Clyde Leck to ride at Kranji

Apprentice jockey Clyde Leck will make his Singapore debut on Sunday.

The Singapore Turf Club has approved jockey licenses for a total of seven riders, valid from July 1 to December 31, 2023. This includes two new licenses granted to Brazilian jockey Bruno Queiroz and Singaporean apprentice jockey Clyde Leck.

A 24-year-old Singaporean, Leck is the son of ex-Kranji trainer Charles Leck, who won three champion trainer titles in Macau from 1992 to 1994 and in Singapore in 1998, 1999 and 2003.

Leck began riding in Malaysia in 2021, finishing with only seven wins that year, but 2022 saw his meteoric rise as an apprentice jockey. He hit three six-timers and topped the log with 72 wins at the end of that season, handing him both the senior jockey and the apprentice jockey’s titles in Kuala Lumpur.

Currently licensed by the Selangor Turf Club, Leck sits fourth on 10 wins on the Selangor Turf Club’s apprentice jockeys’ log. He goes to scale at 52kgs.

22-year-old Queiroz has more than proven his abilities in the saddle with two Brazilian champion jockey titles in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons, and over 900 winners to-date. Among his 14 Group 1 wins thus far, the latest one came aboard Lah Lah Lah in the Grand Prix Zélia Gonzaga Peixoto de Castro in April this year.

Brazilian jockey Bruno Queiroz is Kranji bound.

Currently licensed by the Brazilian Jockey Club, Queiroz finished third on 110 wins on the 2022/2023 Brazilian jockeys’ premiership that recently concluded on 30 June. Queiroz will be at his first overseas stint in Singapore and he goes to scale at 51.5kgs.

The remaining five licenses are renewals for local jockeys Shafrizal Saleh and Amirul Ismadi, along with local apprentice jockeys Fahmi Rosman, Akmazani Mazuki, and Azhar Rasid.

In addition, the Club has granted a six-week visiting jockey’s license to Hong Kong jockey Dylan Mo, which will be valid from July 17 to August 28, 2023. Furthermore, Australian jockey Daniel Moor has received an extension to his license, allowing him to ride from July 2 to July 27, 2023. Moor has been participating in races in Singapore since April 29 and has achieved five victories thus far.

Here is the complete list of jockeys and apprentice jockeys who have been granted licenses by the Club for the duration of the 2023 season.
