Both his good form and consistency ought to be rewarded `
3. PILE OU FACE – Has looked rather ordinary for some time now, so his chances here are limited
even at this level. Overlook
4. RED TORCH – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust but
is as hard to rule out
5. TALLINSKI – Has proven effective at this Vichy track and hails from a stable that is usually
successful in these sprints. Respect
6. THE DIG – Finished an improved 4th behind ISMAEL PAINT (2) last time out and ought to have
a say here if confirming
7. SLAM POET – Acquitted himself well in good company at Aix-les-Bains last month and on that
form could pose a threat here
8. SPACE QUAKE – Has won two of his last three outings and, in spite of another penalty (3kg) he
has less margin but keeps his say.
9. HOLLY STORY – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust
but is as hard to rule out
10. NIGHT OF THE OPERA – Struggling to maintain any form or consistency and is not likely to
trouble the judge. Others are preferred
11. VANILLE BLEUE – Undeniably capable but appears to have gone off the boil recently. Seldom
far off but needs to reaffirm

Summary : ISMAEL PAINT (2) is proving costly to follow but has always finished in the top four on
this course so is taken to get his head in front here after finishing 2nd in three consecutive outings.
To return to victory, though, he will have to thwart the likely challenge of THE DIG (6), who he
finished ahead of last month, and SLAM POET (7) who has been rejuvenated of late and is
unexposed over this distance. GAMGOOM (1) is accustomed to carrying big weight and is capable
of making getting into contention.

SELECTIONS
ISMAEL PAINT (2) – THE DIG (6) – SLAM POET (7) – GAMGOOM (1)

R2 – PRIX DU PARC NAPOLEON III – 3000m (a1 7/8m) – TURF – Handicap – Class 3 – Flat – EUR € 20.000

1. PUTUMAYO – Won three times and finished 2nd twice in five starts prior to his unplaced most
recent outing. Has it all to do at this value
2. SUPER QUARTZ – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust
but is as hard to rule out
3. LOVELY LAURA – Nearing a return to winning ways and from a stable in good form, she ought
to fight for victory. Oe to beat
4. SAINT NICOLAS – Inconsistent sort but is not incapable of staking a claim in a race of this
nature, so is dangerous to discount
5. ZLARA – Made a good comeback at Aix-les-Bains and finished 2nd in each of her two outings
at Vichy. Will be competitive
6. VOILA POURQUOI – Runner-up in his only outing at this course and recently returned to form
at Le Lion-d’Angers. Has claims
7. FREE BREATH – Has struggled off this mark (value) in two recent outings having won three
starts back. Needs to reaffirm
8. GARIGLIANO – Improved but was outfought and beaten into 2nd over 2800 meters last time.
Must confirm that improvement to have a say
9. LADY MAG – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust and is
best watched for now

Summary : Paul de Chevigny has enjoyed success in recent weeks and that trend looks likely to
continue here with consistent LOVELY LAURA (3) taken to add to her trainer’s rich vein of form.
She will, however, have to thwart the challenge of ZLARA (5), who made a very good comeback at
Aix-les-Bains, and VOILA POURQUOI (6) who is inconsistent though remains capable.
GARIGLIANO (8) has sound claims too.

SELECTIONS
LOVELY LAURA (3) – ZLARA (5) – VOILA POURQUOI (6) – GARIGLIANO (8)

R3 – PRIX DES BERGES DE L’ALLIER – 2000m (a1 1/4m) – TURF – Handicap – Flat – EUR € 20.000

1. INKIOSTRO – Runner-up in her last two outings and rattled home over 1600m here last time,
which suggests 2000m may suit
2. GRANDE JULIA – Unreliable filly, out of sorts this year but remains capable of having a say in a
race of this nature
3. KING OF MEADOWS – Holding his form well and was last seen finishing 4th over this course
and distance last time. Has proven his competitiveness off this mark
4. LE TROPIC – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust but is
as hard to rule out
5. BURWASH – Finished an improved 2nd last time in her first start over this distance. Should be
a factor here if confirming
6. SACAYA – Has looked rather ordinary to this point but does have scope to improve pitched into
a handicap now
7. CHENNAMMA – Finished 3rd and 2nd twice in her last three starts and looks ready to win now.
Sets the standard here
8. MRS RHAPSODY – Inconsistent last-start winner of a claiming race but is probably more
effective in that category. Outsider

Summary : After three close-up finishes, CHENNAMMA (7) is good value to break her duck here
and deny INKIOSTRO (1) who is also searching for a maiden success. BURWASH (5) sparked
improvement to finish 2nd last time and is capable of joining that fight for victory. KING OF
MEADOWS (3) appeals most of the remainder.

SELECTIONS
CHENNAMMA (7) – INKIOSTRO (1) – BURWASH (5) – KING OF MEADOWS (3)

R4 – PRIX CHARLES DE VEAUCE – 2400m (a1 1/2m) – TURF – Condition Race – Class 3 – Flat – EUR € 16.000

1. CHASING THE SUN – Runner-up in two of her last three outings after winning four starts.
Shoulders a big weight but is capable of winning
2. TREATWOOD – Finished 7th in a Quinté+ on 19 July over this course and distance, so should
be involved in the finish on that form
3. MAKANAO – Finished 5th behind TREATWOOD (2) and MISURINA (5) last month. Held on
form but has a place chance
4. HENNEZIS – Improved to finish 3rd over 2000m last time and could have more to offer going this
distance. Not taken lightly
5. MISURINA – Debut winner who ran well in defeat when finishing 4th last time. Not discounted
with Maxime Guyon aboard
6. FOXGLOVE – Unplaced and very well beaten on debut so is hard to make a case for, even with
improvement expected
7. PHIL THE FLUTER – Has looked distinctly ordinary on the flat and over hurdles, so his chances
here are limited even at this level. Ignore
8. SCRIABIN – Would’ve gained plenty from the experience of his pleasing debut 3rd. Open to
improvement, so warrants respect
9. BAHAYRA – Still without a win but is well in here under just 55,5kg. Has shown enough to be
competitive in a race of this nature
10. LIGHTNING LARA – Not disgraced in finishing 5th on her reappearance and should have more
to offer with improved fitness on her side

