Race Preview

R13 – QATAR COUPE DE FRANCE DES CHEVAUX ARABES – 1600m (a1m) – TURF – – Flat – EUR € 50.000

1. EJAABY – Beaten by a smart colt when finishing 2nd on debut and could improve to go one
better. Big runner
2. ALSHANFARA – Finished an encouraging 3rd on debut and would’ve gained plenty from that
experience. Has claims
3. SCHALIMAR D’IBOS – Has improved with each outing and opened his account at Toulouse last
time. Capable of following up
4. GHASSAN II – Has twice finished ahead of SCHALIMAR D’IBOS (3), so warrants respect after
2 months out. Chance
5. RAJIH – Was 5th on debut then improved with the benefit of that experience to finish 4th last
time. Dark horse
6. AJS ZEHBA – Runner-up on debut but was slightly disappointing when only 5th last time. Open
to improvement
7. KAVALA DE BOZOULS – Debut winner who failed to confirm that promise last time (9th), so
needs to reaffirm. Outsider

Summary : The experience of SCHALIMAR D’IBOS (3), who opened his account in style at
Toulouse, should stand him in good stead. ALSHANFARA (2), who finished 3rd that day, has a bit
to find on that form and, as such, a bigger threat is likely to come from EJAABY (1), after a promising
introduction, and last-start winner GHASSAN II (4) who ought to improve after a two-month
absence.

SELECTIONS
SCHALIMAR D’IBOS (3) – EJAABY (1) – GHASSAN II (4) – ALSHANFARA (2)

1. BOUTTEMONT – Disappointing at Saint-Cloud recently but is proven at this level and should
have a role to play here
2. TUDO BEM – Produced a career-best effort when finishing 4th in the Group II Prix du GrosChêne here. Keep safe
3. AMELLATA – Had her consistency rewarded with a last-start victory could have a say again.
Dangerous to dismiss

last start. Respect
5. TERTIUS – Has returned from a lengthy layoff to win consecutive outings this year. Could get
into the picture
6. PERDIKA – Has imposed herself at this level in her own age group but can thwart her elders too.
One to beat
7. PUREST TIME – Rewarded for his consistency with a last-start victory and is quite capable of
getting into the picture
8. ZUDU SPIRIT – Unreliable sort but is not incapable of making her presence felt in a race of this
nature. Dark horse

Summary : British filly PERDIKA (6) is undefeated in two starts at Chantilly and is capable of
preserving that unbeaten track record. BOUTTEMONT (1) and BERNEUIL (4) are better than their
recent efforts suggest and remain capable of serving it up to the selection if reproducing their best
form. TUDO BEM (2) completes the shortlist.

SELECTIONS
PERDIKA (6) – BOUTTEMONT (1) – BERNEUIL (4) – TUDO BEM (2)

start in a claiming race

further progress

competitive again

8. MA MOME – Won her only start in a claiming race at Marseille-Borély and should have a role to
play again here
9. BUCKLE UP BABY – Undeniably capable but has been off the boil this year and needs to
reaffirm. Others are preferred

Summary : BLUE RIBBON (1) did not go unnoticed on debut at this track and is taken to open her
account by making a winning return to this course in a claiming race. Christophe Escuder makes
the trip with MA MOME (8), who has never disappointed over this distance, and his charge ought
to be competitive here. Mathieu Boutin is well armed too, with BOTTOMS UP (5) and BAWE
ISLAND (7) who have the advantage of having already shone at this level.

SELECTIONS
BLUE RIBBON (1) – MA MOME (8) – BOTTOMS UP (5) – BAWE ISLAND (7)

to dismiss

out. Overlook

be competitive

class. Keep safe
7. MARTINGANA – Inconsistent filly but is quite capable of staking a claim in a race of this nature.
Has a place chance
8. BALSAMAND – Runner-up in his last two starts and has solid form references at this track.
Should have a role to play
9. CITY OF HOPE – Undeniably capable but has been out of sorts since winning three starts back.
Must bounce back
10. MUON – Well-beaten 9th on debut and will need to improve a great deal with that experience
to have a say
11. ASHWARI – Has looked rather ordinary for some time now, so her chances are limited even at
this level
12. SCALA REALE – Has nothing noteworthy to her name to warrant consideration here and can
be ruled out. Overlook
13. TOURGEVILLE – Disappointing 8th last time after finishing 5th in consecutive prior outings.
Needs to reaffirm
14. STAM WARS – Has been struggling for some time now and is unlikely to trouble the judge.
Others are preferred
15. BLUE HOUR – Has shown signs of improvement this year and could get a look in here if
confirming. Place chance

Summary : BLACK PAWS (1) is hard to oppose after consecutive recent wins and is well placed
to complete his hat-trick here in this claiming race. EUREKA (6) placed 3rd at Saint-Cloud in her
only appearance at this level and is likely to prove best of the rest. BALSAMAND (8) wouldn’t be
winning out of turn after finishing 2nd in consecutive recent outings, so ought to make his presence
felt too, with HAARICIA (5) appealing most of the remainder.

SELECTIONS
BLACK PAWS (1) – EUREKA (6) – BALSAMAND (8) – HAARICIA (5)
