Game, set, match at Penang

Highly promising six year old, GAMESTONKS will be targeting a comeback victory when he steps out in the 1300m Dr Lim Ah Soo Trophy at Penang on Sunday.

With an impressive local record of four wins from six starts, GAMESTONKS appeared short of a run when finishing third to the locally unbeaten Proof Perfect in Selangor two weeks ago. The Charles Leck-trained galloper was first-up for six months and should strip fitter from that performance.

GAMESTONKS created an immediate impression last season, debuting in May 2022 and rising rapidly through the grades by posting four successive wins. The gelding scored at his only appearance at this track in July last year, scoring by five lengths in a Benchmark 89 contest and should bounce back to winning form this weekend.

San Andreas seeks further Group One glory

Selangor Tunku Gold Cup winner SAN ANDREAS looks a big chance of doubling up on his recent big-race success when he contests the 1400m G1 Penang Sprint Trophy this Sunday.

The odds were stacked against SAN ANDREAS in that memorable victory on May 28, where the gelding drew the outside gate (barrier 16). The six-year-old settled last until the 400m before producing a sharp burst of acceleration to score at big odds.

SAN ANDREAS lost no admirers with his fast-finishing third in KL over 1500m a fortnight ago, and with some of his more fancied opposition drawing deep, the AB Abdullah-trained performer should provide the value selection in Sunday’s feature.
