July 9 Perak Preview by Mark Lydeamore

PERAK RACE PREVIEW SUN 9 JULY

RACE 1

PURPLE RAIN LADY (1) and DAVINCI (2) ran the quinella here at the last meeting and are set for a rematch in the opener. DAVINCI (2) has not won for over 3 years but will meet PURPLE RAIN LADY (1) 6kg better from their recent encounter and will hoping for a result reversal. SECOND CHANCE (5) is overdue for a win and has a huge weight advantage on the minimum.

RACE 2

HELLO MONDAY (5) has only scored once, and that was over 1400m back in January and looks well placed at the weights. THE SWAN (2) broke the maiden tag three runs back at career start number 23 and wasn’t overly taxed in a barrier trial on Tuesday. The mare did fail in one attempt over the 1400m trip.  MYSTICAL STAR (4) likes to get back and charge home in its races and will be looking to break the drought since his last win back in April 2021. MY AIM (3) appeared plain last start but can improve.

RACE 3

SUNNY STAR (3) will have a chance to pick up another Class 5 contest, coming off a 1400m Penang victory last month. The has placed once in six starts at Ipoh but will prove hard to beat. PONTIANAK (1) has failed in five attempts at the 1400m but the mare looks to be improving and strikes a weak field. SING DARCI (7) can win on best form and receives a weight pull on the opposition with the 52kg. I’M SMART GREY (2) has been low on form recently but can improve also.

RACE 4

HEARTS OF GOLD (5) broke through with an impressive victory in a Class 5 contest over the mile at the last meeting and should be hard to hold out again despite the rise in grade. GALILEO’S APPROACH (1) is a proven Class 4 performer with two wins this season while DISCRETELY RED (3) will be better suited if a wet track prevails on Sunday. MULTIBLUE SHARK (2) has been freshened and is one for the trifectas if he strikes his best form.

Hearts Of Gold was an eye-catching last-start winner.

RACE 5

This is not a very strong maiden with a small field of five going around. The top selection with low confidence is PENANG GENERAL (3), the most experienced campaigner with 31 starts to its credit but has had many chances in the past. IPOH KAIGEH (4) has shown some ability at the Penang trials and debuts in a weak lineup. YOUARETHEBEST (1) resumes from the long break while COUNTRY LAW (2) has placed three times previously and is expected to improve on his recent moderate form.

RACE 6

A wide open affair to conclude the meeting. SUNTZU (7) hasn’t been far away in recent outings and can bounce back here with the 52kg less the claim. SECKILL (2) was well backed to win last start and duly saluted over 1100m and is a chance of going back to back as he rises 2.5kg in the weights. GOLDEN ROOSTER (3) trialled fairly in KL recently and has previously placed first up from a spell while CASTLE OCEAN (4) is the likely leader and will set a genuine tempo from barrier rise.

Suntzu is well placed on the light weight to bounce back for a win.