Summary : CHASING THE SUN (1), as the highest-rated runner in the race, has to concede weight
to all under 60,5kg but ought to defy the conditions by returning to winning ways on the form of his
recent 2nd. However, TREATWOOD (2) is not to underestimated and is capable of fighting for
victory having finished 7th in a competitive Quinté+ over this track and trip last month. BAHAYRA
(9) is an interesting entry at the bottom of the weights and has shown enough to get into the picture.
HENNEZIS (4) completes the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
CHASING THE SUN (1) – TREATWOOD (2) – BAHAYRA (9) – HENNEZIS (4)

R5 – PRIX DE SAINT-DIDIER LA FORET – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Divised Handicap – Class 4 – Flat – EUR € 16.000

1. BEACON TOWERS – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to
trust but is as hard to rule out
2. NOBLE AMBER – Did not go unnoticed when finishing 6th in the reference race and could
improve to get into the picture
3. SAMAGACE DU VIVIEN – Undeniably capable but appears to have gone off the boil this year
so will need to reaffirm. Dark horse
4. PRESS OFFICER – Has been struggling for some time now and is unlikely to trouble the judge
here. Can be ruled out
5. TOUTELUSIVE – Showed signs of a return to form last time and is now entrusted to Mickaël
Barzalona. Not taken lightly
6. AMIBOY – Undeniably capable but appears to have gone off the boil this year so will need to
reaffirm. Best watched for now
7. SEPTANTE – Unreliable and out of sorts of late but is quite capable of staking a claim in a race
of this nature. Respect
8. AFFAIRE CONCLUE – Nothing noteworthy to her name for a considerable period now and can
be easily ruled out. Others preferred
9. TWIN BOY – Finished an improved 2nd last time out and need only repeat his latest performance
to contest the finish
10. LILY APPLE – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust but
is as hard to rule out
11. AMERICAN DAISY – Veteran mare penalized 2,5kg for winning her last start but should remain
competitive. Warrants respect
12. WAYNE – Caught the eye with a fast finish in the reference event and should be competitive
here on that form
13. BLACK PANTHER – Finished a reassuring 2nd here last time and ought to fight for victory if
repeat that performance now
14. CHEEKY TRAOU LAND – Has nothing noteworthy to his name to warrant consideration here
and can be ruled out. Overlook
15. MY RIVER – Has been struggling for some time now and is unlikely to trouble the judge here.
Can be ruled out
16. EXPLORE THE SHORE – Has looked distinctly ordinary for some time now, so his chances are
limited even at this level. Ignore

Summary : Runner-up at this course on his first trip to Vichy, BLACK PANTHER (13) ought to
remain competitive and is likely to fight for victory. WAYNE (12) caught the eye behind the selection
that day and is capable of joining the fight. TWIN BOY (9) showed his form and well-being last time
(2nd) so is another to consider. AMERICAN DAISY (11), winner of the reference race, can defy a
penalty by staking a claim too.

SELECTIONS
BLACK PANTHER (13) – WAYNE (12) – TWIN BOY (9) – AMERICAN DAISY (11)

R6 – PRIX RENE & JACQUES BEDEL – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – Divised Handicap – Class 3 – Flat – EUR € 20.000

1. MAMA IMELDA – Won back-to-back outings before finishing 4th last time, proving her
competitiveness. Not taken lightly
2. MISS BELIEVE – Unreliable but seldom finishes far off the mark on a going day. Hard to trust
but is as hard to rule out
3. SASSICA – Finished 4th in the Quinté+ of 24 July and is currently enjoying a good period of
form. Can make her presence felt
4. KENZAL – Struggling to maintain his form/consistency and isn’t likely to trouble the judge here.
Others are preferred
5. MANAROLA – Capable but inconsistent, though remains capable of staking a claim in a race of
this nature. Can Has claims
6. LARNO – Remains competitive despite his old age, winning last time at the expense of MAX
VERST (7). Will be a factor
7. MAX VERST – Gets along wonderfully with Mickaël Barzalona and is likely to fight for victory
here. Should have a say
8. MYSTERY – Recently reassured by winning at this venue over 1850m and should remain
competitive. Not to be underestimated
9. GUERREIRA – Has been struggling for some time now and is unlikely to trouble the judge, so
can be ruled out. Overlook
10. ASPEN – Struggling to maintain his form/consistency and isn’t likely to trouble the judge here.
Others are preferred
11. WHEEL OF CHANCE – Last-start winner at this course and seems capable of repeating that
feat under bottom weight with Maxime Guyon aboard. One to beat

Summary : WHEEL OF CHANCE (11) caught the eye at Lyon-Parilly two starts back and confirmed
his disposition by winning at this course last time and seems capable of following up. Unlike last
time, this son of Charm Spirit will not be ridden by Mickaël Barzalona, who is in the saddle of MAX
VERST (7) instead, so the latter must be taken seriously. Winner of the reference race of July 22
on this same course, LARNO (6) should also have a say. MAMA IMELDA (1) is next best.

SELECTIONS
WHEEL OF CHANCE (11) – MAX VERST (7) – LARNO (6) – MAMA IMELDA (1)
