July 8 Selangor Preview by Mark Lydeamore

SELANGOR RACE PREVIEW SAT 8 JULY

The 1300m Supreme B (Race 6) contest will headline another 12 race card from Selangor Turf Club on Saturday and features one of Malaysia’s most progressive performers this season in BERRY BLISS (1). Trainer Charles Leck has not trained a potential group performer since his multiple winning Group One star Volcanic General retired just over a year ago and BERRY BLISS (1) may have the capacity to fill that void. The 4yo heads the weights and will be set for a rematch with another promising galloper in WATCH THE THRONE (3), which was heavily backed to beat BERRY BLISS (1) at their last meeting on May 28. The 7yo flashed home to run 3rd on that occasion and will be freshened following four minor placings in a row. Other chances in the high grade event include DANCING RAIN (5) which looks suited dropping back to the 1300m while EYE GUY (4) is first up since December and looked sharp in his trial win here Tuesday week ago. CHINA CAPTAIN (6) appears well weighted after the apprentice claim is one to play in the trifectas.

Berry Bliss is in fine form, working through the grades nicely.

The 1300m Class 3 contest (Race 5) looks an even race where GOLDEN KING is back in action for the HY Cheng stable. GOLDEN KING (1) has not raced since finishing 4th, beaten 1.25L in the G1 Tunku Gold Cup on May 28. The 4yo was runner up in the 2000m Piala Emas back in December and he does perform best when his races are spaced apart. GOOD FIGHT (6) will be looking to atone for his short head defeat last start while PERFECT (2) has been a model of consistency for the Buffalo Stable and finished runner up in a strong Supreme A race last start. WISHUPONASTAR (5) should provide the speed influence and is well drawn to be prominent for a long way.

Not many horses win five on the bounce in Malaysia but SIMLONG BEACH (7) has a big chance of achieving the feat in the 1100m Class 4 event (Race 9). SIMLONG BEACH (7) has been dominating in Class 5 recently by leading throughout on each occasion and scoring by decisive margins. Jockey MM Firdaus, coming off a double last Sunday, will be out to maintain his 100% record from three rides aboard the mare. MASTER RYKER (3) is an interesting newcomer which has trialled well locally and is first up since February. A Listed winner in Australia as a 3yo, the now 7yo debuts for the Charles Leck stable and his encouraging Class 4 efforts in Singapore earlier this year keeps him under notice. JIMMY ZAC (10) continues to race well while FANTASTIC ECLIPSE (8) should provide some early pace also and is rarely far off the mark.
